Find out about a surprising cause of unexplained sinus congestion and snoring. The cause of chronic nasal congestion could be hiding in your pillow!

    1:10 Rhinitis
1:35 How do I know if my pillow is causing my sinus congestion?
2:07 Easy remedy for sinus congestion
Today, we’re going to talk about one of the hidden causes of chronic sinus congestion. Microorganisms in your pillow could be causing sinus pressure, nasal congestion, difficulty breathing, and snoring!
The average pillow has 7000 spores of 4 to 16 different types of fungus, especially if your pillow is made of synthetic material.
The fungus found in your pillow is a frequent cause of rhinitis, or inflammation of the sinuses. The fungus feeds on nitrogen and dead skin-and can affect the respiratory system.
Fungus spores are activated by moisture, so your sweat, drool, and wet hair intensify the problem. Spores can even grow roots into the fibers of your pillow.
Here are 4 signs that fungus in your pillow may be causing sinus congestion:
    1. Discoloration on the pillow
    2. Moisture on the pillow
    3. Odors from the pillow
    4. Sudden change in mucus membranes (difficulty breathing, stuffy nose)
To solve this problem, wash your pillow at least once monthly and ensure it’s completely dried. It’s also essential to clean your pillowcase at least once per week. Your pillow won’t last forever, so be sure to replace it once yearly.

My sinusitis was caused by having a job where I have to go out in sub-zero weather to shovel snow and repair broken items. Now my nose is like a water fountain if I breathe in cold, damp air, super dry air is downright painful, and my sinuses get inflamed if I look at my nose funny. My late uncle developed the same problem after being put on oxygen when he was in the hospital several years ago. Dirty pillows can affect sensitive people, but it's only one of many factors.

Decades ago, I lived in W. Germany.. yep, before the wall came down. They have divine, huge square feather pillows.. and comforters. A few times a year this truck would come through town. It had some sort of air cleaning system where they emptied the cases.. gave them a wash and dry and refilled them with freshly blown around with I think Ozone to freshen them right up. Even in the 80s, it wasn't cheap but they did a fantastic job.. even sewed seams back up that they opened to remove the feathers/down.

I finally got the right ENT doctor. I had surgery and they found a ball of fungus far back in my nasal cavity - that had built a inpenetrable fortress. This problem is more common in areas where it is humid. I got it in North Carolina and it got worse in Florida. The doctor said it is more common than people would think, but still somewhat rare. If you have a persistent sinus problem, it could be a fungus.

    Question tho:
Are down filled pillows good for resistance to this stuff and for washing?
If not; what’s a good COMFORTABLE pillow recommendation?

Thanks Dr Berg, I moved my bedroom around and was amazed at state of my pillow I do wash them but obviously not enough as I live in a council rented home uk, which has damp and mould. So I realise this may get me worse but more washing of my pillows. In some best get rid. I had pillows for years and that was normal. Not now we have money things are in reach to buy. I have a washer that washes double quilts, so cleaner covers as well. Only me but i knew i needed to have ability to clean quilts as well. Many thanks Love bernadette xoxox cats xoxox ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
