    Just got mine! Set it up for the first time today, only problem I had was staking it out correctly and was under a wind advisory lol. I think it's going to be great! Thru-hiking the 160 mile River to River Trail next week, I can't wait!

    Thanks to this video I set up the tent rather well for my first time with it.
    Thank you for an amazing tent and a great instructional video!

    Just set up my new spruce green duplex in my yard for the first time. This video really helped me out. I need a video for folding it better to fit back in the bag. Love the tent! Can't weight to use it to replace my 6lb tent.

    Thanks for the video. I just set up my new Duplex and took a training hike with my new fully loaded Blast. Next week I start the Long Trail with my trusty hound mix Maggie. I can not wait. The video was nice but to be honest the tent sets up very easily. Thanks for the video and mostly for keeping this old man on the trial with super light gear. I literally could not be doing this without your gear. Take care

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  6 лет назад +1

      We will definitely try to get to something like that. However we typically just carry the Flex Poles for pitching on solid services. They are available on our website or we use rocks to anker the stakes down.

  • @darrelldowney6359

    Question: If the ground is sloping as it nearly always is on the AT... and you set your head on the uphill side and your feet on the downhill side... During the night while I’m sleeping, the pad slides downhill until it comes in contact with the “downhill” edge of the bathtub. This pushes that downhill bathtub edge outside the overhang... and water pools inside the bathtub until I wake up and scoot my sleeping pad back uphill. Meanwhile, my quilt’s footbox gets soaked. Any recommendations for that? (Happened to me last week on the AT). Love the tent otherwise!

    • @TheL4lli
      @TheL4lli 3 года назад +1

      Add some silicone stripes to the bottom of your pad. Should stop sliding!

  • @tombock5472
    @tombock5472 6 лет назад +1

    What considerations and or changes to the setup would you make if your only choice is sloping or uneven ground? Just received mine and can't wait to test it out.

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  6 лет назад +1

      Really the only thing you would have to change is possibly the height of the poles. You always want the poles to rise to the same height on both sides so you might have to adjust one to be longer so shorter depending on the slope.

    • @tombock5472
      @tombock5472 6 лет назад

      Thanks! I see a lot of setup videos and they all have perfect ground. Don't think I'll experience that on the trail too often. My first attempt I had to work at it a bit but was able to get a pretty good setup. It rained that night and the next day. No water inside so I was happy!

    Yo ZPacks, just bought a duplex and have just 1 Q. What are the two D-shaped tie down points on either side peak for (above the installed trekking poles)? You can see them on 1:03 to 1:06 in the vid when the right hand touches them. Guessing those are just 2 additional tie-down points during windy conditions?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад

      Hey there John,
      Those are for attaching the Flex Poles to make the Duplex a free standing tent :)

  • @PacemakerandButtons
    @PacemakerandButtons 7 лет назад +1

    Hey guys.... I know this sounds redundant but have you ever done any videos on the TRI PLEX? sure its the same as the Duplex but I'd like to see one done for it. For Hiker couples maybe you could show how and if its needed for two people to set it up.Just a suggestion. We always see the duplex but not the TRI PLEX

  • @darrelldowney6359
    @darrelldowney6359 5 лет назад

    Second Question: When it is raining AND windy... what is the best way to prevent rain from being blown under the doors on the windward side of the tent? Shorten the poles? This was not nearly as big a problem as the “sliding pad” problem described above... but, while I’m asking.... might as well learn from the best. Thoughts?

    nice vidéos.
    Overall, i'm kidn of disapointed with my own model.
    Only made 3 hikes with it and i add a hole at one of the corners.
    Tried to join the aftersales, wich told me "naah, we're not gonna repair it... just put some tape on it..." (wich i did... but it's never gonna last long...)
    And today, while checking it, i see a default on a stiching where i also get some sort of "tape (protecting the stiching) just colapsing and moving...
    So yes... those tents are defenatly squishy and overall... I thought i would, for that price (with the extra 160$ taxes i've got the get it here in europe) had at least a better aftersale that just a "taping solution"
    I'm sad, coz i invest a lot in this tent, and believe me, i'm a really cautious user with all my stuff. But here, i honestly have to say i'm a bit disapointed after seeing all those good reviews.
    Shame you don't have any overseas place in europe to get those things fixed and accelerate the process while also having some better / closer / cheaper aftersale solutions
    Cheers and happy hiking to everyone.

    Can you set up the vestibule from inside the tent? I’m setting up mine in my yard and it seems challenging to do. I’m just thinking when it rains it might be needed?

    • @guavavodka
      @guavavodka 5 лет назад +1

      Second question: what are the very top loops for on the top of the peaks? Also what are the extra black circles/loops for on the walls?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад +1

      Yes it can be, you'd have to get on your knees inside the tent and then lean out of the door to set up the vestibule. With a little practice it becomes fairly routine.
      Those loops and the extra wall reinforcements are for attaching the Freestanding Flex Pole upgrade. We have a video about that set up on our channel if you're curious :)

    I just set mine up for the first time. Video was great. But my mesh pockets are not at the ends as I thought they would be. They are at the doors? Not a great spot for them. Is this a new design or a manufacturer error?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for reaching out. For the Duplex the normal location for Mesh Pockets are at the doors. We chose to place them there so they would not come into contact with peoples head and feet.

