Oh, nice! At last Illium! Indeed, Illium is too unique for Maple Story. You either love playing him or hate him. It also doesn't help that he was in a very rough spot for the first few years after release. So even now that he is quite good, the damage was already done. For me, he really started "clicking" when I reached 4th job. He felt a bit too clunky before that. After it, I started to enjoy him.
I felt that the entire combat system for that job just felt awful and really hard to get use too I don't know if It was just me not giving it much of a chance but the way you have to set up objects and can only hit those objects to do damage to monsters just felt so out of place for maplestory especially when it comes to grinding out levels I feel it's going to be really hard to get use to
8 months later, did him for link skill. And I still agree, he's still clunky. You either love his kits or hate it. But he does absolutely do damage. Compared to when I did hoyoung/phantom/even da, illium was consistently wiping everything with ease. N.Zakum died in 1 fucking burst. None of them did this.
Unironically I love this series. It made me choose this class to hyper burn. I was always fond of classes that had that clunky underdog feel. It was the same way when I choose Hayato as my main back when they had 4 lines for they're main attack. Keep it up because I'm going to keek playing these weird classes.
I absolutely adored playing Illium, but had to shaft him for fire/poison simply because it does get tiring having to micromanage everything in a grindy game like Maplestory. And I played him before the Lucent Brand (Magic Guard) rework and it was TORTURE trying to survive and spam potions and the orb skill. But I will forever keep this class in my heart for its uniqueness.
261 illium here been playing the class since release i never personally had the ping issue when it was host based but its much better now crystal igntion being reduced in duration but damage being significantly increased is amazing as its a wonderful bossing tool if your training with the class placing 2 extra batteries close by and twitching left and right is so much fun and map clearing potential since the class has huge AoE style effects almost any map can be used to optimally train just takes a bit of troubleshooting and when bossing set up is a bit of a start up but the dps is well worth it consuming the 2 other batteries before going into Wing of glory and than using crystal ignition class has its own healing skill and with flash crystal battery you can have "wings mode" up twice, having vortex wings, longinus zone and crystalline bulwark are amazing 3 s 1 being a full party one for 10 seconds The class mobs amazingly well and when it comes to bossing it can handle its own and be a mix of like a off hand dps and support role
Illium underpowered plz buff _All he has_ is - the most precise movement in the game with his flight in addition to being able to teleport - 20 sec flight with superstance about 1/3 of the time (40sec~ to charge from 0) - 3 i-frames, one is a 10sec party - some of the laziest grinding since you can just place orbs left and right and attack them to hit most small maps in one spot - can hit bosses from basically anywhere since your attacks bounce off your orbs in a full circle around the orb, AND can bounce from orb->orb->boss (don't need to stand in front of the boss to hit them, if you're within a screen of them, you're hitting them from any angle pretty much) - Minus 20% Defense debuff - very solid damage in addition to being supporty - Unlike Mech, the summons kinda just do their own thing and don't really require any positioning setup, so aren't nearly as annoying to use (more like Mech's 5th job summons, less like his 1-4th job summons)
Welp here a year later but I'm absolutely loving Illium. It's one of my favorite characters because of its unique mechanics. The damage you can out out is also absolutely incredible and it's a pretty good bosser. Good mobber as well if you can get the technique down to get your Chrystal flying. 4th job also gives you an incredibly fun skill that makes you fly around the map blasting everything in your path. Of all characters I've played, it's definitely in my top 3
Illium was probably second or third place for when I eventually chose my main while I used to play. (Competing with Luminous and Fire/Poison, F/P won out in the end) The ball was the main sticking point. It's actually really good for some content and bosses, but having to babysit it gets annoying quickly. I really like the rest of the magitech theme and think Illium is a really underrated class.
I'll tell you exactly why nobody plays Illium: It's because on release - and even possibly to this day - Illiums most interesting/unique mechanic (flying) triggered the anti-cheat on maple, making the class essentially unplayable on release and for months to follow. I would LOVE to play the class, but being DCed every 5 minutes is too much for me.
