Tekking is that one friend we all wish we had. I could listen to this man read the dictionary and still not be bored, every word would have a tekking tangent
Not to mention she knows her entire persona is a complete lie. Nyon knows that they were slaves, that they are branded, that they have DF powers, that they are scarred and scared, etc. Bitch knows too much
Gloriosa was a fun character, and seen her as a rock member was unexpected. I think she got over her love sickness from Whitebread since she was clashing with stussy
"Love is a hurricane" is such a great quote, and in my opinion a very nice addition by Oda to his worldbuilding. Of course these fictional places would develop their own idioms.
Don't forget Tekking, the residents of Amazon Lily are taught Haki from the time they can draw back a bow, so Gloriosa probably has that type of power that sets her apart from your average Grand Line pirate
If I remember correctly the Empress of Amazon Lily is the person considered the strongest warrior in the country. So it isn't a blood lineage but based on capabilities. Also, I think the reason Gloriosa was an outcast wasn't because she left her post as Empress but because it seems like she left partway through her rule without having the next Empress lined up. I.e. she joined the Rocks pirates and left the Kuja pirates without a leader. But that's just my guess.
There's an old theory about Portgas D. Rouge potentially being the former empress. Her name means "red" in French, so it breaks the flower naming scheme, but she was always shown with a red flower on her head. She died for love - after an extremely long and painful pregnancy to save her child's life.
Tsuru is the Grandmother of Kujaku. O-Tsuru is Kin'emon's wife. Also, Big Mom, but I guess one can argue she's probably dead. But remember "no body, no death".
My personal headcanon is that the previous empress of Amazon Lily is Luffys mom, and she died of her love sickness to Dragon. There's not a lot to base it on but Luffy has such a big connection to Amazon Lily more than most other islands, and it would make sense if Kuma sent him there because he knew this.
While this idea has a lot of holes (such as I don’t know really know the respective ages) if the previous empress isn’t Boa’s mom, maybe she’s Luffy’s? The premise is basically that she had some kind of fling/casual relationship with Dragon that ended up with Luffy being born, and when he was born as a boy she was forced to choose between being a mother or remaining the empress. And this is the reason she died. Since she chose someone on Dragon’s side to raise him she ended up contracting love sickness, as she couldn’t see her child. Because I don’t think anyone specified that the love had to be romantic in nature. Again, I know there’s holes, but it would make things interesting.
Some corrections, firstly Hancock was 12 when she and her sisters were abducted and sold into slavery and secondly, after Hancock revealed her and her sisters' traumatic backstory to Luffy (and by extension us the audience) Granny Nyon (Gloriosa) lightly teases Hancock about how she opened up Luffy and showed some real emotion for the the first time in a while in that moment. Indicating that Gloriosa knew Hancock *before* the Boa sisters were abducted, meaning that the previous empress had already pardoned her and allowed her to return to Amazon Lily. Also, it should be noted that how the Love Sickness claims its victims is when they catch romantic feelings and attempt to suppress them and it's apparently the heartache that truly kills them. As for how the Kuja determine their next empress/captain, I always imagined it as something of a combination of the Mandalorians' trial by combat to determine the leader and the Amazons from DC's Wonder Woman Olympic-style games to select their ambassador. And as to whether or not Hancock has a life-size statue of Luffy in her bed chambers, considering how she reacted to that statue of her that those kids made probably not. Knowing Hancock, she'd say that nothing, not even the most precious and rare of materials could even come close to perfectly capturing his great likeness. And even if she did have one, the most I see her doing is basically what Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid was doing with the statue of Prince Eric.
I feel why boa treated gloriosa like crap even though she saved her and her sisters was because she was putting up a barrier about her time as slaves and the absolute horror they indured. They were claiming their powers were from the gorgon monster to hide their back tattoos, so i feel that all that ego and assholeish attitude was to keep people away from her so they never see her back
That and she doesn’t want to feel vulnerable ever again. One of if not the main reason why Hancock even fell as hard as she did for Luffy was that he didn’t “look down on her” for being a slave, i.e. he didn’t pity her, thus (intentionally or not) sparing Hancock her pride and dignity. Things that she holds dear after spending the last 13 years of her life (by the time we meet her in the Amazon Lily arc) struggling and fighting tooth and nail to regain, piece back together, and maintain after having to ensure the hell that was being a slave to those Celestial Dragon bastards.

