Just noticed that 7 of the first 9 comments are requests for other biographies. No one wants to discuss this biography?
Yes, me.... I knew nothing about him until this biography..... congratulations from Spain 🇪🇸
Sir.... Ur content on this topic is thoroughly researched.... Thankyou
I love Frank Miller’s work. Have since the 80’s.
You probably could have mentioned that the guy is fucking batshit crazy tho. I mean it - no debate on this one.
They loved this one...they just want more. I loved this too. I like that you do more than just 'bad' guys.
Emily Dickenson and Earnest Hemingway would be my request
Nothing to do with bio. But, i met Frank Miller in 04 and, he's a very interesting guy. Great job on his bio.
So that's why sin city doesn't suck, Rob Rodriguez actually respects the source material.
Yeah man, a comic truly cant be adapted on the small or big screen, on the account of the limitations of reality. But sin city is probably the only true to the source comic book movie there is... OK watchmen too :d
@@ivanstoqnov5404 You're kidding me, right? You can easily do just as much in film as you can with comics.
@@FriezaDBZKing69 he’s never heard of practical or digital FX 😂
@@lazerduckzilla lmao! 🤣🤣🤣
Next comic person must be Alan Moore
Willie Preisig I would love that video
ABSOLUTELY!
YES!
Jack Kirby!
@@FriezaDBZKing69 I second that Jack Kirby suggestion.
Frank Miller went to my high school and wrote a comic strip for the school newspaper. I've got a few of the issues.
The real one with issues is Mr. Miller himself
Frank Miller certainly deserves all his success and is one of the greatest names of the industry. that said, he`s definitely not the father of noir comics, that title, if anyone can claim it, should go to the great Will Eisner. So much so that even Frank Miller himself tried (and unfortunately failed miserably) to adapt some of Eisner works. although an argument could be made that Eisner set the foundation to the Noir style itself in all mediums, making him the Grandfather of it... I dunno... im not a comic historian or a semiotics specialist...
Eisner had great art, very influential.
Good points about "the Spirit" but in fact Eisner created the Graphic Novel as a genre--coined the term even. The origins of "noir" go back to film, "film noir" as it were. And the roots of that genre can be traced to German Expressionist Cinema. Long before "the Spirit"
Noir was a progressive offshoot of German Expressionist art and you could see the influence in early Bat-Man comics. Especially one with the first Clayface Basil Karlo.
Yeah I would have thought the comic noir thing began even earlier with comics like The Shadow from back in the 40s.
I was a bit desapointed to not have a reference to Will Eisner in this biography :o Eisner is a god of comics from the 50s as well as Miller is a god of comics from the 90s. And it is known Millers admiration to Eisner. But it was a good surprise to have this Bio. :)
Speaking of Elektra, I was stationed in Germany in the 80s. Once a month, i'd take my ass to the military bookstore and buy every Spider-Man edition. It was during this time that I became a big fan of Daredevil because of Miller. The month in which Elektra was killed by Bullseye, I arrived at the bookstore early; however, all copies were sold out and I've never seen that edition.
PS: Mr Miller, you'd be very proud of Netflix's Daredevil. It's spot on and very much in time with your vision.
Did the Germans like comics?
@@ehrldawg I really don't know. I'd get my copies at the American bookstore.
My boi he’s not dead 😂😂
Franks work on Daredevil, Wolverine miniseries, and the Dark Knight books is pretty much untouchable
Lynn was the colourist, but the great Klaus Janson was the inker who gave his work life.
Love his work and so happy to see this.
How about one about Simon Whistler himself?
Truly inspiring! This is why Einstein said genious is 99%hard work and 1%talent.
One of the greatest storytellers ever and a true legend. Thank you for this one!
Frank Miller & Todd McFarlane are my favorite comic book illustrator. Thank you.
Found this video by wanting to watch a biography about frank. This seemed to be the only video made. Thank you for the work and time you spent to highlight this man and key points in his career. I especially feel blessed to know he wasn’t good at drawing at first and that many people made jokes about how bad he was. It’s a testament to hard work and dedication to what you love flourishing.
I like how y'all made the letters on the screen in comic book style ... Very creative.
Awesome episode. Alan Turing soon?
I'm all about this one.
This is one of the best Biographics I have seen.
One of the coolest Biographics videos yet. Thanks guys.
