@@jacobchambers8036 I primarily grow dates, and orchard crop. For field crops, as I understand it, the problem is knocking down the cover crop. I have not done this sort of crop so I can't really help much with your question. Best of luck and God's blessing.

Thanks for breaking down the information. Just in the last few years I found out that bison roamed all the way to the east coast. I was taught in schools that the bison were only on the plains. The education in this country is special on many levels, but there shouldn't be a limit on verifiable facts even if they are "unpleasant" or "unfavorable" to people who did the action. I was raised to believe in consequences. If you don't like the consequences, don't do the action. Often the worst choices are made by the desperate who don't think they have any other choice (impoverished, uneducated, and malnurished) and by the greedy (selfish, gold-digging, and lacking compassion for other living things).
5:44 - 300 years to look back is actually a blessing in America because in Europe, people have been there so much longer, who knows what it naturally was like before human interventions. I’ve been reading about my local area and realized I only need to go back 150 years to figure out what it was like. The flooding that occurred in the area and it’s interesting. I’m only a new homeowner and trying to have native landscape and new to gardening but I’ve been binging these presentations by gabe brown.

I’m saying there’s an opportunity to look back in North America in a different way than maybe Europe, because the land wasn’t so populated or changed drastically - ecosystems wise, that there’s more of an ability to guesstimate how ecosystems were working on some areas (but not all). This was not intended to insult any people. Just an observation that is limited by the format and writing of a comment. It’s also limited as I’m on one point in my journey to learn more. Also I was reacting to something said during the video not a blanket statement true in every circumstance.
Have been listening as a hobby farmer for the last few years. Am building a layer on top of our clary the last 3 years and it's coming along. Not very diverse but will look at planting more seed types in the hayfields next spring. As for the garden, yes, this truly works. Thank you Gabe, keep spreading the knowledge.
I wonder how can i apply this to say a perennial field of strawberries or basil? All these crops would need constant mowing and suck up all the water they want, right?
Shane, please practice on your delivery. Your use of, "YOU KNOW" is extremely distracting. It's beyond a distraction, it's so annoying that I covered the phone speaker and missed the info because of your tic of repeatedly using *YOU KNOW* I don't farm commercially, but this presentation would deter me from taking on your consulting biz. You HAVE to communicate clearly and smoothly. Everytime you say, "YOU KNOW" I think, no, I DON'T know that's why I hired you. I think seeing a speech coach for a couple of sessions would be a big help.
If you can manage to be a little more tolerant of peoples’ imperfections, you will be amazed at what you can learn from them. I happen to know Shane and he is an expert in his field and frankly he doesn’t need speech lessons to teach his clients. They are mature enough to overlook any minor speech tic or other flaws in order to get the most from his expert advice.
You were free to leave at anytime. How much did this video cost you to watch? These gentlemen are trying to help an entire sector of the economy and you can't get over someone saying, "you know." How have you stayed organic and no till? Trying to get started and I’m looking at being no till maybe every third year.

The first and primary stewardship of farmers is the soil. If it is healthy most other things become so much easier!

i have found that first few years very slow and then processes seem to be getting going diversity wise so hang in there!!