@@shadowX50 He wouldn't DC while training, bur rather while switchinig maps. I might try him again, but I first made him back when i didn't know what stat line i wanted to main (str, dex, luck, int). Now that my account is set on non-int classes, it'll be weird building him up for anything other than legion.
I'm main Illium over 3 years+ so the most important is Illium need LOW ping (prefer < 50ms ) to get highest power, if high ping you will lose many damage like: delaying spam between Radiant Orb + Javelin lead to it takes longer to full Crystal Charges, Umbral Brand (Final attack like other class) is also proc lesser, MUST 10 attack speed level so early game (job 1-3) he's very weak. if you play MS at 100ms+ I do not advise you pick Illium
I like Illium. After I pushed my WH to 275, and maybe liberated, I will start training Illium as 2nd main or go beyond 275 cuz it will be much easier to grind with.
Illium has been my main since the moment he came out and I'd sooner quit Maple than choose another. I love him so much, his skills, his story, and I find him to be the easiest class to play. ♡
Honestly I loved palying Illium, hes oneof my most fun classes, and hes so powerful, its ridiculous the amount of DPS he can dish out... only problem is the carpal tunnel you get from playing him, kinda like Blaster.
I remember hating it when it came out. It was weak, slow and very clunky. Last year I started from scratch in EU reboot and I was dreading having to play this again for the link and I was surprised at how much I liked it. I'm now connsidering it for the hyper burn (either this or I/L)
This is an easy one for me. I'm a new player so I got to play Illium from a fresh perspective and no real bias. It's the playstyle. I hate it. It feels clunky and bad to me. Yes, I know they can fly and the movement is really interesting, but I would rather jump around the map quickly any day. With many other classes I can jump or fling myself around the map all while attacking. This is the best part of the game for me. They can make the class as strong as they want, but I would never be able to enjoy it because of the skill kit.
Important thing to mention for Illium: Extreme ping reliance, can heavily affect your javelin counts. In party play it's a very stressful class when trying to maintain 3 wings every 3 minute rotation, especially when ring swapping.
Once you get the hang of the class you start to figure out the best maps where you move little to not at all! Boost nodes are super easy to get cause you have so little skills.
I love illium! They’re my first class I leveled to 250 without any burns. It was super fun learning how to optimal farm. Hopefully I see more illium mains in the future, the class is seriously op!
Illium is a sleeper class. Mad mobbing and training, high damage and pretty good bossing mule. I started it out of boredom and it has gotten up to my top 5 characters recently. Illium best class
Illium is the class I plan to get to 200 after Mihile (which will be after hyperburning cannoneer). I really like the unique playstyle, and while micromanaging isnt the most exciting thing, I do love how powerful he feels at all times.
I really don't like the flying mechanic. If they leaned heavier into the orbs and summons, it'd feel more cohesive. That said, I agree it's not for everyone but still an underrated job. The mobbing is quite good. It's a bit off meta since giant maps are in with totems out, but Illium has Lumi levels of lazy grinding on smaller maps. You can literally full clear some maps without moving.
