    I’ve always thought this was better than long tail because you don’t have to guess-timate how much tail to leave. ❤

    60 years ago when I was taught to Knit This was the Only Way to Cast On, a basic cast on and Everyone was a English Style knitter only it didn’t have a name back then. Anyone that knitted in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s casted on the same way, and knitted the same way, now Both techniques have a Name! 😊

      Funny how what was old is new again, just like hanging laundry outside,or using a basket for groceries. It makes me laugh the new generation think they have invented something we have never learned or heard of before. 🇨🇦

      My Danish grandma taught me 60 years ago - Continental, but with a stationary left needle.

      Just because information wasn’t made available to you, doesn’t mean it wasn’t there or didn’t exist. This is an ignorant world view - “it didn’t happen for me, so it didn’t happen” 😅

      This seems to be the usual way to cast on in the UK in the past. How I was taught (also a combination knitter) during the 70's. Also some knitting terms in older publications have now changed, mostly yf types.

    Yes, that’s the only way I was taught to knit 50/55 plus years ago. It didn’t have a name then either. I also knit with my long straight needle placed under my right armpit. I have since been told that is the Yorkshire way of knitting. As I am from Yorkshire I found that very interesting. Love these tips and trick you give us Stephen.

      I also learned with a stationary left needle held under my armpit. My Danish Grandmother taught me. Boy, could she knit fasr!

    I appreciate your videos! It's great that you offer different ways of casting on. No more guesstimating, no more running out of yarn three stitches before your needed stitch count.

    I WAS a die-hard long tail fan. However, unless a pattern requires some other cast on to create a certain edging, this is now and forever the only way I'll cast on!!

    Wow! This is such an easy cast on method compared to how I was taught. I've crocheted for about 30 years and just recently learned to knit. But, sometimes it's hard to figure out how to move the needles and yarn. Thanks for this tip!!

    When I work the Knitted Cast-on I go up one or two needle sizes to keep it from being too tight when I work the first row.

    Is the knitted cast on stretchy at all?

    • @StephenWest
      @StephenWest  Год назад +2

      A little bit but if you want it stretchier then you could cast on with one or two needle sizes larger and then switch to your smaller needle after the cast on is complete.
