Seems Princess Clara has the same forthright attitude of Wyatt but keeps it hidden from others on purpose so as not to be predictable. She isn't just self aware but aware how others see her and uses that for the advantage of the greater good. Wyatt's character as developed is further cemmented. It's going to get even more interesting as we move along in the story. Loving it.
This is the first time Wyatt is not actively present in the story.
There are episodes from the Duke where Wyatt was not involved in the story
There was the episode with the princess at 14yo when she had several noble families executed.
My thinking that Wyatt being in Clara's retinue would create an instant aura of danger seems to have been right on. Even his squadron has suspicions other than Leopald. Seems Nobs can't accept anything at face value. And the commoners can't believe that royals/Blue bloods would actually treat a commoner with respect.
Also interesting the little window we got into the royal marine selection process. Not quite as intense as a 40K space marine, considering failed candidates don't die outright but often become agents. I suspect Malkadies would have taken more than two if more turned out to be genetically comparable.
She said they would be agents so maybe they will be trained like RMs and then work for her?
I imagine it's more like the Spartans in halo. During their enhancement process, some died and many more became disabled in some way.
There's a series of books, the kilo 5 trilogy, where we see the future head of ONI was in the Spartan program but her body rejected the process. Disabled but with her mind sharp as ever she was transferred into intelligence as an agent. Eventually she proved so effective that she became second to, and later head of, oni.
The people these stories focus on seem to be more pragmatic than most of the people around them, so while royal marines are supposed to be from noble houses, I could see Clara making an exception for this. Or, like somone else suggested, they could become her personal guard, loyal directly to her and enhanced out of their minds.

@@Davicus1 So they have the correct DNA but if they fail they will have the training to be a good agent if I'm getting that right.
Just like I have the correct DNA to understand most of this book and also too many concussions to understand this concept right away

Why is this story so addicting? It's so exciting when a new chapter drops
Interesting the chapter starts with a Leopold Dakar POV. Nice touch EkhidnaWritez with giving us a view of the commoner sleeping quarters on the Noirnavio and how it's way better than most Principality Navy Ships for commoners 😊.
I totally sympathize with Leopold for being rudely awaken by his roommates being angry the the pirates ☠️ are being kept alive. It's hilarious hearing how Leopold's roommates believe the sensor ghosts 👻/rumors that nobles largely suspect about Wyatt 😂🤣😆! No surprise that Leopold end up laughing his ass off how his roommates and his squadron mates similarly crazy. 😊 Thank you EkhidnaWritez for using hogwash in this story its a old nice phrase that has basically died out in the US except in the older generations. I do find it funny how 1 of Leopold's female roommates thinks Wyatt might have some romantic relations with Clara but Leopold never got a sense that Wyatt is in romantic relationship or at least having physical relations with her.
I do love how Leopold is fearsly supporting his commander. No surprise that Leopold thinks the thing that makes Wyatt special is the type of character he is. Leopold has become 1 of the 1st followers of Wyatt and Wyatt does not know this yet. I would not be surprised if Leo survives this House War, he will end up joining Wyatt's new house.
I do like we get to see how Clara thinks how Wyatt reacts to her reputation and accepts her faults and all. I do like how this chapter shows Clara's thoughts of how she could have potentially handled the Plague incident better, like sparing the young children and the babies. Interesting we finally get some solid info on how Royal Marines are created. We were given hints about it back when Cynthia telling Wyatt about how the highest levels of enhancements of people in the Principality of Astor have to be done either in the womb or before 1 or 2 years old.
Its interesting seeing how valuable 2 potential royal marines are considering how much Clara offering the 3 pirate adults and how Milkades agrees in that Clara's deal is reasonable 1. A very interesting twist in having Clara offering that the teenagers and children of the pirates being given a chance to be part of Clara's crew. It will be interesting see how many young pirate teens and children take the deal and how the friction between them and the commoner auxiliary is going to be?

