- Nobara's death has definitely shaken up the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom and even made some people stop watching the series all together, I am one of the people who think even if Nobara has to meet her end it could have been handled better leading up to that point and in this video I go over that.

I’ve seen a few theories on how resonance could help in taking down Sukuna, I just hope that with JJk in its Final Arc we can see Nobara do something given how she isn’t confirmed dead
I think it would be a bit silly if she had any role at all in the Sukuna fight. She's just not anywhere near strong enough to be useful. I think the best we could get is seeing her still alive in a epilogue.

@@BrandonHeat243 Same. People have to heavily cope to believe that she would be able to even hit Sukuna, or that her CT would do any serious harm even if it hit. After missing for more than half of the series, it would be very cheesy to bring her back as someone who is needed to win against Sukuna when she got destroyed by even Haruta.

The same way if Sakura got excessive screen time in Naruto, that might risk turning away fans
Nobara resonance is so incredible, it hits the soul and ignore the toughness of the body. Mahito got hit by blackflash multiple times and still kicking. If her physical stats were on par with just even Nanami, she would be fucking incredible.

One choreography way to make Nobara's fate more understandable would have been to have her just barely make it down the stairs with just enough time to realize Yuji was there before Mahito touched her.
If the timeframe had been very similar to how they portrayed Choso noticing Yuji when he jumped down the stairs, nobody would be dissatisfied

I mean, in the anime it was clear that she was taken by surprise with Mahito's attack. And Nanami didn't say you need to be grade 1 level, he said his level was the bare minimum. So, pretty well acknowledging he was in over his head and anyone who couldn't keep up with him was only going to die a meaningless death.
Honestly it’s not really about a character winning all their fights that make them interesting and loveable. Nobara is FAR more likeable and interesting because she has her own identity and motivations which isn’t even because Nobara herself is focused to be this way but most of the cast is written this way. The cast generally feel all like unique pieces that just fit together.

And if you look closely at our main characters, well, none of them has been winning at all in any sense that really matter to them.
Gojo cannot really do much even being the strongest of the modern era. Lost his only BFF. Failed to protect the star plasma vessel. His students are either disfigured now or dead.
Yuji failed to save a lot of people. He even failed to actually defeat and kill Mahito. Sukuna tricked him again.
Megumi, well, his father is the father of the year.
It just goes on for everyone on the side of humans. Sure they defeated some enemies but did they really win in areas that really matters? Gojo killed Toji but Toji already accomplished his objective. The same with Hanami. Mahito was absorbed but not before killing a lot of people and tormenting Yuji.
At this point only the disaster curses, Sukuna and Kenjaku has been winning.
Yep! A lot of characters feel like their fleshed out enough to be the MC of their own story. Nobara is no different, and ended up being one of my favorite characters in the series (which was a pleasant surprise to see for a female lead!)

one thing I have noticed with new shonen like CSM and JJK is characters' deaths are treated like character development for just the MC and not the character who is actually dying..

What does that even mean. If a character dies their role and arc in the story is over. The only thing left with their character is how their death effects the characters who are still alive.

CSM manga spoilers;
Aki and Power where quite literally getting character development upto or even after they died, like with Power.
Akis brain was still getting jogged by the Gun Devil taking control, still leaving part of his brain alive for him to experence fight Denji while he was switching inbetween his memories of his brother confusing him with Denji...
He had such a meaningful conlusion to his character, as he had finally started find joy in life after being stuck in the past, symbolized by him starting to play catch with his brother again.
Same with Power, since she noticed how deveasted Denji was and even herself, since they both went on a binging streak, spending all of Akis money.
Thes were both trying to feel something new, calling back to Makimas lesson to Denji.
Power had her conclusion to her character arc of being a unknowing existentialist, learning to care for the things around having a non-physical value to her and her giving Denji a birthday cake (wich she managed to make suprisingly) to Denji to cheer him up with her first ever smile of appreciation/love.
And after her death, having that moment with Denji in the garbage is symbolic

I think the japanese have a problem with writing strong women especially in combat. Not saying they cant write compelling female characters. But more often than not their roles in the story are always sidelined.
Western media has a problem with writing strong women. Its just Mary Sue characters like She Hulk
Its basically, what sells the most is produced more. JJK sells more than say Fairy Tail and thats the way popular Shonen is.
You can watch Sailor Moon or Fairy Tail or Rosario Vampire that make strong women. Its simply not popular so it gets overshadowed.

