I can confirm.... I had one of those older color coded kits and they all split open. I mailed and got a brand new kind in 4 days !! Really great service guys.

I bought part of a pack from someone who over ordered. I`ve put together a top tube pannier with 40 cells.I have zero experience. Lot`s of instructions and tips on youtube. It`s very adaptable even when you can`t fit the cells in a single block. I paralleled them to my original pack and doubled the range. Worked first time.

I built a starter battery for my lawn mower with the original version. Stacking 3 bus bars was quite difficult for me, so I'm particularly glad to see that this has been addressed. The battery is still working perfectly after a season of mowing. :)

Thank u! I haven’t built a battery yet. But one definite advantage is that u can reuse or reconfigure. With spot welding, it would b hard to take it apart.

Thanks for the update. Sounds to me like you have made huge progress coming down the learning curve on this very innovative approach to assembling 18650 packs. I will be ordering a V2 kit just as soon as they are available on your VruzendUSA site. Very exciting advances in your initial offering and very quickly developed and tested. Thanks for all the hard work !

Great update; I'm really happy to hear about the progress of the v2 caps. The limitations on current with the v1 caps was a deal breaker for me, but now a modular DIY kit seems viable for my ebike projects. I'm also very impressed by you production timeline and how quickly you're able to iterate on your design and implement improvements. Kudos!!

    Wow
Gonna have to get me some of these things.
So far, I have been trying to join the cells together using soldering. Failed miserably, solder really does not like to take to 18650s. Resorted to buying hordes of cheap 'DIY power bank' kits from China, sawing off the electronics, and just using them for the spring loaded 18650 carriages, and soldering *them* together.

the cool thing about the old caps is if you get frustrated, you can brute force the caps and they'll snap together if you can't slide the grooves.

To me, that's the only way to do business. Especially when you're competing with cheap stuff from sweat shops in third world countries, you have to not only have a better product, but better service too. I don't want to deal with a company that doesn't stand behind what they sell, so I always make sure my own products and businesses are held to the same standard.

Thanks for the reply on % of an 18650. Next question: I bought 200 harvested lg 2200mah that were advertised as lgds but received a mix of lgds, lgdas, lgcas. What kind of battery am I looking for in my ebike. I've started to look at data sheets but don't yet understand. If this was explained in your battery pack build guide, sorry, but I haven't won a book yet! When I get steady work I'll buy one.

Great improvements to v1.5...definitely needed. However, none of those improvements address the single biggest issue with v1: the size of the opening is too small. I'd say every fifth battery of mine had the shrink wrap split open because it took so much effort to jam the cap on due to the extremely tight fit. Increasing the patency would allow easier assembly of packs. You said it yourself: the actual diameter of different brands of batteries varies. The solution isn't to add a thicker wall; it's to widen the opening.

    • @EbikeSchool
      @EbikeSchool  6 лет назад

Good point. I didn't explicitly mention it, but part of the reason of switching polymers was to address this. It wasn't that the hole was too small, it was that the polymer was too rigid. This new polymer has a bit more stretch to it so now the cells slide in much easier as the plastic is smoother and stretchier. That means that the cells are held better and don't need to be forced in as hard.

It's awesome that you are putting out so much good information and continuously improving your product. Have you used temperature sensors on any of your battery packs? Given the new caps will carry more current and one of your recent videos about battery temperature, I'm wondering what you recommend for monitoring battery temps.
I built a battery for my trolling motor, I used Samsung INR18650-15L which are rated for 18A (at 25℃). I'm sure temperature shouldn't be an issue, but wondering about options.

How long do you think we will have to wait for 20700 or 21700 batteries to become the norm for ebikes. I will be building my own battery but preferably with larger capacity cells
A few years ago I built my first ebikes 6months later a better more stable motor was released of course I had to upgrade
Now my gut tells me 18650 cells will be a thing of the past soon I don't want a repeat my motor dilemma
