I remember seeing him run when I was a kid. One of the most remarkable sprinters of all time. Unbeatable over 400m. Nobody could ever get even close to him. At the same time it always seemed that he never went all out. We can only guess what would have happened if there would have been somebody in the world to really challenge him.
Judging from all the new records in Tokio now in 2021, all mainly just due to advances in technology, he might have be able to run below 43sec nowadays.

He could of Been the best of all time if if he only knew how to run properly, instead of with his back straight and his chest sticking out, maybe a modern coach could have taught him how to run properly?? It's just a shame that his coaches never pointed it out to him in his peak & educated him on how important being stream line is in running a race, with that knowledge he would of surly been even faster.

@@kitcachapp3094 my high school coach is a good friend of his so I’ve had the chance to talk to Michael. I used to have the same opinion about his running form until he explain the mechanics to me. Running more upright helps you to keep more weight in your feet which helps you put more power into each step. Sprinting speed is made of many parts but one of the most import parts is how hard you can hit the group. By keeping more weight on his feet by running like he did, he could hit the ground harder with each step.

It's like comparing Mike Powell the world record holder in the Long jump to Carl Lewis. Carl Lewis is STILL THE GOAT. could johnson have been any leaner?!..mega ripped!..you can see the EXACT moment that he switched from 3rd to fourth gear at about 190m to go...his turnover increased like it was like hitting the turbo boost...i really wish we'd seen him try to do an all out first 300m and then hold on- i feel that he couldve gone sub 43 if he did that..he always seemed to finish with some left in the tank.

He very likely used steroid thought, just like Bolt and others.

I did it in 60 seconds once, when I was 17!
I dread to think what it'd be nowadays, 20 years later.
I'd be happy with 2 minutes.

He actually has short legs and a long torso. With a little bit more luck on genetics, he could have made miracles happen.
