- The 31st edition of The THELMA Tapes podcast is a celebration of Edinburgh pubs, taking us on a massive pub crawl of wonderful stories from the 1930s to the 1950s. We pop in to The Old Chain Pier, The Beehive, Barney Battles, The Diggers, Bennet's Bar and many many more, and also discover the secret of Harry Lauder's shelf! Not to mention the black panther behind the bar at Fairleys...
Love Diggars.
I love these stories as certainly i remember these days well.Betty Moss certainly was a character. Many a "penny was spent" aiming down at the Forth ! I certainly remember the Black Panther at Fairleys (Shore) Not many people believe me. As for a Sunday, we used to frequent the Mansion house Hotel (faded elegance) or a hotel on Royal Terrace.Great memories and keep them coming.Wish more people were aware of this excellent channel.
Remember the Black Swan in Leith with Bobby the barman. Scotch pies with beans and black pepper on top, games of pool with Frank .. both of us stoned on hash. Anyone remember Gento ?
aye big hustler at pool but a good lad.
