Thank you, Jonathan, for taking the time to create and post this video. I'm in the process of choosing my next car and the Audi A4 Avant petrol is favourite but expensive. This has helped me a lot. Off to watch your other vids on the car now. 😀
Very nice and kindly commented review :) congratulation for your new audi, Im also waiting for my new audi in S.Korea. anyway, thanks again for your review!
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the informative reviews you have taken the time to put together. I am just about to take ownership of my Audi A4 Avant and your videos were really helpful in helping me to choose from the myriad of options from Audi. Best wishes.
Really enjoyed your review I wish there was more honest user reviews around. I test drove a Audi A4 Avant 2.0tdi Sport 190 HP S-tronic priced around 34,295.00 GBP with no extras added and was surprised to find out the electric folding mirrors were extra. I know it was only a couple of hundred pounds extra but you would think a car priced around 35k would have this as standard.
I too had poor poor service from the audi dealer i went to when i got my A1 a few years ago (and every time since when it's been serviced etc)!!! I am going to a different one tomorrow for my next service so hope that they are better!
Ive got the B7 A4 model from 2008 1.9 TDI. I tunned the engine's software and it's now more lively (from 116 to around 150 hp). I was looking on the newer model and it's really expensive if you get it with lots of options. The new 190 hp diesel engine sounds good, the better handle and better comfort are also nice. Atm i dont see a lot of value in upgrading my car to a new model so I'll stick to my A4 maybe one more year or so
Did you install the LED back lights yet? I ordered them yesterday for 390€ brand new from Hella, only need the adapter cable set and then programm the car so it knows it has led backlight and indicator. This will be around 550€. 640€ cheaper than the LED lights and I really like the looks of the xenon headlight.
Although it's a bit "dry" but I think you did a very nice job. Perhaps edit it with voice over while displaying video, rather than just sit there and talk? Please don't this the wrong way, just something for improvement. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the review. Any thoughts about the steering experience? I find the new a4 to light and sensitive in the steering. That makes it hard hold a line in higher speeds. Especially in combination with the car being very sensitive to wind from the side. Recognize any of this? / Johan
I've had no problems like that, no - perhaps you're more sensitive to that than I am. I have the steering on the Dynamic setting, which is slightly firmer than Comfort. The steering is certainly not heavy but I don't find it a problem for driving - quite the reverse, as it's a very easy car to drive.
Personally I liked your video and as I'm looking to buy a new A4 avant it was helpful - thanks. I'm looking to go for the higher powered A4 TFSi S-Line because I want Quattro - I have an older styled A4 3.0TDi Quattro. Like you I think the future of diesel might be a bit more troubled. Despite bigger CO2 figures the new petrol engines seem cleaner to me. Just a small critic I thought your colour and wheel choice spoiled the look - that is of course my view only. Any options you regret having chosen and any you wished you had chosen? Regards and happy/safe driving.
Thanks for your comment. I've thought about the options and I am pretty happy with what I took. The automatic parking is a bit of a waste for me, although it has actually been useful maybe twice for tight spots. The boot space management kit has not yet turned out to be useful, even for the reason for which I bought it, but maybe it will in future. There were a few other interesting options that I didn't take, but they all add to the cost and you have to stop somewhere. I've had the car for almost seven months now and I'm still very happy with it - no regrets! I hope you will enjoy your A4 when you get it.
Very nice and well done, very clear and unbiased opinion. Just missed the price. As far as I am concerned, prices for that all-new Audi A4 are quite high. We see very high class equipment and high-technology, however, if i am not wrong, that car should cost you about 60 grand, correct me if I am wrong. Honestly, I think that for that price, there should NOT be ANY downside at all, like the new LED redesigned day-lights and dynamic turn signals. I just want to ask you something, in all honesty, do you really think that your car is worth the price? Thank you very much.
Hi Pedro, thanks for your comment. After discounts, the price was around €45,000, but you could easily pay €60k for an A4 if you go for a higher spec (add in quattro, bigger engine, sunroof, fancy headlights and a couple more of the assistance options and I think you'll be nearly there). Anyway, €45k is already a lot of money; fortunately, the net cost from my pocket is a lot lower since I bought the car through my company. Still, I intend to keep it for a long time in order to justify the expense. Is it worth the price? I can answer that in two ways. Firstly, in relation to the competition, it's very close to the prices of the other cars that were on my shortlist. You can buy a similarly specced car from cheaper brands for less money (e.g. a Skoda), and they are fine cars too, but I wanted the luxury feel that I didn't get from the cheaper brands (I looked at almost every brand on the market!). So it's competitively (not cheaply) priced, and in that sense it's worth the price. Secondly, is it worth the price to me? Well, I wouldn't have paid that price from my own pocket, but buying through a company greatly reduces the effective price because it's a pre-tax expense. I am still very happy with the car and have no regrets; we'll see how it holds up in the long term, but so far I'd have to say yes, it's worth it.
Thank you very much for your prompt replay. I see your point and try to understand. Just one more thing, is €45k the recommended retail price? I mean, if I take into account taxes and so on, so that I would not buy that car as a company but as a common citizen, will €45k be the prices yet? I hope you understand my question. Thank you very much.
All right, I fully understand. Anyway, beautiful car, always loved Audi cars. Really like the light grey alcantara-leather interior. The virtual cockpit looks brilliant, overall, a very very sexy and appealing car. My only concern is the value that you get out of the price, hopefully I will be able to experiment it in the future if everything goes well and I get on of these. Enjoy it!
Hello Jonathan. Very nice video! :) Im already looking forward to the delivery of my Audi a4, with the same engine as yours, which will be at the end of april. I would like to ask you, what is your average fuel consumption, after you have driven these 2500 kilometers?
+Daniel_ Hi, thanks for your comments and congratulations on your forthcoming Audi! You're right, I meant to say something about the consumption in the video but forgot. So far, my average has been 8.3 litres / 100km or 34.4 miles per gallon (UK). That's not quite as good as I was hoping but it's not bad, and it's a bit better than my previous car (which was smaller and had a smaller engine). Obviously the less fuel you use, the better, but that's OK for me.
+Jonathan Oakey thanks for your answer! And is your drive style dynamic? Or have you been driving mostly in the city? Because in the Audi papers it is written 5.4 litres per km and 8.3 is a little bit too much more.
Daniel_ The first 2000km was mostly motorway, on the way to and from Italy. After that, it's mostly short journeys around town. I'm not a slow driver but I haven't been hammering it. In any case, you'll never get the same fuel economy as the official figures, whatever car you get.
Benjamin Dubois nice mate, have fun with it. My brother has this car aswell and he has the upgraded headlights and the dynamic turnsignals and those look friggin amazing! :) good luck man!
Thanks for your comment. I looked at the Passat - I have had one in the past, and they are very comfortable and practical cars. However, the price difference was not that great, and I wanted the extra feeling of luxury that you don't get in a Passat.I'm not sure if my comment on the price is still valid, though, because I looked around my local Audi showroom last week while my car was being serviced, and the prices appear to have increased significantly. I don't know if this has happened with all of the major brands - perhaps it's a consequence of Dieselgate.
Thank you, Jonathan, for taking the time to create and post this video. I'm in the process of choosing my next car and the Audi A4 Avant petrol is favourite but expensive. This has helped me a lot. Off to watch your other vids on the car now. 😀

