Just wanted to thank you for all of your videos. My wife and I, just returned home after spending two weeks touring around Japan. We visited Yokohama, Niigata, Sado Island, Omiya and Ueno, Your videos showing the train stations were quite helpful. Many blessing to you and your family
I just visited Takayama and this morning market during the Sakura season last month. Nice place in the mountains. Thanks for rekindling memories of my visit!
I went to Japan for the first time last year for 2 weeks and my 2 days in Takayama were my absolute favorite!! I tell everyone to add it to their itinerary. Can’t wait to go back 🥲
Takayama is the first place I think of when I imagine myself living in Japan. I’m happy to hear John said he can see himself living in there too! That’s really a great place :)
Watching from Holland! Such a relaxing town. I really recommend walking the old streets at night. The empty streets, lights, wooden houses and running water left a impression on me that i can’t compare with any other experience I’ve had in Japan
I’ll give it a go! But we’re in Shirakawago now and perhaps in the way back. From Tokyo, Takayama is in the way to Shirakawago, 45 min drive away so very convenient..
@@onlyinjapanGO if you find the time i would love to see you stream it! Keep up the great vids, you really inspired me to visit the north. It did not disappoint!
Fell in love with Takayama when we went there last month. The one hundred yen cup sake in Funasaka Sake Brewery is a must-visit. There is free museum also in the city. Very quaint and relaxing city indeed.
Went to Takayama last Winter. We found it to be exceptionally beautiful (I could also see myself living there). We had lodging inside an old ryokan which featured one of those fire pits with a kettle on top. There was an onsen, free tea and origami in the lounge area, and a delicious bearkfast, all for a very reasonable price. We took a special sightseeing train from Nagoya to get there, which played audio explanations of the scenery. Very beautiful and lots to see, even if you don't go by car. Definitely one of my top destinations!
Such a beautiful place! The combination of the "new" buildings of the city, with the traditional streets and buildings, with the rivers and the canals on the streets, are so beautiful. Wish you, Kanae, and little Leo to have a great trip! Greetings from Greece 😄✌
This is a perfectly enjoyable video! Thank you John..and family!! :-) Think this place is on my list now..possibly as a Kyoto replacement for the first trip..as those crowds..yikes! This is much more relaxing..and the shops look awesome!! Thx again! 😊
Aww man, I'm so sorry I missed this live stream! So glad you, Kanae and Leo are in Takayama, one of my favorite places in Japan (and Denver's Sister City -- I'm the chair of the Denver Takayama Sister City Committee). Love the video. Thanks for visiting!
Hida Takayama is a Must to stay over 2-days. I really regret that I visite there only one day. If I live long enough, I might be able to visit again for several days including the neighboring villages.
Looks like a nice spot. We spent only 3 days in Japan a few years ago and I had stomach flu for most of it. We will return eventually for longer and try to experience a little more of the rural sites next time or at least cities smaller than Tokyo.
Hope you have a great time there John and Leo and Kani I love seeing them join the live stream I think the town was very nice and peaceful and the gift shops an food shops
I just visited Takayama last week! And I really want to go back again.. About the dog, the owner let me to have picture with him, and he said it's Akita breed! Thanks Mr.John, cant wait for the next video from Takayama !
Wow! You met Kai the Dog! He’s famous. I was a little shocked when Chinese tourists just gave him food, the owner was a little shocked too 😂 different culture. They didn’t ask. He asked if Leo wanted to ride Kai. Leo was too scared hahaha! We saw him again after the stream.
@@onlyinjapanGO omg,I didn't know he's famous!! I was waiting for Leo expression when he meet the dog! Must be so cute!! Chinese tourists gave Kai the dog food??? well... eh, 🤭 Thanks mr.John!!
Gosh, Lio is just soooooo cute! He is bound to be the most popular Lady-Killer soon! I'm sur e Kanae-san is prepared for it with a 10-foot fly swatter!
I'm trying to convince my parents to go to Takayama instead of Kyoto, but we may do both. Both is good. ;) Trying to figure out transportation though...
Hida beef recommendations! Kitchen Hida made the best cut of steak I've ever had. They do western style steaks and other beef-derived foods (stew, corn soup with beef stock). Their A5 tenderloin and chateaubriand are pricey but a must-try. Reservations highly recommended. Tenaga Ashinaga does Japanese style yakiniku and beef sushi, more Japanese fare. A lot cheaper but still very good, and a lot easier to walk-in. Takayama also has other traditional sit-down fare. The local ramen (which ironically is also referred to as "chuka soba" - literally "chinese soba") is tasty, filling and warm. Enjoy your time in Shirakawa-go!
We stayed in a historical Air bnb Japanese house in Hida Takayama. We arrived at night in the rain. We couldn't find the house, so we got out of the taxi because the fare was getting expensive. I walked to find the house. The Google maps kept bringing me to the front door of an elementary school. I thought, is this a joke? Are they trying to trap me into being a teacher in this elementary school? Because I am a teacher.
Chinese use the same kanji for coffee. 咖啡 (pronounced ka-fei. I'm guessing this could be one of the examples where the Chinese borrow a word from Japan as I suspect Japanese were drinking coffee before many Chinese.
Is it because blue (specifically indigo blue) is one of Japans national colors, with a history going back hundreds of years? Of course not. The tarps are blue because most tarps are blue.
Dude, stop screaming their names. If you really want to find them, pause your live stream and call your wife on her mobile phone. Or if you don’t want to pause your live stream, then find them later instead of yelling their names. Your wife is not going to get miserably lost in Takayama. “I’m not shouting that loud”. Yeah, sure.
@@trueKorvus It is just a few vegetables shop along the river. You can buy same vegetables from the supermarket. Nothing special. I prefer doing sake tasting

