How do you get that shield COA style for dynasty and your realm?
My favorite move, because running an empire is too hard for me personally, is building an empire with one strong Kingdom and then purposely allowing a family member to depose me and take over as emperor and then I just play a loyal vassal while running my own kingdom
Better even to lose that empire to someone outside your family, as then you don't just get the 2 renown for them being emperor, but the X renown for every vassal of your dynasty he has. Aswell as not losing dynasty head to him.
Learn how to distribute titles in a way that if rebellion occurs you lock up most of the nation/micro distribute your vassals vassals to ensure they have too much strife to ever revolt against you.
I also find it more fun as you never really know what your liege might do, adds a whole new layer to the fun!
Ill never understand why people are afraid of being emperor.

Trying to keep your liege's dynasty in power and keeping the kingdom cohesive is such an under appreciated personal goal in ck3. Their should be an achievement for being a loyal vassal - like support and win three liege wars at once or something.
You should play Tall Sardinia in 867 as a Papal Vassal, and grand him as many Theocratic Vassals you can... make His Holyness the Pope the Emperor of the Holier Roman Empire!
I'm waiting for the theocracy DLC, what's the point if you can't vote in your shitty nephews for free money and claims like the lords of old did.

Me being emperor is usually by mistake.
For example:
Inherit a nice duchy.
Some guy wants to Mary my 40 year old mom.
Sure why not.
2 generations later I'm the basilious of the Byzantine empire.
Everything proceeds to catch on fire.
I need some of that luck! The people I marry off end up dead in a siege lmao
Some tips. To see how large a realm is you only have to put your mouse in the shield of the person or in the map. To avoid your liege granting you vassals grant the duchy of the granted vassal to him, because your liege tried granting you those vassals because you were the rightful liege of them.

Try and from something with even crazier requirements, like get your Liege to become chakravarti or the Mongol emperor or hold the North Sea empire. You’d have to really closely manage someone else’s inheritance.

I have tried so many times as a Greek duke to make my leige the Emperor of a reunified Rome, but inevitably get screwed over within 5 months.
You want something really challenging? As a vassal, just try to keep a Mongol successor state alive for a century. I tried with the Ilkhanate after I got conquered by Genghis Khan. I REALLY TRIED! And I failed after seven decades. It is hard to make these survive.

Tip if you want to give your liege counties: Grant the county to an old ass dude (60+ usually does the trick) without children and grant him independence. This will make him your liege's vassal instead of yours and when he dies your liege will inherit the land. This way you could "grant" your liege the entirety of wales like you wanted :)
(Edit: just tested it in wales just to confirm it for myself and it does work. Also should try to make sure that the dude you grant it to is not educated in intrigue or learning since these have fertility perks, naturally lustful and fecund are risky aswell. But for the most part 60+ mf's are pretty infertile)

So the reason he didn't create any kingdom titles is because the game mechanics make it so that if you have a title equal to or greater than him (like the kingdom of Ireland while hes also JUST a king and not emperor) you will become independent, so he cant give you a kingdom title without becoming a emperor first or else you would be independent (this is why normandy flips to England every time William conquers it) he also may have didn't create it because he would have had to hold it himself directly because of the game mechanics i just explained. Keeping it himself would cause a lot of negative modifiers and there's a high chance of loosing the title due to inheritance and whoever inherited that title would automatically become independent also unless it was the same person who inherited the main title he originally had as well.(for example if he has 2 sons, 1 would get whales and the other gets Ireland, unless he had only 1 son to inherit both titles or had the proper succession law to prevent loss or splitting of titles) . You don't have to give away kingdom titles FIRST in order to form an empire. Form it first, then give titles. I know this game mechanic is true because it happened to me in several games and i couldn't figure out why for the longest time until finally i did. Thought it was a good idea to share. I know almost everything about paradox game mechanics. Especially ck3.
I really enjoyed watching this because your commentary is amusing and the speed of your actions accurately reflects the spirit of the medieval age: "Act now because I might be dead tomorrow." Most medieval rulers were young, male and impetuous.