I think from what we have heard of Leopold he is neither coward nor hero, but he might well be that very important NCO who helps keep his commander alive, if so then perhaps he will end up as a loyal retainer or even a minor knight, it will be interesting to see what makes the other two pilots tick, I hope we find out

Nope. They mentioned it a few time in earlier chapters. RMs are recruited from the Noble Houses.
However, you re on the right track. I think Clara is going to try and raise her own _Janissaries_ they will never have a house loyalty and they will only serve Clara. Oh and nobody will know they exist until it's way to late. She can get orphan children under the guise of an orphanage, when in fact it will be and _agogi._
Remember a few RM were part of the plot against the Prince.
@@nautifella I believe they talk about Marines being recruited from Noble Houses but Royal Marines seem to be more secretive
I can tell you how Royal Marines are recruited but then I either kill myself or join Epstein.

Shower scene reminds me the one in Starship Troopers the one where the director also got naked so actors and actresses would not feel awkward.....Also heard it was only going to be a couple of actors and actresses in it but suddenly everyone joined in...
A truly legendary scene and story behind it.
Another great story. Leopold just figured out why Wyatt got his position, and it was interesting he saw why because of his compatriots. Even if they had the opportunity, they could never have run with it the way Wyatt did because of their character.
While I can understand the existence of piracy, even in our own time, they have never been nice people. Some, like Lafitte, were less brutal and more intelligent, but their responses to many things were, shall we politely say, basic.
The pirates in this story seem to be as much anarchist cultists as they are criminal profiteers.
Can’t really think of a real world analogy but they kinda remind me of the reavers from red faction guerilla.

@@kyriss12 most pirate are actually like this in the modern era, the Somali pirates are nothing compared to those in the Strait of Malaca or on the western coast of Africa where they do do vile acts and will happily kill anyone who gets in there way. The countries on the western coast of Africa deploy numerous gun boats to patrol the coast line. The causalities on both sides are pretty bad and the nations' navies are mostly dedicated to anti pirate endeavors.
What made Wyatt so special? Initially, blind friggin' luck and past that was pure skill and the right attitude
Yes there was blind luck he was in the right place at the right time, but there is more to it than that, firstly he realised it wa the Royal Yacht being attacked, his Loyalty to the Principality meant he had to do something, but he was driving a garbage scow with a single point defence weapon nothing that should have been able to damage the warship, so within seconds he evaluates the situation and realises that the scow gontains explosive gas, he then launches the scow on exactly the right trajectory and detonates it at exactly the right location to cause enough damage to the attacking vessel that results in it having to retreat. So a good tactical mind, a huge amount of skill and intense loyalty, because if the attacking ship had successfully fired a single shot at his vessel he would have been dead so a lot of bravery as well. Finally of course we have the fact that the Prince is of the traditional school that says for exceptional actions there should be exceptional rewards
Clara being benevolent to the pirates and totally remorseless toward the Houses of Infamy. Wise beyond her years. A future Queen beyond compare.
I really enjoy this story but I get frustrated because I finish the drops so quickly My appetite is too big. Want more more MORE! 😀
The way the writer has crafted this arc of the story of Clara is most impressive.
From rebellious and childish only to see a mirror on awful nobles that woke her to a cruel truth. Matured beyond her years by the foulness of those around her, carrying the burden of her rash and harsh decisions to wipe entire houses, and now presented with an opportunity to even the scales. Her self awareness is palpable, very human, very real. An amazing character, even more than Wyatt.
As for the theme of pride. Pride comes before the fall as they say. A good friend of mine pointed out to me that pride is the thing that injures us the most.
Pride holds us from being happy, from seeing reason. Because of pride we bring suffering to others, to friends and family and to the world at large. When we overcome our pride we can be better, rise above and see the future improve. Of course its not easy, but its possible and its worth it.
This is a most exquisite tale, crafted with gusto, skill and passion. It is visceral and gripping, it makes you reflect on things that few dare to do so. Its been a while since I have come across such a good story. Bravo.
You are correct on pride also it is like a rachet that keeps you from backing up and correcting your behavior. As for the author there are many issues here and I love the way it is being laid out without fear, because many don't like looking for the truth

thank you for the last chapter as you are fleshing out your characters. l have also realised they we have to pay very close attention to what has already been mentioned in earlier chapters. I don't know if any of our speculations are going into this story. but knowing that the author and others connected participate here, I this is one of the many reasons why I enjoy this great story

A 14 yo pampered girl utterly looses it at the brutality and wipes out several noble houses. I don't blame her. I went from a pampered only son of a rich loving family to homeless at 9yo in the crime infested NYC streets of the mid 1960s. Thank you Fidel Castro for making me strong. Thank you God for allowing me to survive. Now, I'm a rich retired professor of medicine and biochemistry. I can understand Clara, a 14yo suddenly slapped by the utter cruelty of humanity snapping.
Society needs royal marines. You may find them among the gutter rats. Ultimately Jack Nicholson was right. Most raised in soft times can't handle the truth. The gods of the copybook headings will teach society again, and soon. 24:44

Those babies will become future Royal Marines. They are apparently young enough to get the Weavethew tier 5 implants.