Tekking, I have a theory after listening to this video: What if the reason that the Kuja both forbade men from visiting the island and why the Empresses get this exclusive disease known as “Love Sickness” is because of a past user of the Sick-Sick Fruit was a jolted lover of a Kuja Empress who came to the island and “cursed” the Kuja with a genetic disease that would kill them if they ever experienced love?
I definitely like this because we've seen that the sick sick fruit is more of a quirky thing than real world diseases so it definitely falls into the category of things Oda would do
12:30 So I went through the wiki the only characters I could find who are both a mother(?) and alive(?) in the current story are Tsuru, Russian aka. senior pinks wife (is comatose but still tecnically alive I think), Big Mom (if she didn't die by vulcano) and Buckingham Stussy (if you believe her about Weevil being Whitebeards son)
@@mikoajpietrych6168 No confirmation either way. Last we heard she was dropped into a lava bath, so knowing Oda I would give her about a 70% chance of still being alive.

Shaky was definitely the captain of the Kuja during god valley being the very next empress after gloriosa. The empress was stated in a sbs or in a chapter (i don't remember well) that was the Strongest pirate in the Kuja crew.
I always assumed that Shakky was simply referring to when she was the Empress and meant Garp chasing after the Kuja Pirates. Since as far as we know, they never had amnesty until Boa became a Warlord, which would imply that the previous gens of Kuja had to fight the WG and Marines off and couldn't just do as they pleased. I didn't think Granny Nyon would be part of the Rocks Pirates, but I personally didn't think Shakky was.

Matt, I just need to let you know that right before you commented on that I had already written how it feels weird not having those extra bits at the end about random animal facts.
The line where Gloriosa talks about how in the seas to the east they say love is like a hurricane, makes me think that one of the empresses had a connected to the east. And the empress before Boa being the one we know the least about, makes her the most likely candidate to be connected to the east. And then the thought occurred to me, if she had something in the east that she couldn’t get to or couldn’t bring home with her it could trigger the love sickness and be the reason she died from it. So my next thought was what if she had a son, so she couldn’t raise him on Amazon Lilly. and because she couldn’t be with him it broke her heart and that’s ultimately what caused the love sickness that killed her. And then I realized dragon is about the same age so it is possible she met dragon they had a luffy, and because Luffy wasn’t born a girl he couldn’t be raised by her. We don’t know when the other Empress died, but we know boa was 18 when she took over so luffy would have been about 6 years old. So say she died after 5 years of being lovesick. It would also explain why at about four or five Garp took a luffy to Dadan. If she had just died and dragon decided to stop keeping a distant eye on luffy as a result then Garp probably stepped in to make sure Luffy had somebody watching him. And then that would also add an extra level as to why kuma sent luffy there. Kuma being dragons friend he would probably have known of luffy’s mother and how her death affected dragon. it would kind of make the ark seem more like the introduction to luffys mother’s home island.
I still like to think that love sickness happens when the empress falls in love with a guy then it gets cured if they leave Amazon Lily to either be with the guy or pursue the guy, doesnt necessarily need to get together since Boa's cured but isn't Luffy's wife or lover or girlfriend or anything, Shakky might've pursued Rayleigh and Gloriosa her guy, but the one before Boa chose to stay and died. Also correct me if I'm wrong but I think Gloriosa said that Shakky died of love sickness too, the line was " the empress before you (Boa) died of this sickness, so did the empress before her, I too was afflicted with this illness but survived it by fleeing the island " And since Shakky is alive and well, the empress before Boa might be alive and well as well, somewhere out there. Also this love sickness bit might just be a joke from Oda and Gloriosa as Hancock could've just been in love and the pain of parting with Luffy the day after is was rendered her "sick", kind of like the pain after breaking up or being rejected by your crush ( I wouldn't know as I've never been in a relationship that wasn't fake ) then Gloriosa made the "pursuing the person you love to cure yourself" bit up just to get Boa to leave with Luffy on the marine ship for Marineford to avoid problems with the shichibukai status.

That’s it. Shipping Granny Nyon with Rocks. Granny Nyon is Blackbeard’s grandma. For sure definitely

Hey Tekking moms that are alive in the present storyline would include : Makino, Chiffon, Miss Monday . Those are what I got but the counterargument would be that they all became mom during the course of the present storyline, the time skip specifically if I'm not wrong.
