This guy is nuts. I have been an avid sailor for decades and the LAST place you want to be in a storm like this is in a port like Tampa. Depending on the size of the boat, he might be able to survive it if he were miles off shore where the waves are not cresting, your boat can't be picked up and tossed into a building, and the length of the ocean waves gives you a chance to ride up and over them if you are lucky. But having been caught in storms smaller than this, I would recommend being as far inland as possible.
The people who shelter in place probably could not afford to go to a price gouging hotel, too old to travel far, or were afraid of having their property get looted. Hopefully they all make it through.

Fires caused by flooding from salt water are rare, except in situations like this. I’d never have a full electrical vehicle if I lived in Florida, not that I’d live there ever.
