The short was called "Toying Around" and it was centered around the "Paranormal Research Institute". The same institute/organization that we saw featured in "Wrong Channel". 😁

Your video was probably my favorite of the bunch. The cute storybook vibe really made everything feel so uncanny. The mother felt very... untrustworthy, and the daughter looked so innocent that it was hard to tell what was happening behind her cute expression. Very well made and I immediately searched the comments for the creator!
Knights Evocation was our favourite entry! Loved the chapters, locations, character design, and story. Plus, we recognize its sure "fun" lugging all the equipment out at night to make a fog/light scene in the middle of the forest haha. On top of the video you make, you get the fun stories and adventure along the way. Really neat stuff, hope to see more of it in the future!

puppet making guide is exactly my favorite genre of this kind of thing andy is live was pretty good, could see that working in a longer form as well whats inside with mark was fun as hell, that poor diety the animation choices in ruby bridge were pretty great; and the 'scp' and 'mandela' mashup of the delivery were pretty great too The binding: top quality. only note is the timeline could have been stretched a bit but honestly perfectly great as it is frequencies felt like what i wanted paranormal activity to be something about the mother in Believe Mandy feels super sketch...but it could just be the writing. otherwise i quite liked it loved sycamore, but that monster reveal at the end took me out in the best way man

Loved yours, and genuinely your voice acting was really good! It sold the whole thing for me. And the dialogue was really good, it made me go “I like these guys” lmao
yeah the characters sounded like real people having a conversation, that's a rare thing with a lot of these. Good timing and believable banter, you did a fantastic job 👍
Serious kudos on that one. Not a lot of horror creators realize the scariest thing isn't the monster itself, but the psychological aspect associated with the characters experiencing the horror. I think that was the best one tbh. There is something truly terrifying about never being able to feel certain of yourself or even being able to recall what you were doing in that moment. Losing an entire moment of thought while something terrifying is on your tail is some next level terror.
Nothing scares me more than losing memory. This genuinely was the most terrifying. It didn't scare me, it horrified me. Let this be a lesson to anyone. You don't need good effects if you make the acting and reactions believable. Your concept was cleverly executed. I wasn't with you at first but the more layers you put on it the more believable it became. You should feel good about this.
@@Silverheart19 He was quite a horrible person anyway with his treatment of his ex and calling her names. I curious to see what would happen to him but also didn't care what happened to him at the same time.
It was great! But the main guy was definitely a a-hole based on the beginning (his disrespect for his girlfriend and saying goth "hoes" 🙄) so I didn't really care what happened to him. lol however the horror of what he went through was still effective.

Really enjoyed "Puppet Making Guide Tape." Reminded me of those weird shows you'd catch sometimes in the middle of the night on public access channels back in the late 80's/90's....except this kept my attention. Very well done.
There might be an entire series in that idea. "Late night public access". With the twist being that it's the beta tape (remember, studios didn't use VHS back then) that's haunted. Tapes were ordinary before being played in them... just standard latenight strangeness. Slowly taking from the tapes, blank sots on one tape where words got taken, to eventually say the message on the last tape.... patches of static on items taken. *laugh* I could see a fanfic based on using a camcorder to take footage of thanksgiving dinner to feed your pet haunted tape machine....

Payback had a really sweet ending, as good for horror as the concept of "actually a ghost the whole time" was it was low key heartwarming to find out that James came back one last time just to fuck with his brother
I really loved this short! It was creepy but then with a bittersweet twist at the end. And as someone who loved your previous candy bowl win with "3am rules" it was great to see something you made again! It must have been an awesome feeling to be the first short of the night.

I had to pause the video from laughing so hard. 'Being stupid enough to accidentally put salt on an open wound' took the video from 'parody' to believeable like a magic spell. Excellent pacing. Loved it.

You can tell that Ruby Bridge was written by a guitar player, by how one of the main characters was ASKED to play his guitar. "Oh, c'mon stop it. I just carried this big acoustic instrument out to our two people hiking trip by accident! Are you filming me, oh noo, what if someone will hear me! So embarrassing, anyway here is wonderwall"
Jacob: "Noooo why would you ask me to play!" Isaac: "You lugged that guitar into the woods jackass." Jacob: "Yeah well... I didn't expect I'd be playing it!" Isaac": "Your inner logic is astounding."

