Welcome back to D-Koi TV, koi enthusiasts! In today's episode, we take on an exciting pro-ject to elevate the beauty and functionality of our Stunning UK koi pond. Join us as we clad our pond with Beautiful Red Cedar wood and upgrade our drum filter with a brand-new UV light bulb.
    Project Highlights:
🔨 Cladding with Red Cedar: Watch us transform the aesthetics of our koi pond by clad-ding it with beautiful red cedar. We'll walk you through the entire process, with some tips on installing battens the easy way.
💡 Installing a New UV Light Bulb: Learn the importance of UV light in maintaining clear and healthy water for our koi fish.
Why Red Cedar? Red cedar is not only visually stunning with its rich, warm tones, but it's also durable and resistant to moisture and decay. This makes it the perfect choice for an out-door pond setting, enhancing both beauty and longevity.
Benefits of UV Light in a Koi Pond: UV lights are essential in koi ponds as they help in controlling algae growth and maintaining crystal clear water. Replacing the bulb regularly ensures optimal performance, keeping our koi healthy and happy.

The ponds looking great and definitely a bit different from all the rendered ponds we see on youtube . I fit western red cedar on a regular basis and it really needs a nice air gap behind to aid even expansion front and back ,usually achieved with a counter batten behind the horizontals . You may get some cupping in the boards but the main issue i see is the bottom batten being on or very close to the deck with the bottom of the cedar at the same height . That will hold water keeping the bottom of the boards wet and making them discolour very quickly and even rot out . This is why there is always a gap at the bottom of ceder builds to avoid capillary action and even rain splashes . In this case to achive the look , I'd probably have stopped the cladding 25-50mm up from the deck and used a heavily oiled (both sides ) sacrificial base board with a 10mm gap under chamfered on top to shed rain water . Hate to put a downer on the final touches but could be put right before it really costs you to replace it all down the line

Thanks Gary, the two bottom drains in the pond are aerated. They have a 4 inch waste line pulling from the pond and a 1 inch air line feeding to the drain with an air diffuser on top. If you google spindrifter bottom drains that's what I used.