I miss Takayama so much! I went to the fall festival and now I have to go in the spring to round it all out lol
I agree on the driving advantages to anywhere out in the country in Japan. You see so much more.
ありがとうございます。月にいきます。 I am so glad you did this video!
Aloha 🤙 from Honolulu! Cool video. Thanks, John. You're giving me some really good ideas for countryside travel.
Went to Takayama in 2015 and 2018. A very beautiful town

You can see some of the parts of that float displayed inside the train station.
So wonderful, there!
I’ll be there in 6 weeks🙏🏽 I’m counting down. I can’t wait to visit again 😅
John, Kanae & Leo thanks for visiting our family town lol! 😂. We remember that market, the river, and the sarubobo! Mahalo for thanking us around 🤙🏽😊
Loved this!
Nice to see those places again. BTW Did you visit Kamikochi or the Nikko miniatures in Takayama? I love your video's.

Leo is so adorable!! Thought I saw steam from your croissant?
Stayed 2days in Takayama 3 weeks ago. Stunning place. Stayed at ‘Soy’ an amazing 100+ year old farm house. Recommend it.
I love the thumbnail! Lovely family photo 🥰 The croissant 🥐 was amazing. 😋
Please go to Toyama. You’re so close. They have a glass museum that I would like for you to feature.

I’m runing Bar in Takayama.
I’m exciting!!! I wanna meet you this time.
My bar’s mane is Thumbs Up!
I hope meet you😊
24:44 Hida furukawa is also good to visit, much quieter than Takayama, famous for its koi canals
I'm trying to convince my parents to go to Takayama instead of Kyoto, but we may do both. Both is good. ;) Trying to figure out transportation though...
I guess the way to drive in Japan just to think forward left side of road. Whether turning right or left. Is this good method? To not get confused.
During your travels around Japan, have you encountered any polluted rivers ?
I'll be there next month for 3 nights.
I was so happy Seattle named its hockey team The Kraken. Yes, they do say, “ Release The Kraken! “ at the start.

Was visiting takayama for a bus to shirakawa go in the winter, the snow was heavy so we decided to cancel the city tour..
Oh wow! Must have been pretty but hard to navigate this area. They have pled along the highways is case of snow, people stay in the lanes.

Yeah, the video crashed for quite a while, but, seeing Lio cancelled everything! His cute power is phenomenal.
konnichiwa john daub, kanae, and Leo.👏👏👏
Hey John, I know this is a bit off subject.
Can you explain why everyone uses Blue tarps during the cherry blossom season. Why blue?
Is it because blue (specifically indigo blue) is one of Japans national colors, with a history going back hundreds of years? Of course not. The tarps are blue because most tarps are blue.
So clean, no trash anywhere. I love Japan. The USA is a dump site for people that could care less for other people using the same space.
🎉leo so adorable
i've never seen a long haired akita before!

Y1000 for a croissant.. that's expensive!!!! 😱
Hey John, Kanae + Leo 👍🏻
Wish the old buildings were not so commercialized.
I was the 665th like! Oh no! 😱👿😆👍🍕🎈🌈♥️
URGENT!!!!!!!!! Hi John, can you meet up with someone at Takayama tomorrow. He is very keen to be friends with you!

If you get triggered by stuff, change the channel.
Dont waste your time at morning market at Takayama
Why? What do you recommend as an alternative?
