1 screw for lock, 1 screw for handle, 7 screws around door card (8th screw behind handle), easier to take door card off with window down, instead of cutting oem plug off make a patch loom, 6"-6.5" fit in doors
You left the 2 ohm tweeters at the top of the dash on either side connected? Either disconnect them or use a component style mid range / tweeter combo.!
I followed what you said and showed, but the only thing that I can’t get right, is the lock on the doors. The plastic button on the door card doesn’t slide correctly with the lock mechanism. Any thoughts?
Hi Jon-Michael, glad the video helped! If I have understood you are referring to the red clip that attaches the door lock cap to the threaded rod of the lock (the part that moves up and down)? From memory the height of this was adjustable and may not be clipping into your cap properly. My advice would be to make sure you have the lock in the "unlocked" position (up), pull the red clip out from the lock cap, place the cap over the rod to the unlocked height, then press the red clip back into place. Hope this helps!
Make sure you pop out the red clip. just so it frees up. Slide the button down the threaded rod, the red clip in the out position will then stop the button going down. Clip it in at this position, it is the right height. Note that VYs do not have the hole at the bottom of the red clip to help unclip it, on VZ just lifting the button slightly you can hook out the red clip, which disengages the button. Use a small jewelers screw driver or something like that to carefully unclip on VY. Think Holden used to just rip the buttons out and replace the red clip.
The speakers your putting in arnt that much better than the stocks. The stocks would have a better bottom end response. I would say putting in splits would be a upgrade not el cheap o 2 ways.
are you sure the stock ones don't really perform that well and I just brought a pair of these after listening to them at auto barn and they sounded a lot better
Did you have any issues with the black and red plastic piece thats for the locks you removed, and how did you avoid scratching the handles with the flat head? After i put my door lock interior bits on they misalign after a lock/unlock not sure what to do
Hi Mate, I didn't have any issue with the locks at all. The red tab should pop out and allow you to adjust the height based on how high it is sitting when you clip it back into the black piece. As for the door handles I just used a very skinny tipped flat screwdriver and got very minimal, if any, scratching. Hope this helps!
The 6" speakers fit perfectly. I think 6.5 would also probably fit but it may require the speaker housing to be modified. I haven't tried or read anywhere that 6.5 would fit though so I'd stuck to 6" to be safe :)
You forgot to mention the back doors taking them off the child lock things break right away when you try to unclip them , holy shit their so brittle haha
I found the 6" speakers fitted perfectly with no problems. I haven't tried 6.5" but there may be enough space, however, you may need to modify the plastic mount in the door slightly to make them work.
The tweeter is under the dash, there is a complete split from the tweeter and sub. Look on your dash there are grills near either end, you have no idea what you are doing do you
Thanks for the comment Brett, always keen to learn something new. I'm not aware of any additional speakers under the dash. I'd greatly appreciate if you could provide some reference material to help me out on this one.
I hear what you’re saying. Be razor sharp on servicing and you’ll be ok. Hey, in another 10 years they may be rarer than LS1’s and may be a gold mine, who knows?

You will be able to crank some divide and multiply with the boys and show off them pipe's! Well done Ed, we love your work mate!
This was the easiest video to follow, thanks! I'm about to attempt the install of all 4 speakers in my VY.
Glad it helped! Good luck with the install.
Keen to hear how it goes! :)
Hit a snag haha
Not sure what clips into where haha
@@alannahprow1623 Oh no haha - With the door or the speakers themself?
All good, just doing the wiring now!
Definitely gonna need more Car tip/tutorial videos loved it and got mine installed DIY thank you!
Thanks mate, really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed - I'll have to add a few more car projects to the list 😁
You're a crack up. Enjoyed the video
Haha thanks, glad you enjoyed! :)
Thanks this has been helpful, going to attempt putting new speakers in tomorrow 😃
You can also put 6x9s in the rear parcel shelf and buy grills that sit above them after cutting the trim.

You’ve made this so simple thank you
You reckon these cars a good for a first car 2020?
Yes look after them well and get them regularly serviced treat well as they aint no burnout car.
those red tabs in the lock latch you can buy from Holden dealers for around a buck each by the way
@@craigmiddlemiss6917 yes . Of course now they are all rebranding
Does your headunit handle them well or are they hooked up to a amp?

*next day/2.5 months later 😁
...then the 6 months it took to actually edit and upload 😅 I'll get better I swear!
That was awesome mate, well done ay.😂
Now add butyl deadening to the inside of the door skins...
Make them sound twice as good

You can get speaker wire adapters chopping wires are big mistake in car audio
Nice great video and interesting keep it up keen to see more
Thanks mate!
Those speakers are actually 6.5 or are at least listed as 6.5, picked up the same pair today keen to see what it sounds like

You have to put the door knobs on while the red thing is still popped out, or you will fuck up the thread which keeps them into place
Hey, just curious if this is the same for a VX 2001 COMMODORE, because it looks very similar
Yeah VT - VZ models are all the same car under the plastic :).
So is the back doors 6” inch as well?
Hi John, correct 6" all round :)
Engineer In The Making
Thanks, just watched it and I love the vid bro. Can a 6.5 fit? Or will there have to be modifications on the panels?

Thanks mate! Glad I could help :)
I recently bought a VZ Calais and expected a half decent stereo. It sounds like absolute ball sweat. Hugely disappointed. Definitely need to invest.
I enjoyed this
do vy have 6’ or can install 6.5’

All doors have 6 inch speakers
Rear shelf can fit 6x9’s in flush
There’s a plate either side with spot welds on it that you have to punch out
@@engineerinthemaking1 i cant find 6 inch speakers anywhere no more
very nice!
If you're caught working at night use a head lamp.
Great advice! I'll definitely be doing this next time instead of/in conjunction with the flood light. Cheers
Or a headlight ; )
🙏
Can't you just remove the speaker covers

Nothing a little epoxy can’t fix 🤣
Except the VZ was the first of the rubbish V6 AlloyTec motors.
Ticking time bombs. Friends don't let friends buy Alloytec's. 👎
😂😂😂
