What we need is a virtual console, updated re-release of Generation 3 collection. Just like how there's currently a Megaman Battle Network Collection being made, based on japanese roms, including ALL OF THE E-READER CARDS. That means: Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald, Sootopolis City battle basement trainers, FR, LG, Emerald Trainer Hill (along with released "suggested setup cards", making them achievements), All 10 or 12 E-reader berries (making them applicable for Emerald too), Regi Dolls card, EON Ticket, Colosseum Virtual Room Trainer cards (mentioned in this video), And all of the Pokémon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire e-reader cards, especially the rare encounters card that lets you find & catch the otherwise unavailable Aerodactyl, Chikorita, Cyndaquil & Totodile. ASIDE FROM THOSE, there needs to be a re-release of Colosseum with ALL OF ITS CUT CONTENT (check cutting room floor for more details) and EVENTS. Where normally, you could only get up to 52 pokémon. 48 Shadow Pokémon, Espeon, Umbreon, Plusle & Ho-oh. But with pokémon planned but cut from the game, three shadow pokémon bound to japanese exclusive Virtual Trainer room, access blocked Celebi & Light Ball Pikachu and Celebi, THE NUMBER CLIMBS UP TO 82 TOTAL POKéMON, TIE-ING WITH POKEMON XD! On top of it all, adding the implemented but never used Altering Cave (FR,LG,E), Navel Rock & Birth Island (FR,LG,E) and Faraway Island (E) and all of the pokémon distributions, just IMAGINE how much content we were supposed to get but never did! Imagine how much playability those would add! I know it's a pipe dream, but I genuinely wish this would someday be a reality... So much cool content, so much heartbreak... Anyway thank you for this video.
I've been thinking about truly infinite setups for this format for a week now, and I think they might exist. A Porygon2 with Recycle, Recover, and a Leppa Berry has effectively infinite PP and HP, given enough time. You can also bring a Mew with Transform and a Leppa Berry to for infinite PP on any arbitrary Pokemon, say a Kyogre, transforming into the Porygon2 occasionally to recycle the Leppa Berry. I haven't tested any of this on cart but see no reason why it wouldn't work.
Porygon2 doesn't have the damage potential to leverage the recovery. I did try it once but only got to Battle 20 before I lost. I also tried a similar set with Refresh Smeargle to heal off status conditions and Sheer Cold to KO opponents (with the level difference it's about 70% accurate) the only issue that set has is Sturdy
@@SirToastyToes yeah I suspected porygon2 wouldn't be able to deal enough damage, which is why I thought of an alternate setup for Transform. Also I somehow completely forgot about Smeargle, which can run Recycle/Transform in a single set, obsoleting Porygon2

Great video on a topic I'm all too fond of! Finding out my beloved E-reader only worked with Japanese Colosseum and NOT Gale of Darkness, I rushed to pick up a complete japanese copy of Colosseum. Loved the team! My one critique is maybe swap one of the damage dealers for a Kyogre with lefties. You can get some great spread damage with water spout and surf, AND you get passive recovery with leftovers for some longevity! Worth a thought
I'm genuinely surprised just how much stuff is hidden away behind the e-Reader. All that work put into aspects of the games to be seen by so few people.
I feel like your strategy has some glaring flaws that could wall you in certain scenarios. May I suggest: Kyogre @ Leftovers Water Spout Thunder Ice Beam Surf Honestly, I'm kind of shocked this didn't occur to you. It's basic team building. Be better~ But this is really fascinating to see the cut content! The e-reader seems like such a cool thing we in the west never got to toy with. Video on the unique berries available perhaps?
For sake of preservation, can you provide scans of those cards, I have scoured dozens of sites, images, and many of the archives and forums have been expunged or died.
Endless battle also reappeared in PBR as the post-game mode for Courtyard Colosseum. You get to spin a wheels after each battle to get a potentially positive effect, but it’s still an endless mode
Sorry if this has also been commented, but technically the e-reader did release in PAL since it came out in Australia and New Zealand. Loved the Kyogre jokes, I couldn’t stop laughing
I think if you wanted to make a team that didn't have 6 Kyogres, you could maybe add Trick + Recycle + Leppa Berry Mr. Mime to fix PP but I worry you won't have enough time each battle unless you can switch your leads between rounds
imagine going through the effotrt of translating all the extra content and scrapping it, because the DLC reader didn't sell well enough. Instead of just having the extra content be available without the propriatary bullshit
Can you not fight other legendaries in this mode? Why not use EQ and Wacan Berry on a Kyogre in case you fight a CM Raikou? Or one with Brick Break in case you fight Blissey...?
There are set teams for each trainer so there are no Blisseys. Wacan Berry would only ever work once and also it doesn't exist in Gen 3 There is one Raikou but they just faint after one Surf because they're 30 levels down