Illium is an even harder class to sell to other curious players than Kinesis, and I've put a lot of time and energy into both! 🤣 I keep one as a boss mule, and to feed into my Mage/INT legion. Class Pros: Base damage is alright, but not to the point of matching Kinesis or Blaze Wizard in my experience. Relatively high critical damage as a mage class. Updates over the years dramatically increased main skill's base damage (around Destiny, I noticed that the update increased my regular damage from 80-90M lines to 100-110M lines while completing Ranheim Defense. Makes for decent grind rotations in smaller maps. Is stupidly easy to produce ideal node trios at 5th job (given 8 skills to choose from, and you only require 6 of these). Crystal Ignition is an overpowered burst attack that deals increased damage towards bosses, and is deadly during Wings of Glory's duration. Possesses 2 skills, one of which can be shared with allies while Wings of Glory is active. Has flight, VERY exploitable during Damien. Crystal stacks reduce damage intake. Class Cons: Slow attacker (requires +1 Attack Speed from Inner ability), and Extreme Green Potions. Requires a booster as well to improve attack speed. Low base critical chance. Requires stacks to increase overall Magic Attack, and stacks require micromanagement. Infamously squishy as a class, pre-level 200. Upon GMS release, I died many, MANY times just trying to get to level 200-- This HAS been mitigated a bit, especially when 5th job advancement is cleared, and Arcane Force is incorporated with the class. Botching Crystal Ignition at any point requires you to wait on a 3 minute cooldown. Summons are essential to maintain effective DPM. Absolutely ESSENTIAL to carry buff freezers, dying without freezers completely removes Crystal gauge progress, forcing you to completely restart the arduous task of charging up to full power again (Hope Nexon fixes this). Verdict: Fun to use as a boss mule (for me as a mage-focused player in my current world), with its own unique playstyle. Requires a lot of micromanagement, and serious prep to make for effective use, even in the event should you get taken out by a boss, and I don't mean on a date.
I played Illium at it just out for play and love it when changed to 4th Job. The reason playing Illium is hard compared to other mages is magic guard (reduce damage skill), Illium use bless counts trigger guard but now this skill changed to passive easier than before. And some bug when flying and hit a monster when I don't have 100% stance cause you disconnect from a game (now this won't happen all character have 100% stance) . And bounced crystal could boost your combo attack count. If you learned to move around your crystal orb you can hit more monster in a group (multi kill) when hit orb with javelin it explode once then you move the orb to a different location before its second explode. imo just one thing, if you have high ping/latency doing action like flying and moving crystal orb would have strange result in summary you can't play
As a level 264 illium main this class is sleeper god tier. Insane training, insane bossing, huge party , relatively easy funding.. my only gripe is that it gets incredibly boring at times
I love Illium. Played him when I used to play MS. But back then, frequent dc would make their bot flag you and eventually ban, and CS is barely a help those days. And boy, even a slight latency issue when playing him will make you DC. Especially when flying.
I leveled it to 120 or a bit higher a while ago. I started finding it to be quite strong at some point, and noticed that I was doing a lot of damage and just cleaning up maps easily. It has probably been buffed even more since then. On the other hand, it was also very chaotic, like you said, and required too much micromanagement and mashing for me. To be fair, I think there are a lot of classes that are even worse in that regard, so maybe it's just a reputation thing combined with that.
i think his flying is the main reason because it feels so out of place. in a game where people spam dash jumps, teleports, and grapple hooks, his flying takes away that movement theme.
Guys, 5th is good when the portal and the spirit orb is on, 6th even better when we have Sol Janus and larger hitbox. One thing should be concerned is placing orb in the right position 😂
The main problem with Illium is just the stacking ball. Having to spam buttons to keep your stacks up is a huge pain, literally and figuratively. If they made the tiny ball auto fire after you used your main attack, Illium would be a perfectly fine class to play. No desire to play him as is, as I don't want to break my hands. Same with classes like Ark.
Ive just started him for his link skill today... Ive got him to 52 right now and Im ready to quit. His moves take forever to go off, that clunky delay from casting and it damaging is horrible... I think at this point I'd rather go without it or wait for a huper burning event... It's that bad.
Illium is my favorite class in the game hands down. I have gotten 4 to 200+... Issue is I suck at playing the class. I fucking love the class to death. I am waiting for the next Hyper burn to get a Bishop to 250 and main that instead. I am not smart enough to know how to be good at this class and love doesn't give a buff in boss fights... Its very sad.
i wouldnt worry about that kms designed this class and they love complicated classes look what they did to my poor dragon boi made him unplayable for most.
