I'm always hearing reference to dreams and psychedelics. But I'd say Autism Spectrum Disorder would be a good path for QRI to look down if you're curious about the intersection of consciousness, the nervous system, and sensory experience.

🎯 Key points for quick navigation:
21:41 *✨ Exploring Subjective Consciousness Experiences*
    - Explanation of the subjectivity of psychedelic experiences and their phenomenological framing,
    - Discussion of multimodal experiences, including the perception of Golden Light and how various senses interweave during altered states,
    - Importance of clear and explicit background assumptions for enhancing phenomenological reports.
22:38 *🔬 Psychophysics Tool for Psychedelic Research*
    - Introduction to QRI's psychophysics tool for measuring visual effects of psychedelics like trails, strobe, and replay,
    - The tool quantifies subjective effects of altered states, offering empirical grounding for consciousness research,
    - Web app allows users to contribute to research by submitting data on subjective visual experiences.
    23:32 *🧠 QRI’s Research Retreats for Phenomenology*
    - QRI’s legal phenomenology retreats in Brazil and Canada focus on psychedelic research with substances like psilocybin and 5-MeO-DMT,
    - Retreats bring together experts from diverse fields (physics, mathematics, art, meditation, etc.) to model exotic states of consciousness,
    - QRI is betting on a think tank model, where collaborative, multi-disciplinary research yields deeper insights into altered states.
25:53 *🧪 Research Methodologies: Think Tank vs. Individual Exploration*
    - Discussion of three modes of consciousness research: third-person studies, individual deep exploration, and think tanks,
    - Critique of superficial third-person studies and the epistemic risks of individual exploration,
    - Think tank model allows researchers to venture into deep states while grounded by shared semantic references, preventing miscommunication of findings.
29:12 *🛠️ Research Setup and Focus at 5-MeO-DMT Retreat*
    - Description of the retreat setting in British Columbia and its importance for in-depth research on 5-MeO-DMT,
    - Flexible schedule allowed for extended studies on the effects of 5-MeO-DMT, with a focus on decompression and well-being during the retreat,
    - Detailed explanation of vaporization methods for 5-MeO-DMT and findings on dosage efficiency.
33:09 *🏞️ Immersive Group Experience and Research Dynamics*
    - The retreat involved both group and individual research activities, emphasizing the importance of group support and shared meditations,
    - Smaller, focused sessions emerged over time, targeting specific aims in altered state research,
    - The natural setting and retreat structure supported both rigorous research and personal well-being.
42:46 *👽 Alien Perspective on Psychedelic Experiences*
    - Hypothetical analogy of an alien species discovering visual experiences through drug use,
    - Challenges of communicating new sensory experiences without a shared conceptual framework,
    - Reflection on how profound discoveries can be overlooked without the right tools to explain them.
45:12 *🧠 Methods of Analyzing Psychedelic Experiences*
    - Description of various methods used during psychedelic retreats, including group and individual approaches,
    - Discussion on psychophysics and philosophical approaches to modeling altered states,
    - Emphasis on each researcher's skill set influencing their method of inquiry.
48:26 *🔍 Philosophical Approaches and Structural Descriptions*
    - Examination of the importance of structural descriptions in psychedelic research, irrespective of philosophical assumptions,
    - Argument that symmetry and patterns in experiences are invariant across different theories of consciousness,
    - Importance of ontologically agnostic descriptions for meaningful research.
51:12 *🎨 Structure, Content, and Artistic Representation*
    - Exploration of the relationship between structure and content in experiences, and how implicit labeling affects perception,
    - Discussion of the limits of structural analysis, with a comparison to how art and metaphor can better capture the complexity of experiences,
    - Reflection on the use of metaphorical language as a tool to convey the texture of experiences.

Which vaporizer is the efficient one you used? Also, do you have a special method to vaporize efficiently?
A related question: Any thoughts on insufflating the HCl form vs vaping? It is the only roa I have used and it seems to me superior to vaping. The experience is probably less challenging because the come up is slower. My intuition (though I am not an expert) is also that it is probably healthier, because the hot vapor damages the lung to some degree. The HCl does not consist of sharp crystals which would cut the mucous lining of the nose. It has the added advantage that it is more convenient, because you don't need a vaporizer and the HCl can, as far as I know, be stored for longer than the freebase. I don't understand why almost everybody seems to vape this substance instead of insufflating it.

Nifty! No question that 5meo is very unique & along with ordinary DMT are what you might call the most intense psychedelics but, IMO ketamine(*precise IM*) is by FAR the most interesting substance I'm aware of, especially when combined with shrooms, LSD or mescaline etc.. Though technically not exactly a psychedelic either. I'm also of the opinion that there is more(perhaps much) to be gained in the long term from "traditional muti-hour trips" than from just being briefly blasted directly into the 12th dimension(metaphor) by vaping DMT for instance. Though those are among some of my more memorable states. I would generally suggest starting with shrooms or LSD & then go from there. & though they're NOT for everyone, I might trade a random half of my psychedelic experiences for some hard cash but, I wouldn't trade them all for anything. & none of this pansy ass new fangled micro-dosing BS, heroic doses or bust. JK but frfr

I very much enjoyed this presentation. At 18:00 you mention compression of retained information from dreams and how when the senses are fed after you wake up the retention of the information from the dream gets compressed, it made me wonder how the setting you awaken to can be altered to allow for more wakeful processing of dreams and/or if that matters to anything at all. Like, if you sleep in a blacked out soundproofed room and have control over when you turn the lights on and to what intensity, of that allows you to better process your dreams. Prior to artificial light, everyone was allowed time for the sun to rise depending on when you awoke, unless you lived in a cave or something I guess. Just some thoughts.

Also, I resonated with the blind alien species analogy in your conclusion quite a bit. Coincidentally, or maybe not, I came across a reddit thread earlier tonight discussing psychedelic use amongst those who experience aphantasia. While not a direct comparison as far as the importance of research for the sake of research' sake, the thought of spontaneous visual perception from the 'minds eye' after a life without, I can't envision (wordplay) how that must feel. I also found it interesting that many of those who were regular contributors in the aphantasia threads said that they experienced open eye visual distortions, but did not have any open-eye hallucinations or any closed-eye visuals. To me that seems to make sense, that if you cannot imagine visually a psychedelic would not change your unconscious ability to do so, but I could be wrong.
