    I love Ryogoku! I stayed at Pearl Hotel in Ryogoku last year. It was reasonably priced and clean. Highly recommended. My husband and I had ramen and gyoza at the restaurant under the train line near Ryogoku Station. And we went to the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Highly highly recommended! Hokusai was the ukiyoe artist who painted "Great Wave." John, you can create one-hour RUclips video just with the museum.

    I stayed here for the entire of March. I spent a decent amount of time exploring the area, walking along the river, going to Yodobashi etc. Really like this area of Tokyo but the morning rush to the city center is quite rough.

    This is where I stayed when I went to Tokyo and I loved it! It was a quiet but not boring part of town. I stayed at the APA Hotel and I loved walking around Ryogoku at night. Foolishly, I saved my visit to the Sword Museum for my last day there without realizing it was closed that day so I only got to see the first floor exhibits which are apparently still open when the museum itself is closed.

    I stayed at that tall APA on my first trip to Japan last year and it was by far the best out of the 4 hotels I stayed at. Staying there again in July and I've paid extra for a top floor room for that Lost In Translation style view on the cheap less than £60 a night (that's probably at least 3-4x cheaper than equivalents in London!)

    Ryogoku indeed looks like a gorgeous little ✨Gem💫 as it has such a unique vibe to it.
    Can’t wait for your ‘Special Anniversary’ reunion with Kyosumi Shirakawa in June! Having a lovely cup of relaxing Coffee (@Tiny Paradise & Arise), and a quite peaceful stroll on Fukagawashiryokan-Dori. ☺️

    Hi John. I have always been impressed with the cleanliness of the streets and alleyways of Japanese cities. Several years ago, BBC designated Japan as the cleanest country in the world. This reputation is very well warranted. Since I have Japanese and Irish heritage, visiting both countries from Western Canada on separate occasions was a most rewarding experience. We ate in sushi and udon restaurants in every city we visited. It was a gastronomic dining adventure. Your videos are superbly entertaining and informative. Thank you for featuring:Leo and Kanae in your videos. You have a beautiful family. From Canada 🇨🇦 with 💌📥.

    In all my trips, I spent some nights in Ryogoku, and I enjoy it! It’s two stations from Akihabara, that’s nothing.
    I don’t usually like APA hotels, but the one near the sumo hall is a cut above. I also like a bar there, Pop Eye Beer Club. Their happy hour has free food with drinks, and their yakisoba style spaghetti is fantastic.

    2 spots not to miss in the area: Fukagawa Edo Museum (Edo-Tokyo museum is closed for reno) take a LUUP e-bike or bus from the station ... & ... Ryōgoku Edo NOREN with best value dinning upstairs and photo op 📸
    While I've loved visiting the area a few times over my 7 trips to Tokyo I wouldn't say it's a convenient area to stay/launch from to explore Tokyo. For me, staying in the areas in the far north of Yamamote line are quieter, cheaper, with less tourists and a more local vibe without having to transfer trains onto the city loop line. On my March Tokyo stay there my hotel room was US$37 single a night with microwave, cooktop, fridge, shower/toilet with railway and subway stations 300m away. Hard to beat 😊 Japan trip #10 next week 🤗

    Ryogoku area might be my favourite area to stay in Tokyo during a trip, at least of the areas I've stayed at. It's within a walking distance of multiple different city centers/areas and Chuo-Sobu + Oedo lines can get you to most other main areas conveniently. Yet, it's also quiet and relatively inexpensive to stay at. Now there isn't a whole lot to do at Ryogoku specifically but that's almost beside the point of staying there.

It is super conveniently located, although due to proximity to Akihabara one might up there more often than one would like. 😬 Stayed in the APA Hotel which is nice and affordable, even has an Onsen in the basement (and a Kombini), also a pool but that costs extra (which I didn't understand so we didn't use it).

It is not as trendy and fashionable as Shinjuku or Shibuya, it felt more like a working class city, but I definitely enjoyed its laid-back vibe. The children were also very friendly and would say hi to me in the park.

      @yogimew Месяц назад +1

      @@onlyinjapanGO Actually it is a little older than that. The current Ryogoku west exit building was opened in December 1929 to meet the increasing demand in traffic, and the Ueno station building was open in April 1932.

    • @yogimew
      @yogimew Месяц назад +1

      In the era of reconstruction after the 1923 Kanto earthquake, Tokyo used a lot of steel structures not just in new bridges, but also railway station facilities. Ryogoku station east exit building is a good example where you could see steel columns inside. Another good example is Akihabara platforms 5 and 6, the Sobu Line platforms.