The thing is even if she comes back what can she even do. The only way she'll be able to actually do anything is if ahe gets a power up. Gojo is dead, Megumi's body was seemingly absorbed into Sukuna's heian form, Yuji's vengeful, traumatized, and is fighting Sukuna.And then Sukuna is back at his peak again and know's how Nobara's technique works
Well technically, Megumi doesn’t know how Nobara’s technique works. I don’t think he’s ever seen it once
So TECHNICALLY Sukuna also doesn’t know about it
But yea- not like it matters. Nobara has said it deals damage depending on how strong the opponent is so even if she used her technique on Sukuna’s finger it wouldn’t do much
@just4universe219 I don't actually think knowing what it is would meaningfully help him. Nobara's Technique can be used from any range iirc, so there's no reason why if she is back she wouldn't just be hammering on the finger over and over again in a secure bunker or some shit where Sukuna wouldn't be able to find or reach her. The distance would also presumably make it impossible to tell when it's going to hit as well, which would be another huge kick in the balls.

I would love to see Nobara come back in the manga...However, with the way the manga is currently going bringing her back now is gonna feel very shoehorned in (even if done perfectly). Nobara’s death and the death of Yuki, genuinely had me annoyed at the fact that there was so much wasted potential. Not just for the characters but for the plot of jjk.
While I understand thematically it fits to have characters “gone too soon”, it does make the deaths and characters feel half baked as a result. I think the female cast seemingly suffers the most from this simply because its a lot smaller when compared to the male cast leaving a lot less notable female characters.
It's a matter of weighing the good vs the bad. And Nobara coming back would realistically do a lot more good for the story (she's not actually dead, nor is she anywhere close to the only significant desth, so it's not like they'd be throwing away the consequences and damaging versamilitude).
I wanted to point smth out that I'm not entirely sure abt, so correct me if I'm wrong. But if I am correct, I recall that it's not so much of Gege hating female characters, I just remember him saying he has a hard time writing them. (But I'm not familiar with all his quotes so he could've said he doesn't like them or smth) Imo, Gege has a FAAAR better grasp of female characters than most manga authors today. He's beyond his time when it comes to not over sexualizing them, and even if they have gruesome deaths, he always makes them fairly compelling, as Nobara, Riko, and Maki have their own motivations and actively pursue them. Gege made Nobara so compelling, for me at least, in just 4 arcs in the anime (I didn't start reading the manga til I had finished Season 1) that I felt sad about her death in Shibuya and have wanted her to come back ever since. Nobara is probably my favorite female character in all of anime.

1:55 - Nanami would also be included based on ch 236. He was the one that Gojo heard out about his death before he commented about sorcerers not having regrets.
I feel that the story punishing her for doing something reckless is not disrespectful but what happens in reality. Sure, maybe people don’t like that in their fiction, but sometimes people bite off more than they can chew. Itadori constantly does this and dies because of it. He just doesn’t stay dead due to the relationship he has with the strongest curse to ever exist. Even then, there is still a consequence to that happening-the most recent one being Sakuna turning a large part of the city into a glass floor. The show is, if anything, not about pushing your limits despite the odds but recognizing them.
Nah, there's absolutely a double standard in play. Maki and Megumi did the same thing and didn't die (even though Maki had her head fried).
I personally don't like this because her personality fits what is needed to get stronger. Out of the 3 she is the most selfish only caring for the people she chooses to have in her life, she ddin't run away which has consistently shown to how you should ideally approach jujutsu. Both Jogo and Yuki lose so terribly because the forer doesn't try opening his domain (He'd still lose sure, but Sukuna himself gave this advice) and Yuki went with Tengen's plan not confident of beating Kenjaku which got her killed,

