Beautiful welds on that thing!! Great jobs! I’ve fabricating and welding since I was in high school (45 years old now) so I’m looking for ideas to design my own.
Thank you!! So many styles to choose from if your building your own. Best pet is you can take the bast options from every style pit and incorporate them into your own!!
@@smokeybeardco im probably looking to do a Franklin style pit. From all the videos I’ve seen on his pits they’re super easy to use and they give amazing bark. I like the idea of having a tall skinny stack with a slotted door on the firebox. Do you think making the firebox half the length of the actual cook chamber is too big?
@@dalerardon1687 ah shit, sorry I only build for my personal use. Maybe someday I’ll build a few to sell but the demand and price of steel will be big factors.
Super slick build! Nice to have a 7ga roller...I only have 10ga. How did you determine the throat openings for firebox discharge and cook chamber exhaust?
Yes it was nice to be able to roll the tubes here that’s for sure! I can’t exactly remember where I read what the openings should be but for this size smoker it needed 60sq inches (12”x5”) roughly. Somewhere on the ol interweb I read it haha. Thanks for watching!
Can you tell me about the hinge assembly for the front wheels that turn? I build mine with a 1/2" grade 8 bolt that connects the "axle" to the frame. I'm afraid the bolt is going to snap one when I pull the smoker out of its storage area. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations?
Hey Daniel, I used a 3/4” bolt and my frame is all 2” x 1/8” thick sq tube. I pulled mine up a couple stairs with some help and it’s all good. Bigger is definitely better if you have a heavy smoker.
Where did you source the wheel hub assemblies for those golf cart wheels? I have the wheels, but the hub assemblies are probably the most expensive part of my build. Looking for some cheap ones
I built them. Just used some 1” seamless pipe in the center, a 4” square piece of 1/4” plate, drilled the holes for the wheel studs, which are just 1/2” bolts. All the wheels are held on in the center by 1” bolts welded on the frame of the smoker. No bearings or anything. It gets moved literally like 6 feet a couple times a year so I didn’t need real hubs. Rolls just fine. I put some anti seize on the bolts when I slid the hubs on.
Super clean build man! Quick question though. Is there a reason you made holes in the pieces holding up the flat top over the firebox or was it just for aesthetics?
No, it was a flat sheet, 3/16” thick I purchased. I cut it to the size I wanted in a plate shear and rolled it in my 3 roll slip roller to make the chamber and the firebox.
@@smokeybeardco wow! sounds easier and cheaper to make than buying pipe.. you just rolled 3/16" sheet metal with a machine and you got a perfect diameter
@@92greenebeen it’s easier for me just cause I work in a shop with east access to the equipment for cutting and rolling it, I’ve never priced out propane pipes, and the nearest scrap yard is an hour and a half away from me. Thanks for checking out my video! Very much appreciated 🤘🏻
I have a metal slip roller in my shop. I rolled the cook chamber, firebox and that collector end on it. Looks similar to this. images.app.goo.gl/SBxpGcLmJq3ipueL7
That is some clean work my friend, those welds look like they were laid by a robot, awesome.
Haha awesome. Thanks so much. I have a few years of practice under my belt on making those welds.

Stacking Dimes!!!! Nice work
Lol!! Thank you! Gotta make it look as good as it cooks!
Nice build, can’t wait to see you fire it up
Thank you. Uploading a short finished/first fire video right away.
Great job guys! Love the big tires and wagon steering mechanism as well...
Thanks so much!
@@smokeybeardco So...How much to build me one?
@@dalerardon1687 ah shit, sorry I only build for my personal use. Maybe someday I’ll build a few to sell but the demand and price of steel will be big factors.
Awesome cooker my friend. Nothing better than making your own and create some great snack with it 🔥🎉👍
Thank you!! Can’t wait to fire it up!
Great looking pit and well done!
Thank you!!
Nice build! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much!
now that's some clean metalwork

Great Build and workmanship... love your log warmer on top of the firebox. Was curious about the lack of firebox (Inlet) dampers (or did I miss them).
Thanks! No inlet for air, I just keep the door open a bit during cooks, seems to flow quite well with the door cracked open about 1 1/2”.
Nice build brother. Fire it up.
Thanks! Check my newest vids of some recent cooks. 🤘🏻
Can you do a video on the wheel build?
I got an order for another smoker the other day so I’ll do a vid on the wheels. It’s extremely simple how I have these mounted. Thanks for watching!
@@smokeybeardco Super!!!...very much appreciated!!!
Dam fine build.
Wow. Great job
congratulations brother awesome beast !!!! what do you put on top paint to protect?
Thank you!
I used a high heat semi gloss clear coat spray paint for headers on it. Good up to 1600°F. VHT brand.
The look it’s awesome thanks keep rocking with your son!!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Do you have any videos on how you put the cart together? Axles, wheels used, etc.
No sorry, I don’t. I built the axels and the wheels are just take offs from a golf cart. Axels are just 3/4” bolts basically
Damn ya! Probably not the first time this guy turned on a mig welder.

Thanks so much. The holes are just for looks yup.
Nice, are you gonna do more builds?
Thanks, this spring I’m hoping to build a Santa Maria grill.
was this an 80 gallon propane tank?? or 80 callon compressor tank?? how thick is steel

How do you get the steel round like that for the vertical side of the collector?

Are you building these for purchase?
No sorry, this was just a personal build. Possibly with enough interest I may consider building a few. Thanks for watching!
How thick is the metal that you used?
The cook chamber and firebox are 3/16” thick
proper tires for the weight of that monster
Haha it might weigh more than the golf cart those wheels came off yup 😉
Do you sale them ?
No I don’t, sorry. Just build for myself at the moment.
Take my money please
My brother how much I need that
Thanks for checking out my video. They are $3000 Canadian for an 80 gallon size.
Not building any for a month or 2 yet.