This is now my main in gms reboot since I moved love the class but I do have one complaint, let me have full uptime on portals without maxing the nodes pls 😢
I love illium i'm gonna be pushing mine further once i finish pathfinder and Battle Mage up i've heard for the attacking skills to macro them together but i also see people put them on two differenct buttons which one is best illium mains i request assistance~ XD

I thought Mechanic had too many skills to keep up already and then we have Illium 😂
Nice to see Coppersan summoning the entire active Illium playerbase to comment in one video, turns out there's really enough mains here to fill up a guild 1/3 full!!!
before illium first released, i was an aran main who had just gotten to level 200 for the very first time in maplestory. even if i wasnt great at playing aran, i still had fun with all the other aspects the mmo had to offer! when illium came out, i decided to give it a shot because of the launch event it had with cadena. turns out that i'd have the most fun i ever had playing maplestory as someone who played since 2006! (yes, it took me around a decade to get a single character to level 200, but that was because i have always been a casual player.) i managed to get this new class to level 200 just a couple weeks after creating it, which i was super proud of, considering my track record! i remember one of the days i spent grinding for like, up to 11 hours *straight* because of all the EXP tickets i saved up. illium's micromanagement and grinding style was absolutely ideal for me to just turn my brain off and relax. i think the reason i was so comfortable with illium was because i changed keybinds for pretty much *everything* for the sake of my wrists. getting disoriented whenever i play a non-illium class is a funny consequence of this, since i always had the same keybind template for all of my characters in the past. as most people probably experienced, raising an illium is a total drag until 4th job. but i think that the slow pacing of introducing new skills was what really helped me adjust to such a complex job. the game gave enough time and space for illium players to experiment, with low stakes welcoming them to see how new skills would interact with the crystal. it was such a fun experience to me to where i decided to go outside of my comfort zone and level further to the 220s. that's not very far for most active players, but that was definitely enough to earn me the #1 and #2 weekly spot on mu lung dojo, depending on if the other illium main was playing that week. LOL. i totally get why its barely played, but this class hits *all* the sweet spots for specifically *me*, and it had reignited my interest in the MMO back when the class released (though i am no longer active). it's funny that despite its complexity and jankiness, it's easy to turn off your brain when playing, just as long as you gave the class the time to become familiar with it. (of course, not everyone has this time or patience either.)
He was my first main and I train him all the way up to 26x, the training is really smooth and with certain gloom you can deny the sucking and easily dodge those meters easily with your precise fly control (not the burst one, just the jump blink). Also I highly recommended to practice the jump blink (when you use blink when you are jump, you can fly for a short distance), for will phase 2, with that fly you can easily align yourself during the checkpoint.
only thing i see illium as is an example of a class how not to make for the developers you can buff it to the moon and back but the playstyle still fucking sucks for a game that requires grinding
I went through illium's story blind and it was enjoyable, he started as nobody, got known, helped the class in the future, become a god. And then suddenly, coppersan: "Why NO ONE Plays Illium" Haha, Illium goes back to being a nobody 😭
Oh, nice! At last Illium!

- can hit bosses from basically anywhere since your attacks bounce off your orbs in a full circle around the orb, AND can bounce from orb->orb->boss (don't need to stand in front of the boss to hit them, if you're within a screen of them, you're hitting them from any angle pretty much)

Thanks coppersan for fulfilling my request😁
im planning to play this guy i swear to god if they delete it...
i wouldnt worry about that kms designed this class and they love complicated classes look what they did to my poor dragon boi made him unplayable for most.
I know it's strong but the mechanics are just too horrible for me to play.
This is now my main in gms reboot since I moved love the class but I do have one complaint, let me have full uptime on portals without maxing the nodes pls 😢
What's 4 15 map ? How can I access there?
I love illium i'm gonna be pushing mine further once i finish pathfinder and Battle Mage up i've heard for the attacking skills to macro them together but i also see people put them on two differenct buttons which one is best illium mains i request assistance~ XD
I thought Mechanic had too many skills to keep up already and then we have Illium 😂
Illium would be incredible if they just reduced how much the battery needs to be charged for certain skills.
