My 9 year old biracial daughter just got hers braided for the first time for picture day. Our stylist canceled the day before. I panicked, and cried. Seriously i was raised by a single father and have the worst hair skills you can imagine! But i put my big girl panties on and called the beautiful amazing African hair braiding queens in our town and they told me to bring her right over! I couldn't believe it. My baby only stayed up 2 hours passed her bedtime and had the best pictures ever!

@@paigeaustin7107 yes, I learned the hard way! I use to get my hair braided at the African shops when I was younger. I'm 49 yrs. old left with tension alopecia around my edges and it never grew back. Find a American braider that knows how to braid softer hair without ripping it out from the root. 💚

People don't realize that paternal grandmothers, more often than not, play second fiddle to maternal grandmothers.... our willingness to participate in the lives of our grandchildren is just as strong... but sometimes restrained because of a weakened mother-in-law/daughter-in-law bond. As women, we should not let this be so. We all need each other. We all love these children. In other words, "Daddy mommas" don't always have the same privileges or involvement as "Momma mommas". The closeness in this family is incredibly beautiful. Complements to your mother-in-law for saving the day. Complements to you for her invitation to do so and your willingness to learn from her. I know you and your children will remember these things when Daddy's Momma grows old. Bring it all back to her. Y'all are setting an excellent example of how family is done. ❤

My daughter is mixed, and I could do regular plats, but her auntie always had her braided up looking nice! Aunt Yvette always saved the day! God rest her soul! She was one of a kind!
I absolutely love how Gma not only came through, but TAUGHT you how to do it. We need more family unity like this. Too many mixed race children don't get to connect with both sides of their families or they get left out of the loop. With a grandma like this to guide her, she's got this. Those babies are gonna have such a good bond with their granny, AS THEY SHOULD!❤

Be very careful with African Salons! They braid way too tight and it rips the hair follicles out!
