Dear Margreth, do not be afraid getting your stamps stained because they will still work perfectly. And your yellow ink will show up perfectly after your purple stained your stamps.. 😉 some ink colors (depends on the colors, red is mainly the "problem") simply "stay" but as long as you clean your stamp with water, stamping solution or alcohol or whatever your next color used will be fine and not mixed up. Concerning StazOn: I admit I had to get used to it. But it is the perfect ink for any smooth surface (acetat, porcelain, ceramics, foils....) My favorite WHITE ink pad is ( and I have given many brands a chance 😁) StazOn Pigment Snowflake from Tsukineko. It is the most opaque white ink pad I have ever experienced. If you want a 100 % white on your project you'll have to emboss using white embossing powder. But Snowflake is the runner up 🤗
Concerning the Distress Oxides: Black Soot is available. And fun fact: Distress Ink Picket Fence (White; I use it for distressing and it is showing up nicely on dark backgrounds) was actually the first Oxide although named an ink. Distress Oxides were invented in the aftermath of Picket Fence... thank you for your infotainment, just love it❣️

Instead of a separate folder with the dauber pads, I put the little Velcro dots UNDER the bottom of the actual stamp pad - then attach the separate dauber pad with the actual stamp pad. There is a “well” under there on the outside. I also have a dedicated dauber for my most used colors - some are with a wooden spool 🧵- I just put Velcro on one end.

I have had a bunch of Gina K inks (about 20) almost all of them bleed on whatever paper i was using. Did a lot of testing and ended up giving them away. My favorite for colored stamping is Lawn Fawn and Memento. My black favorite is Versafine regular, Clair seems to fade a bit over time but their pad is really nice, so i pressed the ink out of the pad and refilled it with regular versafine black: perfect for me. White ink: i have Lawn Fawn Yeti it is very similar to Hero Arts white, and it stamps on vellum also.

You need a dynamo machine(I think you havee) and clear label tape for it. The very Peri might be called after the periwinkle flower(Vinca vine) it certainly looks that colour to me. Fantastic video as always, love seeing all the inks. I've just had a week off and spent the whole week catching up with your videos I was behind a couple of months so have had it in the background while I sew and do house chores, bliss! Thank you so much

The artist from Ranger whose Archival Inks you talk about is Wendy Vecchi. She is an adorable lady who does great creations and her stamps and color sets are really good. Archival inks are the way to go if you are doing art journaling and you definitely need them too for cards. The good thing is that they do NOT react with water, they are waterproof so you can colour them later with watercolours or layer any other water based medium on top of them and they wont bleed. And there is nothing wrong with having your stamps tint with different colours of inks, they are for that, to be used and well loved and inks are going to tint your stamps, its just the normal use for them. But it wont hurt your stamps and the colour will not transfer to any other stamping. If it bothers you to have pink tinted stamps just tint your stamps with black the first time and then it wont tint with other colours. And yes, I use a blending brush for each color family but no way do I need one for each individual colour. Its so nice and easy to just have a set in a jar and have for all the colours.

Great video. Thanks for reviewing the new VersaFine Claire. Tim/Ranger Distress ink is a dye ink. The oxides are a hybrid that are a combo of dye and pigment inks. Both of those are water reactive. Ranger’s Archival ink is an oil based dye ink that’s permanent and waterproof. That ink should provide a crisper image. All of them work on porous surfaces. I believe (based on others accounts, not Tsukineko’s website), VersaFine Clair is also an oil based dye ink that’s permanent and waterproof. I love Archival and have used it for years when I wanted a very crisp image. But then I tried VersaFine Clair and I think it’s just as crisp if not crisper. The ink is a bit more sticky in my opinion. But I do still stamp with distress and oxide and just know in all of this, the paper you stamp on makes a difference. I find there’s more of a chance to get a clear image with VersaFine Clair. But Ranger makes a specialty stamping paper and you can get very crisp images using Archival on it. And Staz-on is a solvent ink that can be used on smooth/slick non-porous surfaces like plastic. Sorry for the lengthy comment 😬

      @sisfidy58 4 месяца назад +2

You covered everything that I was gonna say, and more clearly than I'd have been able to! DYE ink soaks into the paper, which is why it appears (well, it actually is) transparent. PIGMENT ink sits on top of the paper, so it appears to have "more coverage", but it's just that its opacity makes it so that you can't see through it. The DISTRESS OXIDES are a combination of dye AND pigment ink, so you get the opacity (of pigment) AND the blendability and reactivity to water (of dye). That's also why you can put Distress into Oxide, but NOT Oxide into Distress -- Oxide into regular Distress adds pigment's opacity into a transparent dye ink. Hope that's clear -- it was one of the MOST difficult concepts for me to master!!! Keep up the great work, Margareth!!

Staining Stamps: with me the archival ink stains got quickly so far up into my clear stamps that i could not properly see anymore where is was really stamping. It became a problem, the stamps turned weird mix of black and translucent parts. I never used them again after that and had to replace the stamp set.

Fabulous video, Margareth. I really appreciate your opinion on these inks as they can be very confusing to a beginner like me. I am stocking up slowly on the Tim Holtz rubber stamps that you recommend and I have purchased a few of the Versafine Clair colours that you use also. I am waiting for Blue Belle colour to arrive but I’m having trouble getting hold of strawberry. Want those for use with postal themed creations. You use these inks much more than I do so I am going with your recommendations. It was a lot of work for you but I so appreciate it. You help me a lot. Thank you. Love from England xx

I agree with other comments, I think Very Peri is Periwinkle, a very pretty lilac blue flower. I use VersaFine pigment ink for fine details in onyx Black as I can watercolour my stamped image. I believe the Gina K stamp pads have a blending agent added to them, so this may be why the stamped images bleed, as the ink continues to move about until it is dry, which is amazing for blending but no good for stamping crisp images. Thank you for the swatches and your honest opinions, my Amazon wish list has just grown by about another 10 ink pads 🤣😂. Thanks Margareth x

I like Versafine Claire Shady Lane for green. You are right, Stazon will stain your stamps if you do not clean them with Stazon cleaner, but it doesn't affect the use of the stamp. The ink will not come off after it dries.