I want to say I appreciate your videos, you helped me find my main! ( cannoneer)
Disrespecting damien's mechanics on illium feels too good 😂
Can you do one for Lara please?
Nice to see Coppersan summoning the entire active Illium playerbase to comment in one video, turns out there's really enough mains here to fill up a guild 1/3 full!!!
💀
Do hero next!! The OG class!
I keep forgetting about this class lol. I should level this class.
before illium first released, i was an aran main who had just gotten to level 200 for the very first time in maplestory. even if i wasnt great at playing aran, i still had fun with all the other aspects the mmo had to offer! when illium came out, i decided to give it a shot because of the launch event it had with cadena.
turns out that i'd have the most fun i ever had playing maplestory as someone who played since 2006!
(of course, not everyone has this time or patience either.)
yeah cancer tutorial is one of the reasons I will never even create this class again on my new account
I love Illium but I'm SEA player It's very bad experience
Persoonlijk erg leuke class !😊
Love the visual theme, HATE how he feels to play
This is my main, fkin love it.
i have to train illium for link skill ... i hate it lol. he doesnt shine by 140 i feel
have a 241 illium from hyper but still dont understand skill to boss =))
Response to the tittle: One phrase - Stupid crystal moving mechanic
illium is bad because the controlling of the orb make player feel clunky
Illium OP cracked rn 💪
Wp copperssan do a video about a class that everyone hates to make them forget the rant videos
My fav class love him so much
HEY! do hero next! lesgoo
I never play mages but this class was awesome. I feel like it was very strong even with its flaws.
I want an Illium but need need hyper burning!!!
Illium makes your voice funny, that's why ppl don't like it I think
I still can't understand Illium with that crystal and stuff..why making so complicated skill..
illium got one of the longest questline unskippable ever and boring .
WELP, time to remove Illium!
i wouldnt wish illium on my worst enemies
CLASS WITH A WACK ASS Mandatory quest line too. that dont allow you to use teleport rock
ilium is fun, please everyone try him out at least :D
He was my first main and I train him all the way up to 26x, the training is really smooth and with certain gloom you can deny the sucking and easily dodge those meters easily with your precise fly control (not the burst one, just the jump blink). Also I highly recommended to practice the jump blink (when you use blink when you are jump, you can fly for a short distance), for will phase 2, with that fly you can easily align yourself during the checkpoint.
Gib’s so einen Channel auch in deutsch ? Wo über Maple gesprochen wird ?😂
Waiting blaster video 😅
maybe it will be the next deleted class? xD
how the hell 12am first comment after working hours lol. Early game he got slow, so left him at 75.
In my own experience, the positioning thing is an amazing thing, but i didn´t enjoyed it that much.
do AB Please
Horrible on high ping
why no one play zero ...should be next
ZeroSan ?
illium is op
it sucks because i really like the style of the class a tech mage sounds neat but the execution is way too horrible.
I'm in love with this class
too much work for me.
I will lvl up an Illium with Hyperburning!! I excited!
As an Illium main only things that keep me frustrating is how squishy they are
over complicated class with not the best results just like evan but not really my aesthetic
only thing i see illium as is an example of a class how not to make for the developers you can buff it to the moon and back but the playstyle still fucking sucks for a game that requires grinding
The playstyle is just very tedious to me, but once I got to 140 he got a bit stronger, not too bad ig
I went through illium's story blind and it was enjoyable, he started as nobody, got known, helped the class in the future, become a god.
And then suddenly,
coppersan: "Why NO ONE Plays Illium"
Haha, Illium goes back to being a nobody 😭
worst part about illium is you need to be alive to charge your burst in bosses
Next up is why no one plays kanna and hayato 🥲
I'm one of the only illiums. I love being this class more than anything.
I think Illium is the worst job in the game but nah they deleted Jett
"...summons. Usually one of those three are present in most unpopular classes"
*cries in legacy bowmaster and marksman* 🥲