Between your Bio-Graphics and Comic-Book Girl 19's Greater Creator someone could do a screenplay off of the research you both did on Frank Miller.
You glossed over three things... 1) The controversial 'All Star Batman' comic series for DC.... 2) His turn as film director for 'The Spirit' movie... and 3) The studio pulling the plug on his 'Buck Rodgers' film project... All that being said, I would greatly appreciate a Bio on Will Eisner please.
I agree
One of favourite episodes so far. Well done! Keep them coming.
A man of passion, creativity, and hard work. Thank you.
I shared this with my Facebook comic book group. Really enjoyed it.
Brilliant! Video. When I saw what the topic was I was worried it wasnt going to be that interesting, but that is one of the best in months! Superb video!
thanks for not making your titles clickbait. a compliment i can rarely give sadly enough.
Please can you do one on charles bukowski
Nice biography! I'm a Frank Miller fan and found this to be very informative. Please do more biographies on artists and scientists, they represent the best of mankind
This was a good one. Someone who I knew very little about yet led an exciting and influential life. Great video.
Wow!!! Extrmeley motivating story. Captured super well as always! Miller is what happens when one holds their ground.
Really respect his artistic integrity as well. Other artists should really look at this within themselves. Too many get too comfortable being told how to do their thing.
Interesting video, never been one for comics, but truly inspirational.
Love Frank Miller, an amazing artist and storyteller. Great bio.
I was no expecting to see something this inspiring today. I'm not really a comic guy but now I want to check his stuff out
Woah, this is an unexpected one. It's so cool to see his biography here !
Great job Simon.
Before that Bio i didn't know who Frank is, but i click because i watch all yours brilliants videos.
I have idea for next bio, you should do Bobby Sands.
Because you can't fined any good bio about him and i know your would be great one.
Keep doing a great job, greetings from Slovenia.
I say this in all of your lovely biographic videos but keep it up I love these videos and still waiting and hoping for a sir Terry Pratchett video
This was awesome! Great video
You've gotta do Alan Moore! It's so interesting how he became an occultist and magician
I used to always look at Norman Rockwell paintings while my grandfather and I talked for hours at Hometown Buffet in Vacaville before it closed down. I miss the Coffee Tree too.
Frank Miller is GOD, this may be my second favorite of your bios so far, Teddy is always number 1. I never knew he struggled so much, it is really humbling.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING as usual... Simon, why do you live in the Czech republic ? Is it for their beer ?
Thank you for this portayal of Frank Miller. It's inspiring. He deserves immense respect for his contribution to the comic industry. Great job. 👏👏👏👏
One of the best one Simom, great job.
Awesome video! Frank Miller did it the Old School way, with determination and a lot of hard work. The man paid his dues.
Great video simon,
i'm not going to bug you with a request because i lke to watch all the videos you do in order while im eating, writing my books or just because
Wow, never knew I needed to know more about Frank Miller until I watched this!
Real lesson on perseverance 🔥
I Really Enjoyed that one.
I Love Frank Millers Stuff.
Can you do Alan Moore Next?
Johnny Cash please
Good video but a shame you didn't mention the controversial Holy Terror or DK2
Or the Spirit movie.
This was a real treat . Marv is my favorite of his sin city characters. Thanks
Thank you for this! So inspiring.😍
Charlie Cox really has done an outstanding job in many regard for the Netflix DAREDEVIL series... though the same can't be said for all of the rest of the cast...
I love Frank Miller , great work on this Bio ! His art is highly influential on me and others
Thanks for this. I have heard of Frank Miller but didn't know much about him. I used to read comics as a kid, mainly to annoy by brother because my mom made him share. I read anything I could get my hands on Stephen King and Dean Koontz and when I read Daredevil it was like I was reading Dean Koontz with all the angst and conflicted feelings of right and wrong that you just didn't get from Spiderman and Xmen. I always remember Daredevil as a favorite. Now knowing what drove Miller it adds an extra layer. So thank you for that
Thanks for that one! All anyone ever seems to talk about is Stan Lee, so it was really nice to learn about a different comic book guy. 😊
Thank you for this. This was very interesting.
Awesome video!
Great video. I totally enjoyed it. 👍✌️
Was watching a Batman:TAS info video when the notification for this popped up. Coincidence?!?
No way.
Always thought of Frank's visual style like a cross between Kirby & Kubert.