Thank you! Love this! I think you might have just saved me a lot of money on wrong inks for my purposes!
Rusty Hinge oxide, for all its orange undertones, is my go-to for edges because it matches my favorite papers so well (Stamperia especially, but also nearly any brand of autumn-themed scrapbook paper). I finally found Vintage Photo ink and it isn't the color I expected; now I know why. I'll keep looking for the oxide.
Dried out ink pads often revive with a gentle spritz of water. Sometimes I get partially dried out pads from the store (still brand new!) and the water trick seems to revive them as well as it does my 12 year old ink pads. Now I store all my ink pads and my pens upside down to keep the ink at the surface.
Thank you so much for explaining about the different inks giving a different quality of stamping clarity. Didn't know I needed Versafine Clair, but my oldest blue and purple pads need replacing--they're crumbling! Didn't know that could happen--so I'll check out V.C. for detailed stamping. Thank you again!!

Thank you for showing us the new colors from Versafine Claire. I've been curious about them. Stamp manufacturers say to not use alcohol to clean your stamps. It will dry them out. If you must use alcohol, I would spray them with water right after. I personally use water to clean my stamps. No cleaners needed.

Very informative. Your ink collection resembles mine. I only have 2 Distress Oxides, Vintage Photo and Unchartered Mariner. It took me a long time to build my Mr TH ink collection so I was a bit miffed when he came out with the Oxides. I'm not going to re-buy all the colours!I have all the browns in the full pads. Most of my colours are mini pads that came as a set of 4 and I stick a velcro pad underneath that holds the blending pad. Perfect size. I have invested in a couple of Versafine Claire, influenced by your love of Fallen Leaves and Nocturne. I have a few of the Ranger Archival and Memento Dew Drops. Over the years I've learned that you need different inks if you like to colour stamped images with alcohol or watercolour pens. Then there's heat embossing! Stazon black is great for acetate and shiny papers. It's a costly hobby this papercrafting lark! I do love it though.😊 TFS❤

I made my own labels for my Distress inkpads by typing the names into a Word document spaced maybe 1/4 apart in all directions. . Then I printed them and just swiped the ink pad over them to that I had the name and the color. You should be able to do the same thing by spacing the names to fit on your labels and then swatching over them after printing. My favorite black is the Versafine - but not Versafine Clair, just the "regular" one. I buy my "blending" brushes at the dollar store makeup aisle. As far as I can tell, they are exactly the same. I don't even have one brush for each color family. I just clean them off on a paper towel and occasionally wash them. I've never had a problem with transferring colors. There are some very tiny ones for eyebrows that are excellent for getting into tiny spaces on stencils.

Thanks for this video - it was very interesting. Dye inks like Distress ink or the Gina K dye ink don't work well for stamping, unless you want to do a watercolour style image, so you spray water on the stamp once it is inked up and then stamp it. For stamping, pigment inks are much better - versafine clair, or oxides (but oxides are still not as clear as the versafine clair). Pigment inks also work better for embossing as they stay wetter a little longer. I love versafine clair and have the new colours on order and am really looking forward to getting them.

Thank you for doing this it was very helpful…. You can clean the archival inks off your stamps with your archival inks and it won’t stain them at least so far it hasn’t.

Margreth, I truly enjoyed your video. I like that you were not trying to "sell" anyone product over another, but simply stating how it worked for you. That way we get a true idea of how each color, each company, compares with each other. Thank you for taking the time to show us, not just the colors, but how you store them, and the different ways you apply the colors. I hope you get to have many wonderful crafty days with all your new colors. Blessings to you and yours.

The red you have called tulip is sometimes called poppy red, also. I enjoy having the two shades of red available.

I was disappointed with the versa fine Clair black at first. I didn’t think it did a good job. But i did buy a reinker because everyone raved about it. It did wonderful after i reinked it. I had just gotten a dried pad

Hi Margareth! I just got on the Versafine Clair, but I am having a hard time with it coming from Distress inks. While I totally agree that Distress inks aren’t good for crisp images… it is wayyyy to juicy. You just mentioned that they are really juicy when you first get them - does anyone have recommendations on how I can curb this? Are all the new Clair’s like this? They seem too juicy almost if that’s a real thing lol I’ve already tried just dabbing all over the stamp but idk if I’m just heavy handed or what but it still seems like it’s too much ink lol 😂

Hi, if your ink is still too juicy press the color down with a spoon. And don't "kiss" the stamp with your ink pad, just a light touch 😉 the pad surface is foam and not felt (like archival e.g.) 🙂

My tip is, don’t press your stamp into the inkpad but gently tap your stamps with the inkpad. That worked for me.

You could print the ink names on your stickers with a laser printer and then swipe the color on top of it or beside it

Thank you for showing the new Versafine Clair colours there are definitely some on my wish list now. I use Versafine Onyx Black which is especially good for detailed stamps and a dark/ true black but am also going to get Nocturnal to try 💕💕

Finally a Versafine swatch that illustrates the fine but very important differences in the respective color family. Especially the shades of brown. Is it greenish or more red, maybe yellow? Very well done. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 💜