I can imagine a callback to the mahito fight where yuji sees sukana get punctured by resonance and get a power up from that. I could also see Gege have nobara wake up at the end of the series to a new beginning which I would prefer less but idk

Honestly we are past the point of not confirming her death. If it is the end for Nobara there was no reason to not confirm it. If it was supposed to be a false hope thing to further drive Yuji into despair...then we are past that point too. At this point its just a matter of Gege looking like he knows what he is doing, its fine to have a show where characters die but we have so many confirmed...absolutely not ambiguous deaths that there is no point for the uncertainty surrounding Nobara if its a simple case of her being dead
Another main female side character that got the short end of the stick, shocker. I swear shounen manga/anime are always doing their female characters dirty. Whether, its their subpar fighting ability or them getting screw over via shipping. I'm just glad I wasn't all that interested with Nobara's character as a whole. This is why I tread carefully whenever a female character catches my interest.

I'm so agreed with Nobara's backstory being left out if we about to rewrite the story. Cus it did make me sad but it just feels weird cus we experienced her with Yuji and Megumi, not with those two. And those characters that interacted with little Nobara will never ever comeback anyway. It's the same thing with Yuji's former school friends only having a one time thing (that girl who have a crush on Yuji, and his 2 friends at episode 1 season 1). I get why Gege killed Nanami, but Nobara? Heck no. I think Gege just loves to kill characters cus he wants to write new ones, and didn't want to have the burden to develop the current ones, so he just kills them, and it's sad that it is more apparent with the female cast. I hope, and I really hope she will come back one day like Gojo did in Hidden Inventory arc.
Nobara has really bad stats, but has great matchups against most people
I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again,no woman in this manga will ever get powerful moments or development(Unless she is an excuse to bring back Toji,Gege can make an exception for that). Shibuya Nobara was the first hint but I still kept hope that other female characters would get to shine,but the way Gege treated Yuki dried out every drop of hope I had. Now I expect all of them to be useless,which is just sad…but at least I’ll be surprised if they do anything half decent.

I actually think that her personality and way of doing things almost perfectly fits the themes of the story
HOWEVER (and I only thought of this just now) I think the reason why she was punished is because she needs to learn a lesson as to not always be sacrificing her own body to do things, and that she needs to find ways of winning without giving up parts of herself

Mahito is as fast as Yuji, while Nobara can't even hold a finger to that. In no world Nobara would be able to dodge that slap. She was even blindspotted.

Edit-> The brothers are special grade curses, they are curse wombs and were basically special grade objects that could not be destroyed until Mahito came in.
Low special grades equal a grade 1 sorcerer as shown and stated by Ijichi.
Edit again- Yuji has grade 1 level reinforcement, Megumi has a domain, and Nobara's curse technique is broken. You get struck by Nobara once and just die if you do not have rct.
She does not have main character plot armor. The writer accidentally made a character he doesnt care for cool

That would low-key be so disrespectful for the character though. Someone that prominent and important in Yuji's life should've gotten a proper funeral sequence, IF she's truly dead.
I’ve given up holding out for her. A lot of people are really still saying she could come back even tho it’s obvious she’s gone. Gege really handled it horribly imo and if she does comeback that’s just bs writing. To just sideline her for a majority of the series only to comeback near the end just sidestepping her development and screen time.

