    Correction- these are not the "super low profile" straps.

    I did this to my issued ruck. It improves the comfort by a lot. Also you don't have to worry about it breaking in the middle of a long field op.

    I made a plate for the top of my Alice Frame duplicating the mount holes for the original filbe shoulder harness utilizing it and bought the strap buckles they first put out to add to the plastic frame utilizing it to the Alice Frame to attach my shoulder straps. I didn't want to give up the quick release shoulder straps.

      Grunt Gear Review Instead of zip ties I’m going to rig up some short lengths of 1/2” webbing with some ITW buckles, if that doesn’t work use some 550 cord. Keep up the good work man and stay safe.

    Do the zip ties hold up good? Also with mine I tighten the shoulder straps at the top where it goes past the bar about an inch it helped with rubbing the neck for me. I am gona try your way with the iso mat an see how I like it. Do you know what the straps on the bottom of the pack are called?

      I have never had one of these zipties break and I've put a good number of miles on this set up as well as the pack has been tossed around during travel and what not. And sorry i don't have a name for those straps specifically, They should come with the FILBE pack.

      Awesome video- the 2:40 mark is really, especially insightful. And surplus websites seem to call those two straps the "lower compression straps" or the "sleeping bag straps". They're part of the issue pack but for whatever reason they aren't always included with surplus bags- especially unassembled, piecemeal surplus stuff. These guys probably enjoy charging people an extra $15 or $20 for the straps so they consider it a separate part. Decent deal I guess if you have one of them rip or break though and just need a quick replacement.

    Question, Brother.....
    Do or Did you have any "creaking" from the shoulder straps at the top of the frame, where they loop around the frame and back to the shoulder strap ???
    If so, how did you get rid of it (if you did) ???
    Thank you in advance.

    • @hellcatdave1
      @hellcatdave1 2 года назад +3

      It's gonna creak a little. I think it's just the webbing stretching a lil bit. Does it on my Tac Tailor MALICE frame too. Never found a way to get rid of it.

      Add oil. It should prevent friction. I would try silicone oil. I am assuming its not metal bending.

    • @thefucrew9865
      @thefucrew9865 Год назад

      @@gabriels5105, it isn't the metal.
      It is the straps.
      The ones that attach the shoulder straps to the top of the frame.
      Especially, with weight in the pack

    • @gabriels5105

    how does that tac tailor kidney pad fit around your plate carrier? My current setup has the pad resting on the edge of my PC no matter how i adjust it.

    • @gruntgearreview6490
      @gruntgearreview6490  Год назад

      It sits under the plate as it should. Try putting your PC on, and then lay down on your back, into your pack frame, and strap in that way

    I’m a soldier not a marine, but now I want to get a FILBE system because they’re set up is better then our molle stuff, and it’s even better that I can just use my old Alice pack’s frame on it because the plastic ones are so annoying.

    • @gruntgearreview6490
      @gruntgearreview6490  2 года назад +1

      The FILBE packs work but they aren't my favorite thing in the world. The side panels pretty much avoid the side synching straps so you just kinda end up with loose MOLLE panels with whatever pouches you've attached.

    Just curious, why did you attach the ruck to the frame with zip ties vs. Paracord? In the past I've had zip ties break in cold weather under heavy strain. Just wondering.

    • @gruntgearreview6490
      @gruntgearreview6490  2 года назад +2

      That's a very valid argument, to be honest I haven't run into the issue. Could also depend on exactly what ziptie. 550 would work just fine

  • @Elvydnir
    @Elvydnir 3 года назад

    I got a really beaten up FILBE pack which was missing some of the straps you connected to the frame with zip ties, would it work if I used some of the PALS webbing to tighten it to the frame with zip ties?

    • @gruntgearreview6490
      @gruntgearreview6490  3 года назад +1

      If I am picturing what you are asking correctly, I suppose it would but it would be a janky fitment. The zip tied parts aren't mandatory, it will work without.

    Can you use any shoulder straps for this? Also this doesn't allow you to use shoulder lifter straps - so doesn't the weight goes into your shoulders more?

    • @gruntgearreview6490
      @gruntgearreview6490  4 года назад +2

      So I have seen people use the issued shoulder strap harness with an ALICE frame if that is what you mean. Any ALICE pack straps will work with this setup. Besides that, as long as there is a way for the straps to mount to the frame, I don't see why not. If you have something specific I can do some research and get you an answer.
      As for the lifter straps, if the Shoulder Straps come with Lifter Straps, it should work all the same. The way I look at it, weight has to go somewhere (either shoulders or hips). With this setup, I am able to switch the weight from my shoulders to my hips as needed.
      I hope this helps, if not, I will gladly discuss further.

    the best way to modify the frame is to add two more vertical 1 inch by eighth of an inch aluminum straps and two lateral wanted inch lateral straps and rivet them on and you could use the original shoulder harness which is what I did and it is perfect by adding two additional vertical aluminum 1 inch by 1/8 in straps and two lateral 1 inch by 1/8 straps you will have the same attachments for the body harness as the Down East 606 frame which will be a 100 times stronger than the original frame and you will be able to use the load lifter straps
