Interested in seeing some of the other fish in the fish barn and other fish room I have visited. Check it this playlist: ruclips.net/video/xf36b-cu0Eo/видео.html
Those Variatus Cuacuilco are absolutely stunning! I’ve never seen them available. The wild type variatus with the red or yellow tails with bars or spotting are far and away my favorite fish in the hobby.
I bought a few Blue Mickey Mouse female Platys from my local big box pet store who were already pregnant. And a single male Yellow Mickey Mouse Platy. Within a month the females spawned some beautiful fry, some of which didn't make it, but thats ok because my tank is well planted and has many floating plants to hide them and the ones who made it through are now half grown and showing that wonderful blue color. I am hoping that the new female fry will breed with the yellow male and get a cross of color between the two once the fry reach breeding maturity. My question is is that possible to cross the colors, or will one color gene be dominant and just be a single color
@@FishTankBarn thanks dude. I was looking at some pics online and they look gorgeous. I'll email the videos to you once they start spawning. Might be a while because all the females are only half grown lol. Keep up the good videos though lol.
I do find the wild speices to pretty similar in personality. I have found the males to be a little more territorial (not bad) than the domesticated fish. They do definitely establish a heirarchy
Hey Mike, where do you get your platies? Im really wanting some high fin sunset variatus platies or even regular short fin. Ive been looking for months and havent found a source I believe I can trust. Ideally I would like to get them online.

Can never get enough Platy content!!! THANK YOU MIKE!!!
Your welcome Finn Wiggles!
Amazing platies! Glad you were able to acquire some Xiphophorus Xiphidium again. I hope you're able to expand the populations.
Thanks Jeff! I am really wanting to get those going. It took me a long time to get those back.
Thanks Mike! Love learning about the rare platy species.
Your welcome TJ! I am glad that you enjoy it.

Will do Bradford Aquatics. Looking forward to those fish growing up.
This was very interesting! I love seeing conservation in the hobby and less known species being spot lit
Thanks Shelby. I do lot to shine so light on some cool lesser known species
They are wild Variatus platies!
yes they are!
It's nice to see someone sow off some REAL platys!!! Great job on the pronunciation of the platy scientific names.
Thanks NYGold! I try my best at the scientific names and locations.
Awesome collection of pllaties. Nice video, bro.

Thanks Aquatic Life! Appreciate it!
Very beautiful fish.
Thanks glad that you enjoyed them.
@@FishTankBarn I'd like to get 100 of each. That will be sometime in the next 6 months to a year. As I'm right in the middle of a massive move.
Swordtail x platy are nice fish, they look like a platy, and the males have a small swordtail
Thanks Michael!
I love all the rare platies but ever since I saw the pretty basic Green Lanterns at my LFS I've been looking for an excuse to get another tank
Thanks. Agreed. There are a ton of great strains of the common Variatus and maculatus species as well.
Amazing video!
Thank you Platies R Us.

I am not great at the genetics but I think you will probably get a mix some will be blue, some will be yellow and some will be crossed.

@danielingalls8980 Thanks good luck with your breeding project
I love platys and I seen one that looked like a candy corn
I have really enjoy platys as well. Thanks for watching
Liked and subbed! Great info.
Thanks Seamus! Glad you enjoyed the video
Very nice!!! Do you mark your tanks in case you forget the names? If so, what do you use?
I use a label maker but I also keep all of my fish in a google sheet.
@@FishTankBarn ok cool, i need to do that!
@@drockingfish It helps a lot
I really appreciate these wild type platys. Great collection. Do you find these species are as outgoing and personable as the common platy?
I do find the wild speices to pretty similar in personality. I have found the males to be a little more territorial (not bad) than the domesticated fish. They do definitely establish a heirarchy
Hey Mike, where do you get your platies? Im really wanting some high fin sunset variatus platies or even regular short fin. Ive been looking for months and havent found a source I believe I can trust. Ideally I would like to get them online.
I generally get them from club events or the American Livebearer Associstion Auctions
Any chance you're looking to sell some of the Rio Coacuilco? I got a few from the same line at an auction in May and lost the male in the group 😭
Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of males at the moment. Hopefully your females are hit and you can get some fry.
@@FishTankBarn really appreciate it! We'll see. I've got one fry at the moment, let's see what happens!
Wow please tell me you ship fish I love platy fish have yet to come across some of these in person
Unfortunately I do not ship. I usually bring fish to local club auctions (metro Detroit area) and occasionally local convention.
@@FishTankBarn crap that is a major bummer you have some great looking fish man keep up the good work
@@FishTankBarn could you inform me where you get your platies from
What color morph is that in the thumbnail
I believe these are yellow wag platys
I have also panda gold platies
Cool! Sounds like these are nice fish.
Mike, you really spark my interest toward keeping Platies and Livebearers. I just wish I had better KH/pH.
Thanks Carole! I understand, chasing water parameters can be a pain.
Carole, Try setting up a tank with Crushed Coral as substrate, cuttlebone, and see where it is after cycled.
@@GuppyBarnAquatics Thank you!
do you have any Variatus available for sale?
Unfortunately no, I only sell fish locally in Michigan at club auctions.
@@FishTankBarn What part of Michigan? I'm from Iowa. May need a Road trip lol
Do you sell fish
I only locally in the Metro Detroit area at the club auctions.
Can you give me your platy and molly sir 😊
Unfortunately not. I do sell some fry locally in the Detroit area from time to time
@@FishTankBarn i'm from indonesia and i wanna take care of mollies and platy fish sir
@@RizkySetiawan-s7t cool hopefully you can find some in your area
why this dude dounds like kane
No idea who kane is but ok
None of these were pretty and colorful….. sigh😢
Sorry that you didn't like most of the rare platys. Most of them don't have the color that you see in commerically bred fish.