Even one of the medics wasn’t 100% sure on if she’s alive or dead but used their power to stop any possibility damage from happening (aka if she was alive there’s zero way for her to die, and should make a recovery)
But I mean yea- side lining one of the main three is a little ass and is only worse when we know the ending is coming close. Everyone is jumping Sukuna and Kenjaku is….something right now

Maybe I’m thinking too deep but I feel like nobara is the example of the average sorcerers life. They progress and get stronger and although they have more room to grow their starting point and speed of growth won’t keep up with someone who has a body engineered to be super human and a person who mentally holds themselves back while having a technique on gojos level. It’s wack she was used as the example but I think she was punished because despite doing everything right that was not her place. If she ran she’d still be alive. Growing via experience is the fastest way to grow but it’s also dangerous. Yuji and megumi get done in more drawn out ways because they have to. Sukuna’s plan required way more, she was never apart of any big plan.
Let’s hope that Nobara gets a second chance in life.🐱
You cant compare the female characte deaths to the male characters since 2 of them were on suicidal missions to begin with and the others were already half dead or dying the female characters just straight up got diffed for no real reason

Nobara is LITERALLY the only character death that isnt 100% confirmed if u think gege had todos friend use that weird cursed technique to slow down her death but stated that it didnt mean shed survive just for her to die anyway yr buggin, shes gonna be the first of the trio to learn reverse cursed technique due to one being one of the very few students to be able to hit a black flash, deepening her understanding of cursed energy and 2 due to the nature of her cursed technique and natural understanding of the soul, plus right bfr she dies to mahito she states she wants to remember that feeling and feel the core of cursed energy, similar to the babble gojo was speewing right after he brought himself back from the brink of death, not only that but in gojos death scene he revisits all the ppl who died bfr him in his jujutsu career even fuckin amanai but nobora his precious student was not present, and my last and final piece of nobara copium, we see in a room when everyone is waiting for angel to bust gojo out of the prison realm, that there is a big box right behind shoko that is nvr explained nor addressed but its sitting dead center of the room, im not sayin shes in there, but its jus strange that its there, with all these details in mind im certain that shes alive and just in recovery
Hmmm nah. She’s dead. She had an entire flashback. And when mahito hit her he stated that it took more than one touch to kill nanami so then he wanted to see about Nobara. And as we seen, her understanding of the soul was weaker then his. So I think she’s dead
@swixhayes3877 funny u mention that since he didn't actually kill her instantly like he hypothesized, nobara was alive when todo and his friend pulls up to keep her alive using his cursed technique, and specifies that her survival isn't 0 meaning there's a chance she could make it, we also kw that near death experiences deepen ones understanding of cursed energy which is how gojo learned reverse cursed technique in the first place, if nothing else gege has plans for her in the future, if he didn't he woulda just confirmed her dead the 3 times it was addressed

I'm not gonna lie, Nobara became one of my favorite characters after season 1, which surprised the heck outta me. Her fight with Yuji against the special grade curses was honestly THE moment I really saw the true potential for more technical fights in this series' power system.
To know now that it was her only true shining moment in the series, and her death wasn't even given the weught it deserves (not even a mention from Gojo), feels (ironically) like an _actual_ slap to the face. It has to be the worst mishandling of a character I've seen in Shonen in a very long time, which sucks because she was a refreshingly compelling female lead 😣

All of the female characters either die easily without accomplishing much or are super weak and have zero relevance. The only exception being Angel and sort of Maki, she’s being set up for greatness but really hasn’t done much at all. I guess Urame is pretty impressive but we don’t know if they are even male of female.

i got to be the one to put this out there she really didn't deserve that much better if at all because this is something that is constantly echo'd through out both yuji's and megumi's devolopment which is mindset matters and unless she was gonna be a shoko (not on the battle field much) than it was bound to happen while going up against special grades and that fact was during that fight against eso and kechizu even then we saw that she wasn't up to par with yuji as we him on a few occasions saving her and while normaly that wouldn't be an issue the only way she had improved going into jujutsu professionally was hitting a black flash(btw thats what causes them to gain a better understanding) other than that her efforts to grow were relatively little and to be honest getting stronger wasn't a main drive in her life like yuji and megumi so of course she would start to lag behind and with megumi getting a domain and improving the way he used his technique and yuji just in general honing down on the basics and both having a big will to get stronger and despite that they both almost died more than once during this. so to summarize she was weaker she had a bad mindset for a frontlines sorcer and was fighting a special grade
To me, Nobara is alive. When Gojo died, he was in a sort of lobby with all the deceased sorcerers that were somehow related to him, but there was not Nobara there, his student. SO that might have been a fat oversight from Gege or foreshadowing she's alive.

