Yes, so the wireless receiver (white part in my video) will end up hooking up to your hot water cylinder and then the wireless thermostat will go where your wireless one is
Hi Mark thank you for the video, I’m wandering if the X is worth the 300+ € price difference there is currency since the v3 is highly discounted… would you still get the X or would you go for the v3?
Unless you really want Matter or the new design there's no reason to go for the X over V3+, the V3 is still a great system and Tado have said they're still going to keep supporting it
Mark, thanks for the video. It’s very helpful. I have been communicating with tado support team but they have confused me a lot. I have Vaillant ecoFit Pure 830 boiler with Vaillant VRT-350 controller/programmer. I am quite new to the UK and definitely to these systems. All I need is to automate everything for heating and hot water and to control with tado app and/or Apple Home with bigger aim of reducing my bills. My question to tado was whether tado X can also control hot water also. I read in manual of my boiler that it has a cylinder and relay (perhaps you might know better). But tado support told me that I can’t control hot water with it. They said, “ Hello Rahul, you can install the wireless setup but using a simple switch on/off ( no modulation control). However, it only gives the possibility of central heating control. Your current setup is modulation control and offers the opportunity of central heating and domestic hot water control.” What do you suggest? Should I still go ahead?
You could still go ahead but it sounds like the hot water control will be limited. It might actually be worth looking at the Tado V3+ as I'm sure the water control on that is actually more advanced and Tado are going to continue to support it...there's also a big sale on it at the moment too tidd.ly/4f4ncqv
Hey Mark, love your content! Quick question. I have a Tado V3 thermostat and have all my automations in Apple Home kit. (This way I bypass the geofencing subscription in the Tado app) Do you think adding a Tado X on a radiator knob and continue having automations exclusively in Home Kit will work?
I think that should work…I’ve always considered setting up schedules like that in Apple home but it’s always felt like a big faff compared to the simplicity of the Tado app
I've equipped my house with V3+ valves and wireless sensors over the past 2 years (It's still rather expensive). After watching and reading reviews about the new X version it's clearly not an upgrade over v3+, unless you live in a mansion and have connectivity problems with the puny bridge. It looks worse and lacks compatibility with proprietary bus systems (opentherm is still not prevalent unless you're in the few, one?, countries that make it mandatory).
A few points for anyone coming from V3, this system does not provide all the functions of V3. Early start is missing and hot water temperature control, which was available on Opentherm on V3, is also missing. Furthrmore I have been unable to get the integration with Apple Home to work reliably. Mostly, tapping the thermostat tile only turns the heating on and off and only occasionally allows the temperature to be set as you have shown in the video. Far too often, the Thermostats report "updating" or "no response" in the Home app. Additionally, Apple Home no longer sees the humidity data so any automations based on humidity will no longer work.
@@MarksTechVlogs In case I've caused some confusion, I'll clarify: Early start is missing whether using Opentherm or simple relay unless you have early start in your relay system. Would be handy to know. Thanks.
I think it depends on if you’re planning to expand it with radiator valves or not. If you are this is worth the difference because the valves can turn on your boiler too. The other difference is the geofencing ability which does save money. If you’re not fussed about either of the above then the Meross is a great option with a really good price
Yes but it depends how you have the override feature setup in the Tado app, I prefer to have it so if I override it then it goes back to the schedule at the next timeslot which would cause it to come back on even if Apple home had turned it off
Can you boost either the heating or the hot water from the room thermostat
You can’t boost but you can turn them up in .5 degree increments
I have wired thermostats but a hot water cylinder. Will the wireless with hot water be best option?
Yes, so the wireless receiver (white part in my video) will end up hooking up to your hot water cylinder and then the wireless thermostat will go where your wireless one is
@ thanks for the reply! I have two heating zones as well do you think this will still work
@@pete_shan That might be one to double check with Tado support as I'm not a heating expert but I suspect you'll just need a 2nd wireless thermostat
@ yeh no worries thanks for the help and good video

Did you get the stand alone temperature sensor for more accurate reading? Thanks
I didn’t. I’m using the offset feature and getting the right temperature from my HomePod mini/switchbot temperature sensor to adjust it accordingly

Besides matter, how is this superior to the Nest?
I’ve not used nest so can’t really compare it to that

Thanks for sharing. My controls work fine in Apple home but really helpful to know about the technical differences with open therm
@@MarksTechVlogs Thanks for that, that may well be useful info. I have a ticket open and I'll add that to it.

How is this compared to the Meross? Worth the price difference? Meross seems just half the price.

@ But meross doesn't have the humidity sensor correct?
Yes though the Tado X range don’t expose these values to Apple Home, the humidity levels are only available in the Air Comfort part of the Tado app
@@MarksTechVlogs Thx! Lean towards to Tado 😄
Can't you use Apple Home to turn the heating off when you leave the house automatically?
Yes but it depends how you have the override feature setup in the Tado app, I prefer to have it so if I override it then it goes back to the schedule at the next timeslot which would cause it to come back on even if Apple home had turned it off
I’d love a deep dive video into what you can do in the Apple Home app with Tado X. I see so many competing accounts.
What in particular are you interested in and I’ll see what I can do 😀
