    The rubber goes against the pool wall and the cork is a friction ring so the nut presses the rubber evenly.

      Rubber first then cork 100%. The cork is to prevent the soft rubber from twisting as you tighten the large nut. The Manufacturers instructions are WRONG

    Years ago, I had professional installers install my 18' x 33' above ground pool. A few years later, I started seeing leaking from the bottom of my pool, that was perpendicular to my return fitting. But I couldn't tell exactly where it was leaking from. So I tried to change the gaskets on my return fitting. When I went to get the gaskets, a guy at the pool store told me the cork gasket went on the inside of the pool, between the liner and the inside pool wall. I guess that explained why I couldn't see my cork gasket. But I never saw any video of anybody installing the cork gasket that way, including your video. A lot of the videos don't include installing the cork gasket at all. So, thinking there probably wasn't a cork gasket connected to my pool return fitting to beginning with, I tried installing the new gaskets without the cork gasket, but the pool kept leaking from the bottom.
    I still wasn't sure if the professional installers put a cork gasket behind the liner, and I didn't want to tear the liner to find out. When I finally changed the pool liner, I discovered the installers did put a cork gasket behind the liner after all, up against the inside pool wall, and it was corroding, which must have been the cause of that leak. So that pool store guy was right, but I think most people, including other installers, don't even use the cork gasket, probably because most people don't want to risk tearing the liner to remove that old cork gasket, the same reason I didn't want to risk tearing mine, plus the problem of them corroding, and causing leaks in the first place.
    I think most people get away with not using the cork gasket at all, like I've seen in other videos. Although the installers who installed my pool probably installed the cork gasket right, like I said, removing the old cork gasket from behind the liner probably feels too risky for the average pool owner. especially after it gets old and corroded like mine was.
    But if you installed the cork gasket the way you did on your video, and you're not having any problems, then I may wound up installing my cork gasket the way you did, if I decided to use it.

      if you look at this video from the manufacturer the cork is not the last gasket to go on. see video here. ruclips.net/video/eflHgWGq7yQ/видео.html I too thought the same thing but the manufacturer shows it going against the pool wall and then rubber gasket over. I tried to pu the cork gasket on last and wound up ripping it as I applied too much pressure to the cork gasket. Since I had the assembly already together and water filled and leaking I was able to unscrew the plastic nut remote the cork gasket I ripped pull back on the rubber gasket and installed silicone on the rubber gasket that goes to the wall. Then put the rubber gasket on and tightened up the plastic nut. So far not leaking. Will let it dry and see how it goes. I have the cut off valve so no water is dripping past the valve but it was coming out of the opening where the gaskets were but not much surprisingly. You would have thought it was pouring out.

    While I really appreciate the video I have seen now 4 video's with each one showing a different way to install the gaskets, two of them showing putting a gasket between the liner and the pool wall. It has been a number of years since I installed the inlet and wanted to get a good video of this. No luck. I called my local pool place and they told me that the inside piece gets a rubber gasket and gets installed through the liner, then the cork piece goes in on the outside of the wall and then the rubber gasket again and the plastic nut. So going with that method as I believe that is how the original piece was put together. I tried to find a video from a place that manufactures these pieces and also no luck. If any one would have had a good video I figured the one that manufactures the piece would be best.

    Hi there,
    we have a steel pool dug into the ground, about 15 years old. Changed the vinyl last year, all good. This year, it seems I cannot get the return valve sealed, I get a leak between the main body of the valve and the threaded piece connecting to a 38mm flexi hose.. I already replaced the whole set 3 times (all identical to the one that worked fine for 15 years), still, I get a leak. The issue is this all sits in an 8" by 8" hole (give or take) in the ground and hard to get to. The seals between front plate and vinyl, vinyl and steel and steel and tightening screw seem ok, it looks like the theread between the two whit plastic pieces. My plumber gave my some gooey stugff to paint on, let it dry in and then install, still leaks. all parts brand new (3rd set), what am I missing?

    I'm in process of trying to replace my return fitting. Is the cork gasket that crucial? I was suspecting my leak was between the pool wall and the liner inside the pool. Leak only happened when the pump/filter were running. Also I've drained the pool much as I could but the water line is still not totally under the return. How do I drain the pool a little more below that? I'd used my crawly cleaner on the bottom with the water going through my filter,etc. Still......I can't get the water to drain completely under the return and skimmer level?

    Your wrong on the order of the gaskets. The two rubber ones touch the pool metal wall, one inside one outside. The cork gasket goes on last from outside before the nut goes on. The cork gasket prevents the nut from binding on the rubber gasket.

  • @jaymoto8743

    Some shady guy glued on the nut to the fitting, i mean the nut is literally bonded to the fitting all around. Ithink he applied pvc pipe glue to the fitting instead just using plumbers tape. Ive broken quite a bit of the plastic fitting with sharp pliers. Still does not budge. Started using a dremel to cut through the plastic. But its very slow. Been working on it for 2 weeks. Cant fill up pool all the way up. Cant run pump. This is hell.

      Your way is how the professionals installed mine when I first got my pool. The problem is, that cork gasket between the inside pool wall and the liner will corrode, causing a leak. You'll just notice one day, that the bottom edge of your pool directly below the jet return, always staying a little soggy. And you won't know exactly what's causing it, especially when you're new to pools, and don't even know the cork gasket is there, since it's behind the liner. I tried buying new jet return gasket sets, and even replacing the entire jet return, and still couldn't find where the leak was coming from. Plus like everybody else, I had no idea what to do with new cork gaskets that came with these new jet return gasket sets. That's probably why so many people on youtube don't even use a cork gasket when installing the jet fitting. But your way is the correct way. A guy who worked in a pool store explained your way to me a few years after I got my pool, when this leaking problem first started. Your way prevents the liner from stretching along with the plastic nuts, when you tighten those nuts. I made this mistake numerous times as well. It's sort of a catch 22 situation.
      But it my case the blue butterfly gasket made a big difference. The one I had was White, and it came with a new jet return I bought a few years ago. I have a very hard time finding where to buy these jet return butterfly gasketsy separately.

  • @Putrid186
    @Putrid186 Год назад

    no. no. NO. Cork washer does NOT go against the pool liner. that does not have the watertight properties of the rubber/silicone gasket. it's onlypurpose is to prevent damage to the actual watertight gasket as the nut is being screwed on. As you twist, the cork washer allows the plastic nut to sliiide over the surface; something the rubber gasket won't allow. if you had no cork washer, the plastic would contort the rubber washer and potentially cause a problem. But putting the cork gasket against the pool liner is even dumber. This is why your pool leaks.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair

      The instructions on the package must have been wrong then, because that is how the provided instructions said to assemble it.

    • @selflessman
      @selflessman 2 месяца назад

      The problem is, the instructions say to install the cork washer this wrong way (against the inside pool wall and the outside of the liner). I heard a guy at the pool store say to install the cork washer this was as well. But the problem is, it causes leaks like you said. That's why I had to go to the pool store guy in the first place.