One thing I learned for counting counties is if you hover over a coat of arms the game can give you the total of any character. I believe you can hover over your liege or fellow vassals as well

If you have land that you want to give to your liege, you can grant it to someone and then grant that vassal to your liege (assuming you don’t hold the duchy title of that land).

By far, my favourite games have been when I've played loyal vassals. I played a Finland game where our liege was utterly incompetent and we were being attacked by 3 or 4 people at once because of it. I had to deal with those forces personally every single time, either by joining the war or intercepting as a neutral force. Eventually I was elected as King against my will.
I’d love to see you continue this or do the same thing for a different empire, it’s like your liege was your puppet XD

TIP: If you hover mouse over the rulers flag (be they liege or other) it will pop-up how big their realm size is.
I usually play as a vassal and try to expand my lieges realm to an empire, so knowing this can be extremely helpful when calculating how much more you need to 'obtain' for them! Don't forget to subtract any land them have outside of De Jure borders though (forming Germania and HRE is a pain for this).
Your liege probably didn't want to declare war on Deheubarth because he's craven.
You should have way more subscribers. Your content is top notch. Though, I don't know is CK3 enough "mainstream" or do you upload videos often enough.

I find it’s fun to play as Sardinia and , as a vassal to the pope, form a true Holy Roman Empire.
I spent 200 years from 867 trying to make one of the karling become Emperor so I could form Switzerland but for some reason this is the only time they refused to.
Before legacy of Persia it was extremely painful to make AI form the HRE, now it's easier since they modified the decision and make the ai more active to do so

Of course there is a way to grant the land in wales to your liege, you make vassals and then grant them to him
Looks like you were owning the duchy title that's why he is keep on trying to give that vassal

This was really refreshing to see now reclaim Rome as a Byzantine vassal
Definitely should have been playing tall and giving your liege vassals from the get go, it would have made him stronger faster. A perfect example is when you conquered Munster. Give your liege the Munster vassal, then give your liege the Munster duchy title which the liege gives to the Munster vassal so that you not only give your liege a vassal but one who likes him.
Also that’s why your liege kept trying to give you vassals, you held the dejure duchies which you should have given him. Also giving a vassal a dukedom while a Duke does not masked them independent of your liege just you, like a realm splitting upon inheritance.
Good plan! I think I’ll give this another go with some more difficult plan, but this time more focused in making my liege the powerful one more so than me!
You should do a kushite (kemetic) reconquest of Egypt as Egyptian culture! Or Anglo Saxon reconquest after William takes over!

I love sending my kids to the varangian guard as a test to see if they're worthy, same with giving them land after they get the first or second courtier trait thingy. (valued intrigue courtier or the likes)
Idk if anyone told you this, so sorry if you know by now, but while you are a vassal, granting your vassals independence gives them to your liege. Also ur liege kept spamming you because you were holding the dutchy titles for the vassals he tried giving you! Im a sucker for playing as a vassal, fun to see someone else actually do it too!
Try and do this with the Papacy. 😂

Shwmae bud, I'm playing as Gwynedd and was about to form the kingdom of Wales, then my king died and suddenly my realm broke up.
I'm a noob at the game and I know us Welsh used to fight ourselves a lot but how do I stop my family members from declaring independence when my current character dies?
Easiest way is to disinherit your other children before you die, so it forces all your land to go to 1 person
Could also add succession laws to any Dutchy titles and vote for your primary heir in each election to keep your land together.
But if they do declare war just marry quickly for a powerful ally and siege the war leaders capital, this often gets you +30 war score so you can white peace!

Ur liege was craven. How well this playstyle works out and how often they go to war or create titles depends heavily on your liege's personality. Not to mention Gold and Prestige. This playstyle is theoretically possible but its not easy and I imagine takes patience
