- Interstate H3 connects suburban Honolulu with communities on the north shore of Oahu. It's also the main access road connecting military installations at Pearl Harbor with those at Marine Corp Base Hawaii near Kaneohe. The interstate was built gradually over the course of almost 40 years of planning, protest, and construction, and is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular segments of America's System of Interstate & Defense Highways.
Highlights: JCT HI 83, Hospital Rock Tunnel, Haiku Valley, "Stairway to Heaven", Tetsuo Harano Tunnel, Halawa Valley, Halawa Interchange: END I-H3; JCT I-H201; JCT I-H1
I made that drive in the summer of 2018. There are few Interstate highway drives in the USA that are as memorable as H3 (possibly I-70 west of Denver). The climate and scenery changes so drastically over just a few miles. Had I not left my phone bracket in my last rental car on Kauai, I would have taken my own video.
Sweet Jesus, that's amazing. H3 has a real Japan expressway vibe to it.
Some of the bridges sound just like florida's
Wow, that drive is better than I-280 between San Francisco and San Jose...and that's a beautiful drive in its own right.
For my money, H3 is the single most spectacular stretch on the Interstate System.
Those bridges definitely sound like Florida
Awesome scenery and very green too.
Wow!! Beautiful
Breathtaking scenery. A little odd to see all the 45 mph stretches on an interstate, but I guess Oahu isn't all that big, so it works.
The normal speed for our interstates on Oahu is 55
Normally some roads here on Oahu have slower speed limits, depending on how busy the area that the road passes through, or how many lanes it has.
Am I the only one who hears constant glitching on this guys videos.
Bro when you reach the first part, it sounds like interstate 405😮
The camera doesn't do the view of the scenery justice!
How nice that the mountain are touching the cloud.
Interstate H3 may have a very limited number of exits along it's enitre route but at least it's got way more numbered exits than Interstate 705 in Tacoma Washington has.
That's interesting how Hawaii has a interstates. I guess it helps get where they're going faster.
They are only on the island of Oahu. The most populous island of Hawaii
The scenery is beautiful...but with all the money they get from tourism, you would think the roads would be smoother!
Hawaii?
Look in the description
See any volcanoes
There are lots of volcanoes on this island, they've all been dormant for thousands of years.
Yo h3 has 45 60 and 55 MPH signs
Should they be called Intrastate Highways in Hawaii???
No. The name of the system this highway is a segment of is called the Interstate Highway System. Therefore, it's an Interstate highway.
How many miles does it stretch
KingJoffy the interstate system in Hawaii covers the Honolulu + Pearl, Ewa, Kaneohe metro area, mainly due to many military bases around the city, including the famous Pearl Harbor. This particular highway is 15 miles long, the total length of the interstates in Hawaii is around 56 miles. The only other freeway segments on Oahu are small sections of the Likelike Hwy, the Fort Weaver Rd, and the Pali Hwy. No freeways exist on any Hawaiian islands outside Oahu
