I've been doing mine almost 2 years and I got it down cheap and still great oil samples. I used to run high dolla oil and Lucas. Now I get the house brand at Tractor Supply and ad a gallon of 140w gear oil and it stays as clean as rotella and less blow by. Detroit 14L 60 series 2006 Columbia.
Excellent tip indeed. My blowby is RIDICULOUS. I got my oil changed during an oil pain gasket replacement and thinking about changing it because they used that nextgen crap. All these dealers/quick lube places do.
The problem with adding gear oil is that doesn’t fix the engine damage you’re just covering it up so it makes you feel better. The reason blowby exists is because the rings are packed of carbon and the oil passages in the piston are clogged up. Get a high quality bypass oil filter that makes the oil much cleaner and almost yellow. Change the oil every 10k no matter what. Run a strong additive that cleans carbon every few fill ups.
All your videos are super informative 👌🏻👌🏻. I’m thinking of doing the service on my truck by myself. As we can surely save great amount of money and on top of that we can do a better job and like you said let the oil drain properly. Thanks a ton for all your videos and great work. Keep the good stuff coming. Love and peace ✌️
@@maratkhusnutdinov8939 it’s easier to do oil samples without getting dirty. So you can see if there’s metal, fuel; or coolant from the results instead.
Well, I'm good to do it down to about zero degrees. After that...screw it....lol! Honestly it has more to do with if I have time. We keep awful darn busy here with some other obligations we have. And I also have an agreement with my wife that I won't spend all my time working on the truck, so I have to budget my time carefully. Lately I've broken that agreement a little too often.
I’ve got the same engine in mine. Do you prime both oil filters? Also is 10 gallons accurate (don’t have a bypass) for total oil including priming? TIA
Good morning I was wondering where are some safe and legal places we can perform maintenance on our trucks. The reason I ask is because I live in an urban city and I can't bring my truck home to work on it like some that love in rural areas. I was think for example a walmart parking lot? Thanks
Good evening. I have a 60 series 14l and having low oil pressure issues. Changed the oil, oil filter, oil pump, bearing, valves and oil pressure sensor. Got the engine checked and everything was okay now the yellow check engine light and red check engine light and truck dies after 35min or so. Any help?
I didn't see any noticeable increase in mpg. But I like how much easier the truck starts when its very cold outside. My 90 day average is 7.62. But I am always over77,000 lbs. I don't drive over 65. Mostly about 62-63. Thanks for watching!
@Uh Oh stay tuned in. I'm hopefully going to have some extra money here shortly. Going to turn this truck into a project where I see where I can go for fuel economy....one product at a time. Hopefully soon.
mechanic here wanted $300 to change oil/filters and grease truck plus i supply everything so i decided to do it myself i want to learn how to add lucas or some guys add gear oil to get rid of minor leaks here and there. what you think about that ? thanks for video man
I want to know more about the oil bypass system. I have a 98 12.7. My blowby is concerning me 😔! I have excellent power and great oil pressure. Just getting started and afraid the previous owners (FEDEX GROUND CONTRACTORS 🤦🏾♂️) neglected the truck to the point I may need engine work at 360k.
greasing is that sucks. I change oil, filters, diesel filters, all fluids and tire pressure then take it to loves for greasing and pay $150 for it. its too much work and i hate doing it even though i have the pump.

I've come back to your vid to verify that your glider doesn't have a primary fuel spin on filter as well. Why don't these gliders have them. And I don't have a coolant filter on my glider.
I have Columbia glider and it’s peace of sh_t in terms of driver comfort, unbelievably uncomfortable truck on road, it’s more loud than inside in 2 world war tank, steering wheel it’s sucks, engine break unusable in downhills on new engine, cab lights should be more bright, every week spent in this truck I feel to I shorten my life for one year, easy and cheap maintenance and money maker but killing driver to much.
Haha get a Peterbilt you’ll regret the stove pipes next to your ear. The Columbia is a good truck but it’s getting old and needs upgrades to be comfortable. If you get big mufflers and air suspension on the front with a good drivers seat it will feel like a brand new truck. If you still have too much road noise get better tires and install rubber dynamat on the cab floor and walls.

you just add a gallon of the gear oil with the 10g of oil ?
does it help with minor leaks ?

Always grease your truck by yourself! You can find some problems under it before they stop you on the shoulder somewhere in the middle of Montana.

Fleet Farm
What is the normal oil you use?
I prefer chevron delo or amsoil.

Where did you buy oil for that price?
There is a chain in the upper Midwest called Fleet Farm.. a few times a year they have huge sales and mail in rebates.
