- The I.E.M.A. collective tapes are a series of 8 compilation albums of electronic music released through the International Electronic Music Association, an independent label created in 1979 by James E. Finch. The last 2 tapes in the series were lost in an apartment accident.
Progressive Electronic / Ambient / Drone / Known Drill.
Below is the Anvil Creations writeup for this album, taken from its Bandcamp page:
"We finally come to the end of my involvement in the International Electronic Music Association's Group Tape Project. Tape #6 was the last collective album that I put together; I believe Jim Finch made two more, but the tapes #7 and #8 were lost in an apartment accident years ago.
This collection of music features tracks from Chris Gross, Peter Kaminski, Dave Butler, Lauri Paisley, Dave Lunt (from Nightcrawlers fame) and myself (Ken Moore). I know Dave Lunt has been active still, but the only other person I have had contact with in the last few years is Chris Gross.
This was certainly an exciting time during the early 1980s, if not a very trying time for myself personally. Having gotten involved in a progressive rock band, my interests became divided and my contributions to the IEMA swiftly dropped off.
It is my sincere desire that many people will listen and download these early recordings (made from the original cassette tapes themselves). It was an adventurous time for all of us, and the beginning of a lifelong commitment to music for others. Enjoy!"
If anyone affiliated with this music wishes for me to take it down, please let me know. Thank you :]
Loving this very much!
Wow, what a tape! And the first track - apologies if it's out of context but I didn't see a track list here so I don't know even its name, which could give me a tip about what it is about - gave me strong "Mars" vibes ("The Planets" by Gustav Holst) and especially, strong DEFCON (2006 game) vibes relating to the onset of tension as the scenario gradually and inexorably deteriorates from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 1.
Awesome!
now THIS is podracing!
seriously this first track is incredible, i am not even done with it and i love it. it's like Joy Division by way of synthesizer, mellotron, and nuclear war. or if Kraftwerk were a Belgian coldwave act. so psyched for the rest of this now!
good one +
