  • In episode 31 of Governance This Week, Mariaclaudia Carella sits down with Peter Vis, Florence STG European Commission insider and Senior Research Associate.
With over two decades of experience leading the development of EU climate policy, Vis discusses the imperative of phasing out fossil fuels and risk mitigation strategies to combat climate change.
Reflecting on COP28 and the outcomes of the first Global Stocktake exercise conducted during the last Conference of the Parties, he underscores the urgent need for accelerated action to achieve our climate goals.
Finally, he shares insights into how the EU can lead the charge in addressing climate challenges on a global scale and addresses the bloc's preparedness against extreme weather events, the importance of planning to reverse the effects of climate change and funding resilience initiatives.

Reliable public transportation is key, leads to less cars, less parking lots, soil consumption, less soil sealing, etc. etc.

Reduce car dependency to absolute minimum, especially in densely populated areas. I am convinced that most of those problems can be solve by good and efficient infrastructure design.