I’m wondering if Chapter 40- is going to start off with Wyatt & Redford together, Wyatt getting his lessons in Command or potentially Piloting/Commanding the Nioranovio again, Since “Wyatt was attending to his other duties..”
Attempting to redeem pirates, is going to bring turmoil to the crew. The crew hates the pirates completely, even if they are young. Wyatt may even do a double take on that kind of mercy.
Perhaps, but I think he'll adjust rather quickly. Much like others, once he hears the story of one or two of them, his perceptions will shift.
Princess Clara Astor is a VERY wise Woman these days .

Most likely, they have the potential to become Royal Marines. It has to do with the best genetic enhancements can only be added to a person either in the womb or either younger than 1 or 2 years. Clues were given to us listeners when Cynthia talked to Wyatt after his 2nd round of enhancements. EkhidnaWritez is finally giving us how someone becomes a Royal Marine. 😊
Actually I like to see Leopold tell WYATT what happened. . Either to quell the roommates or to get into the pilots Quarters

If i had anything to say i would have my best scientists and engineers by now on the black ship so they get all its secrets and then create the best possible design for the own shipyards.

@@kinngrimm When they captured the Noirnavio there was a second Black Ship, damaged but flyable at the same location, it took about half the Royal Marines and went straight to woodshaft whilst Wyatt did his killing as many Drazzan as possible in the shortest time thing

I would not be surprised if some enemies of Astor end up doing what you suggested. At the same time, it wouldn't be as damaging to Astor due to how majority of nobles see Clara as crazy, dangerous and don't speak ill of her anywhere near her if you value your life.
I don't know that would be damaging, more like a trial ballon (also a reason to start the actual romance). Also it would tend to make others underestimate Wyatt , a dangerous thing.

They were a secret Sleeper Agent tortured & broken by the Soviets using Chinese methods, that turned them into a sleeper Spy… The Soviets were also known for raising sleeper Spies from a Very Young Age, to act “Americanized” then placed & guided into taking prominent positions, to send secrets back to the Soviet Union of the Cold War Era…
Good candidate for future Royal Marines
They have to have stable DNA so that the changes made only do the things they are supposed to, otherwise you get genetic abnormalities like Wyatt's eyes, essentially if you are messing with DNA you want to be starting off with really good DNA, also for the most advanced processes they need to be implemented in the womb or within the first year of life, as for "and for what" Clara giving the Captain of the Royal Marines the responsibility for them does rather suggest that taking "Orphans" and turning them into Royal Marines might be in part what makes them so special, the Marines take people from noble houses but the Royal Marines don't do that because how can you secure house Astor if your security may be compromised by family members from traitor houses

Do give Clara credit where credit is due, so even she has not fully grasp the concept yet. All the children were programmed and programming can be reversed only the adults are circumspect and may need to take a short space Walk with no Eva suit. Those children in fact would become a very loyal and furious set a troops under her command the babies even more so. Also the older children need to be taken to the training Chambers to test their skills as pilots. I would then have Wyatt and the composters split the children amongst them the show traits of being good pilots and have them start training them especially considering that the Nora navio has fighters but fewer pilots, this would help both sides because my teaching the pilots would actually increase their own skills.😂❤

While most of the stories here are from the HFY genre, this seems to be more about PFY. Protagonist f yeah. Basically instead of all humans it’s just one superpowers master chief like self insert.

Yeah... The battles are cool. But the world building has been good too. Trick is getting the mix right.
i have a feeling by how the writer has written this and other stories that 38/39 were world building to get some stuff outta the way and setup for a mini climax in 40-41. just my opinion
