  • Pin holes are a pesky issue in ceramics, largely because multiple glaze defects are often called pinholes. The gang talk about the myriad issues with pinholes, and if you can fix them on an already fired pot. They also discuss why commercial glazes have wide firing ranges. I learned (hopefully correctly) that pinholes come from off-gasing during the firing, the bubbles come through the glaze and the glaze doesn't have time/heat to heal over.
A glaze that occasionally has pinholes could just be from a bad glaze application. I will say that I don't typically have that issue with my mixed glazes, usually from commercial glazes.