I came from the A4 Avant car buyer's video. . Excellent video!
Thanks for your kind and good review. It's very helpful!

Good review! Really nice when normal user does it so you can actually get good view of a car.

Hi Jonathan, thank you for the video! Does your version of the MMI system support Android Auto?
Hi, no, I don't think it does. To be honest, I've never seen how a car with that works so I'm not 100% sure, but...98%!
Ive got the B7 A4 model from 2008 1.9 TDI. I tunned the engine's software and it's now more lively (from 116 to around 150 hp). Yes, they are expensive cars. My intention is to keep mine for something like eight years too.
Great review man, thanks!
It did confuse me when you had the British accent and left hand drive!
outstanding mate, cant wait to see more. :)
cheers
Thats really a wonderful review thanks a lot !
Many thanks for the unbiased video; quite informative and helpful.

The full list price was just over 50k but then you get discounts. They always have a margin so you can often get the price down a little more.

Hi Jonathan, which option did you take to get the net between the trunk and the back seats?
Thanks
Hi, I didn't take an extra option, I think it comes as standard in the Avant. I'd suggest you check that point with your Audi dealer.
thats not an option mate, its standard, at least here in belgium it is
+Foer Hoen hi, I ordered my A4 2 weeks ago and the sales confirmed me your answer hehe thanks delivery end of October hehe
Benjamin Dubois nice mate, have fun with it. My brother has this car aswell and he has the upgraded headlights and the dynamic turnsignals and those look friggin amazing! :) good luck man!
Super review! Why not Passat?

Jonathan Oakey BTW. I feel the same. Want luxury but in doubt of the a4 too small and too light compared to used A6 Avant
Excellent video! If you like cars, check out my latest vid on the Audi RS6 Performance! :)