All Reviews: "Payback" made me like the protagonist, then managed to make me feel like it was fair to him while STILL giving me a hell of a chill. Fantastic. Weirdly heartwarming but still horror. "WIKAG": Very nice, philosophical, wastes no time at all. "PMG": Very eerie analog horror. Nice. "IWY": Very chilling and relatable portrait of grief, great ending. Felt like the "Rebirth" ending from Silent Hill 2 a little bit, which is awesome. "AiL": Really nice commentary on the modern world and the way we think the internet not being real life makes us safe. "WIWM": Same as previous comment, but also very funny. "Wrong Channel": Ooh, that was some great analog horror. Wish I could've voiced the ghost; I love the ominous ASMR. "K's E": Nice visuals; y'all clearly had fun making this, too. "Ruby Bridge": Very unique style, nice natural acting. "The Binding": Nice mix of analog and modern horror. "The Orphanage": Same genre as Amanda the Adventurer; very disturbing. "Frequencies": Nice Ice Nine Kills poster! Very natural acting and writing elevated this one above many of these entries. I loved it. "Believe Mandy": Hyper-realistic, almost, and very eerie. Also, SUPER- cute corgi. "Short Term Memory": Extremely creepy, excellent acting, and satisfying for anyone who's ever been ignored by somebody who treated them as subhuman. That he couldn't even remember her name the whole time she was menacing him/ frying his brain was so telling. "Feed Me Three Times": Slightly marred by the classic "glasses on during over the shoulder scenes, glasses off before and after" mistake and the overused trope of the car not working, but there was at least a justification for the latter and it was quite spooky and well-executed all around. The ending? Fucking INCREDIBLE. *Wow.* What absolute genius, something I didn't at all see coming. "Demon Rulebook": Refreshing style, charming themes. Another "creepy but heartwarming" entry, and that's my jam. "Sycamore": Cinematography and acting/directing stand out here. FAVORITES: Payback, Puppet Making Guide, It Wasn't You, Andy is Live, Wrong Channel, Frequencies, Believe Mandy, Short Term Memory, FM3T, Demon Rulebook. Some of these felt close to professional; others were clearly quite low budget but still managed to wow me. Kudos to everyone involved. Grand Prize: "Feed Me Three Times." That completely unexpected payoff that you wouldn't understand without the buildup... so glad I saw it on this compilation rather than elsewhere; it wouldn't have had the same context for me. Thanks, Night Mind. Awesome special. Sorry I caught it late, but so happy I caught it at all. Now I'm gonna go check out the previous Candy Bowls, which I somehow missed despite being subscribed for years! Not sure how on earth that happened. I can only blame my love of Halloween and need to celebrate it in person.
What an amazing treat for Halloween! Thanks to all of the super talented creators who sacrificed their flesh and sanity to keep our sordid little brains amused for a couple of hours! And thanks to NM for bringing this freakshow to us every year! I hope it becomes a tradition and will still be a Halloween night staple for many decades to come. (Who is responsible for the horror show of The Orphanage? Its amazing lol. There isn't any credits listed. It gives off a lot of the madness vibes that leak from Odd Stories. John did say he was doing a collab this year for Candybowl)
I really love that the same creators who made last years Toying Around came back for Wrong Channel that features the same P.R.I (Paranormal Research Institute) organization. It only makes sense that they would make a comeback for that with Evocation. 😊

It felt like a lost archive tape from the Local 58 series, albeit more self-contained than anything else. Not a bad idea, either.

"WIKAG": Very nice, philosophical, wastes no time at all. "PMG": Very eerie analog horror. Nice. "IWY": Very chilling and relatable portrait of grief, great ending. Felt like the "Rebirth" ending from Silent Hill 2 a little bit, which is awesome. "AiL": Really nice commentary on the modern world and the way we think the internet not being real life makes us safe. "WIWM": Same as previous comment, but also very funny. "Wrong Channel": Ooh, that was some great analog horror. Wish I could've voiced the ghost; I love the ominous ASMR. "K's E": Nice visuals; y'all clearly had fun making this, too. "Ruby Bridge": Very unique style, nice natural acting. "The Binding": Nice mix of analog and modern horror. "The Orphanage": Same genre as Amanda the Adventurer; very disturbing. "Frequencies": Nice Ice Nine Kills poster! Very natural acting and writing elevated this one above many of these entries. I loved it. "Believe Mandy": Hyper-realistic, almost, and very eerie. Also, SUPER- cute corgi. "Short Term Memory": Extremely creepy, excellent acting, and satisfying for anyone who's ever been ignored by somebody who treated them as subhuman. That he couldn't even remember her name the whole time she was menacing him/ frying his brain was so telling. "Feed Me Three Times": Slightly marred by the classic "glasses on during over the shoulder scenes, glasses off before and after" mistake and the overused trope of the car not working, but there was at least a justification for the latter and it was quite spooky and well-executed all around. The ending? Fucking INCREDIBLE. *Wow.* What absolute genius, something I didn't at all see coming. "Demon Rulebook": Refreshing style, charming themes. Another "creepy but heartwarming" entry, and that's my jam. "Sycamore": Cinematography and acting/directing stand out here.
FAVORITES: Payback, Puppet Making Guide, It Wasn't You, Andy is Live, Wrong Channel, Frequencies, Believe Mandy, Short Term Memory, FM3T, Demon Rulebook. Some of these felt close to professional; others were clearly quite low budget but still managed to wow me. Kudos to everyone involved.
Grand Prize: "Feed Me Three Times." That completely unexpected payoff that you wouldn't understand without the buildup... so glad I saw it on this compilation rather than elsewhere; it wouldn't have had the same context for me. Thanks, Night Mind.
Awesome special. Sorry I caught it late, but so happy I caught it at all. Now I'm gonna go check out the previous Candy Bowls, which I somehow missed despite being subscribed for years! Not sure how on earth that happened. I can only blame my love of Halloween and need to celebrate it in person.
Many great ghost stories! I'm an especially big fan of Wrong Channel and The Binding, but everything was wonderfully spooky and eerie!

What an amazing treat for Halloween! Thanks to all of the super talented creators who sacrificed their flesh and sanity to keep our sordid little brains amused for a couple of hours! And thanks to NM for bringing this freakshow to us every year! I hope it becomes a tradition and will still be a Halloween night staple for many decades to come.

I really love that the same creators who made last years Toying Around came back for Wrong Channel that features the same P.R.I (Paranormal Research Institute) organization. It only makes sense that they would make a comeback for that with Evocation. 😊