@@unanimouslyhated Not sold. Haibara was there and in the manga and anime he is portrayed as Nanami's best friend and didn't seem particulary close to Gojo. Hidden inventory characters you say...? Principal Yaga was there too and he had less than few panels in that arc. Besides EVERY sorcerer who has been confirmed dead was there, seems really arbitrary to leave Nobara out. Hence I say Gege forgot about her, or is foreshadowing she's alive.
@@gustavmetalI can’t really explain why someone like Haibara would be there but I still feel that them all being present during the Hidden Inv arc is relevant because that would explain why they are all represented as themselves of that time period. It would’ve been more impactful for Gojo to see Geto the age he was when he killed him. The fact Gege drew them as they looked in 2006 means that was the theme.
To be fair, Gojo didn't seem to care about his students. He didn't even mention them once in the afterlife.

In the anime she’s just stands there and doesn’t move or dodge when she’s killed it didn’t make any scenes to me
I do think she needed to do more agenst haruta but most of her other loses were not her direct weakness just bad luck sure its the authors choice to give her bad luck but each of these loses come after a bad ase moment sure yes she could and probably should have been treated better by the story especially by the standerds of importance of the other 2 leads but if her role was to be a shocking death she did it pretty well without feeling fridged but i do hope she comes back she has constantly been a shining hope for yuji and team up very well so even a small moment vs sukuna as just a reminder for yuji that he can still do it and not all is lost would be great

A big part of the issue with her death is how it did _nothing_ for the character, and cut off her story for the sake of making the lead breakdown momentarily.
In other words, she was killed unnaturally, for no other reason than pure shock factor and angst for the lead character. That's the textbook definition of fridging, isn't it?

Hobart kinda got the Sakura treatment, sclearly weaker than her teammates and not as important to the story. Which suck cause season 1 gave me hope that this show would treat its female character better then most shounen anime

The 2 actual main characters in the show Yuji and Megumi are most likely going to need to Surpass Gojo to beat Sukuna and end the series.
That means that Maki is basically guaranteed to be weaker than the men in the series by a considerable amount.

After reading this in the manga i was pretty floored. I thought she was a super cool character that had a lot of potential. The absence of any sort of a romance trope like there was in Naruto with Sakura or in MHA with Uruaka was a also a strong point for Nobora. However, her death came quick and unpredictable which makes it feel more authentic in a world like JJK which is riddled with brutality and uncertainty.

It is true that everybody suffers a horrible fate but I do think it's pretty unbalanced when most of the relevant female cast is killed off and now there's just Maki and Mei Mei (barely being relevant), while you have a much larger cast of male characters that are still relevant. I guess by shonen standards this is expected but idk it's somewhat disappointing given how the series presented itself earlier on.

Because Gege himself made it ambiguous by adding in a character saying that she may or may not live and then we just never got confimation on her fate, it's not like people randomly came up with the idea of her surviving out of thin air, it was literally written into the story as a possiblity. Also her face injury is hardly crazy to come back from, we've seen characters take way worse damage and survive

You saw what happened to Nanami when Mahito touched him right? His torso exploded, if something like that happened to Nobara then I would definitely believe she's a goner but just her face got affected and that I think was very little to count her as dead dead.
@just4universe219 Thank you, lol. Nanami was walking around with half his body charred and still fighting before Mahito found him. The others in his group were in even worse condition. There's plenty of reason to think Nobara could or should have come back.