@@Biographics Feels like a Phillip K. Dick moment.🤯
@Alex & Rah yes. It has devolved but he still creates. Will he still build on his legacy with something akin to DKR or Sin City? Time will tell.
My love knows so much about Comic Books and read so many in the hospital as a child and kept up.
Thank you for this.
Great video!
Is amazing! Is always good to know more of people that did what they love and succeed doing it.
I love your show. Would you ever do a Biographics on Tom Waits?
Well done!
This is very inspiring, thank you :)
This was awesome. Hirihiko araki would be great to show as well he's very influential.
Miller's collaborations with Bill Sienkiewicz are some of my favorite books of all time.
Yes! Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz in Daredevil and Electra comics and graphic novels was brilliant!!
I remember pouring over those when I was a teenager. Influenced me to want to make my own comics! 30 years later I finally published my first illustrated novel (not quite a comic book but comic style drawings) last year 2019 on amazon. Called Mekonnen: The Warrior of Light.
I'll never forget your "Top Ten worst moments in DC Comics" video.
Another great video! Alan moore or jack kirby would be awesome
These are so awesome.
Great biography. Frank Miller's takes on Batman and Daredevil are one of the darkest and most grittiest portrayals of these beloved characters. He is my third favorite comic book writer. The second is of course Jeph Loeb (Batman: Hush). Please make a video on my number one favorite comic book author: Alan Moore. Please do put emphasis on Watchmen (both the legendary graphic novel and its underrated adaptation). Thank you.
It's MIller Time again!
The Phantom of the Paradise At4w anyone?
It's Miller Time
Patrik Öhrström At4w anyone hmmm?
Brilliant video love frank miller I’ve read the dark night returns countless times and sin city keep up the gwd work
Really interesting & GREAT choice for a bio😎👍 Thanks All😁
I would love to see biographics videos on videogame developers. A video about Hideo Kojima springs to mind.
Frank Miller is the reason I'm a Batman fan today. I read Dark Knight Returns at 11 years old and fell in love with the dark, gritty style and consume as much of that material in comics as I possibly can.
He’s the reason I love “Daredevil”!
Please do the Rev Ian Paisley!
Also, great video as always!
No mention of Give Me Liberty??? Arguable his best work.
I reccomend you do a video about Mad Jack Churchill, the man who fought with a sword and longbow in ww2.
Well done. I like the way comic book characters, and real people have all sorts of crazy silly and funny stuff going on. Cheers to you all keep fighting the dark.🤓👋
Love the tenacity and refusal to accept failure
Do Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko next
What a remarkable man. Perservent ,valued his talent and perfected it.
Great video, can we get Charles Bukowsky biography?
Aside from Batman, Daredevil, Sin city and 300.. Frank Miller also drew the very first Wolverine 4 issue solo mini series with Chris Claremont as writer.. helping give Wolverine more depth to his character
Excellent if brief review. Frank Miller is not only one the greatest modern comic authors but also a very competent movie script author (Robocop 2...) and a profound believer in the freedom of speech within comics (supporter of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund). That being said, a lot of other comic authors, illustrators and artists should be featured here.
0:45 - Chapter 1 - Early life & career
7:30 - Chapter 2 - Marvel comic
9:55 - Chapter 3 - DC Comics
12:20 - Chapter 4 - Life in tinsel town
All-Star Batman & Robin..... Never forget, never forgive.
great video about Frank Miller can you do one on John Romita Sr and his son John Romita Jr next that would be awesome to see thanks for the great content
Very cool. Thanks!
As someone who reads comic books. This is great.
Uhhhh....is that Jim Steranko and Steve Ditko I hear laughing in that shadowy corner over there?
What a great story. I've never been into comics but I'm a big fan of the Sin City movie which I happened to just come across, as well as the Batman 2008 series.
The 2008 movie wasn't an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. The film drew a few ideas from it, as well as some other Batman stories, such as The Killing Joke, but it has its own self-sufficient story.
I like this Bio. Next Bio should be Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
for anyone interested there is a really good full length doc about DKR with interviews with miller, janson and grant morrison on youtube. hardly any views, cant remember the title but a keyword search should bring it up
I'm lucky enough to have held on to all my FM Daredevil comics of the 80s
You gonna do Alan Moore?
I'm a big fan of Bio Graphics. I've always been interested in the "backstories" of famous, non-famous, and infamous people. I prefer stories without the ash and trash and, you sir, deliver in spades.
