How lucky there was to be able to record them in Madrid. In Barcelona, with sold-out tickets, MG was in a bad mood and, like a sergeant, didn’t let himself be recorded.
That’s not even him being in a bad mood honestly, he just passionately hates people filming/being on their phones during concerts. I guess he wants the public to live and experience the show rather than try to capture it, but yeah saw them a couple of weeks back, he yelled super angrily at someone filming and 10min later almost snatched a dude’s phone. I guess if you want to record Swans live don’t go for the front row :)
M. Gira is actually quite gracious and respectful when it comes to asking people not to stand there with their cell phones pointed at him. he wants you to experience what he and his fellow musicians are about to eviscerate for you, lain exposed and vulnerable right there. audiences can be ridiculous these days with all the cell phones lit up, often only watching a show through that tiny screen…. when its REAL and right there. I often am tempted to capture and sometimes will attempt to at snap pics or video at concerts…. but I try to be brief and conscientious of others around me. Usually, I feel silly and embarrassed and quickly put my phone away and zone out…. AND I AM RETIRED PROFESSIONAL VIDEOGRAPHER WHO HAS RECORDED DOZENS OF PERFORMANCES. (Trust me, many things I have “filmed” I only remember through the footage I captured. and a SWANS show is something you feel and you will never be able to capture that on video) also…. what artist wants some assholes shitty shaky cell phone video footage floating out there on the eenurnayet anywayz? can’t wait to EXPERIENCE them again tomorrow night 18/04/24 Hope to see y’all there!!!
@@wavydavy71 I’ve recorded hundreds of full concerts and, thanks to my distributed attention, never had any problems enjoying them to the fullest, whether live or afterwards. Generally, I film from the front row, keep the screen brightness to a minimum, and avoid disturbing the viewers behind me by raising my hands. Many artists have thanked me for filming and sharing their concerts. With today's technology, it is easy to record without shaky footage, and if you add high-quality external audio recordings, the results can be very interesting. I respect the artist's decision to not want to be filmed, but I prefer to attend shows with video-friendly policies.
@@wavydavy71 I will be at the Atlanta show tomorrow, too! Definitely gonna grab a clip or two for myself, but I totally get his disdain for the phones way up in the air during performances.
In A Coruña MG made a very ugly throat-cutting gesture to a girl in the front row. Ironically, there was a guy in the second row recording useless vertical videos, and MG said absolutely nothing to him. I made several videos and photos myself and there was no problem.
@@kevbrockmusic Yes, it is usual for him to sign at the merchandise table after concerts, but he does not allow photos to be taken. In his own words: "Mobile phones and digital culture are an evil that subdues humanity." It's a shame that the opportunity to keep a memorable concert for posterity was missed in Barcelona. His fall from the chair, almost breaking the guitar, was almost poetic. On the other hand, at the merch table this time, I was a bit disappointed to only find European Mute editions, although I appreciate the affordable price they offered. I expected to find American editions of YoungGodRecords as in the past. 2017 was the last time he came here with authentic YGR merchandise.
