I am so proud of myself bringing the 4/5 Thunderbolt head all the way from West Shore Services to SC and it gets to go off for its first tornado warning!!
I can remember being a kid in rural Indiana (pre smartphone era) and sirens like this were the fastest way to communicate a Tornado was in the area. I can then remember moving to SC later and being surprised to find out no such system existed here. It’s cool to see the system you have in place, you never know who out there could be saved from something like this!
I only knew because of my weather radio and fire dispatch!. My phone didnt go off until after the sirens were done. My neighborhood loves it! One of our familly friends even baked me a cake and said she sits outside every saturday and listens to my siren tests which was awesome. The county EMA director even knows and is glad i have sirens in this area. The siren at my fire department did not work due to a faulty radio power supply. This siren was heard 6 miles away that night according to people close by.
It indeed took me some seconds before I realized you operate your own sirens. :-D Whenever my wife calls me crazy again, I'll show her your video :-D Well-done, really
I have always thought the most likely reason is because the mounts such as a steel or wooden post to hold up the speaker unit are extremely expensive to buy and install. Hobbyists I have seen typically just leave them on the ground. But I could be wrong. I would love to own a small one, these are extremely cool but way out of my price range. It sucks cause where I live the city retired a Whelen WPS-2800 or -2900 series siren and replaced it with a WPS-4000 series rotating siren. It would have been so cool to obtain it, but I have no space. Our city utilizes the Best Possible Protection Tone for all weather warnings, severe thunderstorm, or tornado warnings.
It’s when the sirens activate is when my adrenaline starts pumping all throughout my body. But I think at some point, that’s gonna come to me actually doing this one day. Really liked this video however though, my response time would’ve been quicker in the event of a real emergency.
yours might have been but this is still real quick in a matter of seconds after the alert finished. I relay alerts over ham radio so i couldnt just stop the relay.
quite honestly, this was the right way to respond. Cool, calm, and collected. There are way too many cringey videos of people who wait and pray for tornado warnings for the sole sake of being able to set off their sirens and scream a bunch.
@@Tigers9596 that’s true. For me I probably would’ve had a quicker response time, but if I owned a siren, there wouldn’t be any screaming or panic. Just super calm, but I also wouldn’t just wait to sound them off for warnings. I would much rather test them regularly with the county to make it works before something actually happens.
@@EastDetroitMusic-Sirens3000A whelen has been heard 3 or 4 and the thunderbolt has been heard 9 miles away. Confirmed by multiple friends and family and my grandad

@@SouthCarolinaSirens that’s awesome!
@@SouthCarolinaSirens crazy how much range those things can get even on the ground!
You know why that secondary siren is at ground level? It's to warn the people in the shed next to it.
Thats sweet! Hope everyone and everything is okay!
That's a pretty impressive personal siren activation settup, as well as the siren collection you got there
Did you keep the 2001 that was for a power plant or did the city take it?
Glad you're safe, we just got heavy rains down here.
Does the tornado warning affect all of South Carolina?
Nice video, do you have the thunderbolt radio controlled yet?
Nice video! Cool to see both the Vortex and the T-Bolt going off.

Wow! A Vortex and 4/5 'bolt sound good together. I also would've thought your 1003 would be back up by now.
Its down cause i need to get the panels fixed up and redo the paint.
I was notified when I heard that there was a TOR in Newberry.
Awesome catch!
Just wondering but why are the sirens on the ground aren't they supposed to be spread out and up in the air

This is awesome!❤
What? Two sirens on the ground? and not on top of a pole?
They can still be heard miles away like this.

6:06 THEN THERE WAS SILENTS
Damn you had it up fast.
Before the county did theirs. Plus the siren at the firehouse hasnt been working so this covers the area nicely.
