Literally just got home from buying my first car a 95 Civic EX coupe for 1400, drove it an hour and a half and holy shit does it feel like a Go Cart See guys, if you wait long enough even a brokie like yourself can get his starter dream car
My first car was an 96 audi a4 1.6T with 300k miles. It was in literal mint condition just lots of highway miles. Loved that car till some grandma slammed in to the side of me lol
That’s cool I have a 97 4 door in Florida to use when I visit my gf down there (she drives it too but it’s mine) and they’re so go karty!! Still missy my og go kart the 98 Saturn I used to have
The MR2 in the thumbnail - I just bough damn near the same car in canada for 2k. has the engine but threw a rod. Got a block from a junkyard 4afe (same block) - $200. Good used set of crank, rods, pistons from a bro $350. Im pretty sure I can re-use the head from my blown 4age. ~$2-300 for gaskets and water pump and whatnot. Hopefully get it back on the road for under $3000 all said and done in a few months. Not my first sketchy MR2 rodeo.
Thanks to CCF, I've been able to pool together all legitimate results for the exact vehicle I'm looking for. I can't afford anything anymore but I can at least get the specific results I want.
Im working on an 04 gmc 1500, not what one would consider a "project", but heres my reasons. 1. Its cheap and it runs. 2. Parts are plentiful, and cheap. 3. Its a southern truck, so it will be easy to sell here in ny. 4. Lastly, after rattle canning it matte black, (yes, i am a rattle can picasso), i actually like it. Building an expensive sports car as a project will break your wallet, and rob you of all your time.
It’s impossible to find a Blue/Redtop 16v 4AGE nowadays unless you hit up some specialist who hoards a shitload of them, it sucks I heard some of the Geo Prism GSIs came with them but they’re all probably crushed by now
There's a Prizm with a 4A-GE at a junkyard not far from me. It's been there for probably 20 years. I discovered it a few months ago offered him $500 for the engine + accessories plus the computer and harness... Is that a decent deal? I want to 4A-GE swap my 83 Sprinter Carib Edit: for context. I know fuck all about the GE series. My car originally had a 3A-C and all A series engines bolt up to the transmission. A few people have done the swap so I have enough information to do it. It'll just be a very new thing for me because I exclusively own carbureted cars.
@ I’m not the best dude when it comes to financial advice but I’d say that’s a great deal; you’re probably paying way more than 500 for a 4AGE by itself. Engine aside, only around 7k GSIs were built
Yes these engines are 30 years old of course that's the case it's not like you can whistle down the road and get one for 800 bucks like it's 2003. Yeah you may get lucky and find one in the junkyard I've found a few but they're far and few between they're aging out of the cheap junk and now they're desirable junk
This is what my friends are doing one of them is hoarding whatever '80s Datsun or Toyota he can get to keep around for his spare parts or occasionally he'll just fix one up and sell it because he has the parts. This same person also hordes GMT 400 and 800 trucks uses the shitty rusty ones for parts and again occasionally fixes a nice one keep the parts organized in a shed also does that with first gen charger and challengers. On a similar note I have a friend that does something similar with clapped out early 2000s German Performance cars stuff like amg's or compressor stuff and just sits on the parts and occasionally fixes one in the same way that 80's performance stuff was absolutely worthless 20 years ago. I kinda do this smaller parts but I don't have the room to store it.
man this was 10 years ago but i worked with a huge 4AGE guy like that. I mean mostly golden age toyota stuff of all kinds like 1j's and the like but corollas were his bread and butter and you're totally right about hoarding. went to this dudes house after work one time and straight up had gold in his living room scattered all over the place. hed been in the game for a while at that point but holy crap was that a lot of obscure toyota parts in one spot
You guys should use a VPN and search marketplace cars in different Countries like Australia trust me Aussie FB marketplace is something with all our JDM stuff
I see so many "project car for sale lost interest" i think yall need this tip, you'll actually save money spending over double the roller price for a pretty clean driver. No you don't need to pay fir a perfect restored car but a pretty clean car is a good start. Spend a year fixing it up shouldnt take much, then you can sink right into mods
So, is the secret to just buy cars at the bottom of their resale curve, or is this more of a situation if knowing what you have and not running it into the ground?
If you buy a project car do not expect to see any return on your money I have 11,000 into my Porsche 944 worth $5,000 make it $8,500 selling parts. Simple I like it and i'm doing the work myself I don't really care about losing money I want it. If you want to speculate and are willing to wait pick up 2000s performance vehicles that are worthless garbage right now in the same way that 90s stuff was even 5 or 6 years ago even parts car grade stuff can be worth it. Honestly the cheap stuff is the 2000 stuff at the moment the 90s for the most part with some exceptions have sailed and the 80s is within it's peak price.

Not factoring paint into my build has screwed me on my 4th gen Z28. Even Maaco wants 4 grand for a paint job. It's one of the few things I don't like to do myself, and I really didn't think I'd be spending purchase price just for paint. After the couple grand I've put into drivetrain, it would have been cheaper and nicer just to buy a nicer example.
Beater with the heater but it happens to be something so called special so it’s not 1000 bucks which used to be 500 bucks which used to be 200 bucks which used to be just get it the fuck out of here! Economics is fucking interesting

about the black MR2 why does it always have to make sense in the pricing of saving a car? if the shell is still good why should it be a waste to just put a good engine in it and get the car on the road, most project car is just anyway a black hole of money that just disapere in to the car and never get refunded if the car gets sold. just save the por MR2 and make it one of the survivors.
You guys gotta get over the 240sx crap. $17k for an AUTOMATIC 240 when you could get a nice, pretty low mileage manual C5 for the same price is insane. 240s are not good cars, they never were, they were cheap platform cars back when they were cheap, there is no reason to buy one now. JDM Silvias get a pass because SR20DET is a solid engine even in stock form, but not a USDM 240 turd.
The DRIFT TAX is real, and it sucks... Any decent RWD manual vehicle is expensive, even if it's beat up, high miles, and rusty af. Especially now that the majority of new sports cars are sold at luxury vehicle prices.
wtf is a jimmy up?
Some Millennial shit, I guess…
I want to google it, but i'm afraid it's gonna show me some things i can not unsee.
It's just a "drift clothing brand", and their logo is a woman's ass while they hold an umbrella. Very strange.
Gen Z using millennial as a way to describe something old/irrelevant is the best lol
