Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.

I was a surgical specialty vet tech for many years. Talk to your vet about possibly using a soft muzzle (usually a size larger so he can still pant & drink) to add a bit of support, or basket muzzle to help prevent chewing. If you start with these at night & when he's sleepy he should adapt quickly. My pup was on the block for euthanasia at 7 weeks old--was born with a leg deformity. A rescue group fostered her & paid for her surgery. She is now 13 years old & has been a tripod for the last year, but can still go on long walks with the aide of a cart...dogs are very resilient. Best wishes for Burley & a full recovery. He will look very cute with a pirate eye patch!

Was thinking the same thing, some sort of soft support would give that bone a much better chance of healing.
I hope that you will have faith that Burley will be fine. It is a miracle that he survived. I had a golden that got hit by a car and lost the use of his front paw...he lived and just learned to adapt. He and Burley survived for a reason. The power of love is really mind blowing.

I have had some sleepless nights with my little cat when I didn't know if she would wake up in the morning, too. I hope this helps a bit with the cost of care.

Oh my gosh, it's crazy to see Burley so injured. Precious, baby boy. I've been watching him grow since you got him as a pup, and my heart goes out to you! My precious dog (an English cream golden retriever) was also recently hit by a pick up truck. I'll never forget the sound of his yelp. He suffered a broken leg and major road rash. These dogs are not just part of the farm, they're part of the family, and my heart truly weeps for you. I know your dog mamma heart is really suffering through this. Ariel, this story shook me up and breaks my heart. It was so hard to watch. And Burley laid down on his right side at the end of the vid directly on the earth. I just pray, no pain for Burley, no pain, Lord, please bless and heal him and take him close to Your heart. God knows when a sparrow falls, I believe He knows and is with Burley. Oh, Ariel, I’m so incredibly sorry Burley, you and Clay are going through this. We all love Burley, too, and my heart aches for you. I am sending prayers for his complete recovery. It is sad that he lost an eye, but I once had a little dog that had to have an eye removed, and she did just fine. I’m praying Burley does, too. I love Burley. I have never seen a dog quite like him. He is amazing. I cried after watching this and once I woke up during night I tried not to, but kept coming back to Burley. My prayers are with you and this precious companion. I pray for his total, miraculous healing.

Just wanted to add, Ariel i know its harder on you keeping Burley from chewing, worrying he may get bored but do whatever it takes, crating when you cant watch him. Going on walks around your property together will get him out enough. 12 weeks is worth for his recovery. When my dog had a severe back injury, I had to crate him for months. He's your baby and being fiercely protective is being a mom.

So sorry for what has happened to Burley. Will be keeping you all in prayer. I share a home with my son’s family. Their dog,a 3yr old Frenchie, hurt his back. He had a spinal surgery on April 1st. They were told he might walk again; nothing guaranteed. He could feel deep pain when the therapist saw him 2wks. ago, so we are hopeful he can regain the use of his back legs. I’ll be praying for Burley just like I am for our little guy. 🙏🏼🌈💕👍🏻

Oh my... so sorry to hear of Burley's accident. It's a heart stopper for sure when our furbabies are injured or sick. Our little maltipoo had an eye removed about 7 years ago, and I don't think she even noticed it gone. We keep her hair a little longer over that missing eye, so it's not noticeable. Praying that Burley's mouth heals with no side affects, and that he'll be back to himself soon. 🙏🏼

Remembering back when you got him after trying so hard to make things work with your other dog. Faithfully watching him grow up with you. Not able to comment to anyone much these days as I now have a bad health diagnosis but I had to today seeing what happened to Burley. I know how close you two are and what a beautiful life you've made for him.
Want you to know I pray for the miracle of life continue for him to have those ten more years!

As a dog lover and dog foster mom for Shetland Sheepdogs.. I know that no matter how careful you are...things happen... and sometimes it's only a matter of luck that some of us just get the scare of our lives while others suffer the heartbreak.
Please don't blame yourself. You are only human... you are doing your best.... past experience indicated that Burley was safe. It could have happened to any of us. You work hard and you have given Burley a wonderful home. He is enjoying an ideal life as a working dog with you and God willing he will continue to make us all laugh in the future.

Oh my gosh Ariel, I just can't believe this happened to your beautiful Burley. 😢 I remember way back when you were a little reluctant to get another dog, and awhile later you informed us about Burley. I have enjoyed seeing him so much in all your videos. He is such an amazing dog, and I am so amazed at how well you trained him. He truly is a treasure. I will pray for fast, complete healing of his jaw and mouth, etc., and that he will be back to the old Burley once again. As for the enucleation of his eye, that won't be an issue for Burley as long as he keeps normal vision in the other eye. He will adjust in no time and be back to the happy, playful dog that he is. Fortunately, dogs don't worry about their appearance. I feel so bad for you, and the worries you're having to go through. Big hugs for you hun! And having lost my first ES male young (age 2) to a car that came up my own driveway too quickly, I am very saddened by what happened to Burley. But also thankful with you that he survived it and praying with you that he overcomes this broken jaw challenge.
I'm hoping that the soft muzzle suggested by the specialist vet in this thread will be the trick that helps get him past that dangerous time period.

If you haven’t heard about her already, Juliette de Barclaii Levy is a world famous herbalist and veterinarian (she passed in 2009) who had written books about herbal care of animals. She was also a breeder of Afghan hounds. I lent my book of hers to someone otherwise I’d share it with you. Prayers for Burley❤❤❤
I can't even imagine how much you have been going through as Hurley goes through this himself. But being a cat parent and feral carer, I have seen animals recover from unthinkable injury and thrive. I hold out hope for you and him to work through this. And, yes, cry as much as you need.
Prayers for Burley and you and your family (human, furred and feathered). He's young so there's every reason to hope that he will heal to the point of being able to regain some of things he was able to do and enjoyed doing.

I am so very sorry to hear about Burley. This must have been a tremendously hard video for you to make. You take such wonderful care of all our your animals (and chickens, ducks, etc...) So Burley has the best possible care and am sure he is going to recover quickly and successfully.