    Hi Zpacks, what is the companies policy on people cowboy camping on top of their duplex? It is a nice option to have over bringing a tarp/groundsheet instead on a trip but wondering what you guys have seen long term from use like this. I think it would be ideal if using it in this fashion to fold the thicker groundsheet over so it faces both the top and bottom for 1P. Nice to be under the stars at times when weather permits or laziness prevails :) thanks in advance for the feedback!

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад +4

      That’s a good question. We would definitely not recommend cowboy camping on top of the tarp side of the tent as it could tear or have a negative impact on the material. Like you said though, you could fold it in half and cowboy camp on the thicker bathtub floor portion and it should be fine. However all of us here at Zpacks simply cowboy camp directly on the ground or on our groundsheet poncho so personally we would never sleep on top of our tent. Hope this helps. ✌️

    I just got this tent and can't figure out how to secure the doors in the event of rain or strong winds. Backpacking season is just beginning now, so I've not had to deal with this, but it seems that wind and rain would come easily through the gap between door & floor. Thanks for any tips

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  6 лет назад

      Thanks for reaching out. We would definitely recommend watching our Duplex Tent overview video. You shouldnt have any issues with water come in-between the storm door flaps. Just pull them nice and tight and secure the toggle at the center of the doors and you will be good to go.

    Is rolling the tent instead of stuffing recommended to increase the longevity of the tent? Will there be a significant difference?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад +1

      We have not personally noticed a difference between either approach.
      However, rolling is quicker and helps keep the tent from taking up too much volume when packed up. - Adam

    Do you have a problem with humidity inside dripping since it doesn't have an extra trap over it?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  7 лет назад +3

      No not normally. Most of the time we recommend sleeping with 2 storm doors open so the tent will breath well.

    • @EspenFrafalne
      @EspenFrafalne 3 года назад

      I have only had it out for a couple of trips so far, with all doors closed both times, and had almost no condensation either of these times. The first time was in January, with below freezing temperatures, and the second time was in the summer, when i pitched it about 50 meters from a lake. This is in southern Norway though (the same longitude as the US/Canada border), and im guessing pitching it in the Amazon would have different results.

    I'm really enjoying my Duplex. In fact, I'm in it right now, a little east of Santos.
    How do you recommend staking the vestibule flaps away from the tent to get some exterior cover for gear, etc?

    • @TheL4lli
      @TheL4lli 3 года назад

      It doesn't really tell, does it! I figures my own way to do it until I realized you are supposed to use the same line that tightens the poles - it even has that weird looking piece in the end. Just add a knot in the middle of the line, use that for the stake and the rest is for the flaps. Voila! Zpacks should show this procedure in the video.

      @@TheL4lli OK...got it. Thanks for the response. Once I read your response, I watched the video closer and there it is...the funny little hook that holds the rings on the corner of the vestibules! LOVE THIS TENT!

  • @Ivaylo_P_Hristov
    @Ivaylo_P_Hristov 4 года назад

    Hi! I wonder how do you handle the condensation problem in the tent? Do you separate the inner tent from the fly when dry them? I'm talking for drying in the nature not at home. I ask you this question because I have Vaude Power Lizard Sul 1-2P and when there is no wind there is a lot of condensation. I always separate the inner tent from the fly when I dry them in the nature and then I merge the inner tent with the fly before next pitching. I spent a lot of time for this.

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  4 года назад

      Our tents are single wall so there is no inner tent or fly. Dyneema Composite fabric does not absorb any water so drying the tent is very easy. Simply lay it out and wait for it to dry, the drying process should not take long because the material didn't absorb any water. To handle condensation we recommend leaving the storm doors open.

    • @zpacksofficial

      Typically you would be fine with the Triplex if they dogs are no large breeds. The Triplex is quite large.

  • @consumedesign
    @consumedesign 7 лет назад

    Fold and roll? Not stuff in the sack? I thought the consensus with CF was to stuff?

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  7 лет назад +6

      Due to the stuff sack size, it can be difficult to stuff the tents inside. It will work but it is easier to fold and roll it up. It is also much easier to set up the tent the next time when starting from the folded and rolled set up.

    Curious how this tent gets set up when on the jmt at plus 10000 ft. Little soil and a lot of rocks.

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  6 лет назад +2

      Most people do not camp on the passes. If you were camping up high you would stake it out as normal and use rocks if necessary. When I did the PCT and the JMT I had no issues. In between the passes there are perfect tent sites with great soil typically.

  • @cindyleegalyean2831

    HOw does one stake it down if there are no rocks?

      We’ve never had that happen honestly. But you could always take the Flex Poles which make the tent free standing. Check them out on the shelter pad.

    Hi team, 2 things:
    1. how do I minimize the condensation? Would it deteriorate if I pack it with the condensation?
    2. How do I pitch it so that the floor from the inside tent (bathtub) is raised up? I seem to not be able to have it raised up

    • @zpacksofficial
      @zpacksofficial  5 лет назад +1

      If able, keep both doors open to allow for airflow, that will really help with minimizing condensation. Packing it up with moisture would not deteriorate the material. We would recommend letting the tent dry before storage, as the moisture could rust the zipper pulls over time and cause the tent to pick up a smell.
      To raise the bathtub walls ensure that your trekking poles are set to the correct height of 48", that will allow the floor walls to raise higher. - Adam
