I have just watched this podcast after seeing it in a list from Little Drops of Wonderful. I have an Ashford Traditional spinning wheel that I found in an OP shop about a month ago. It was missing a couple of bits so bought a maintenance kit from Ashford and currently teaching myself to spin. I live in the Manawatu, NZ.
Very good, you two. Sally from Little Drops gave you a shout out. I hope more pop on here to see you. I'm older, an obsessive knitter since lockdown, and desperately waiting for my e-spinner to arrive (tomorrow) to take my yarn journey further so I loved seeing that part of you creativity too. Looking forward to your May episode. Take care.
Popped over from Little Drops of Wonderful, and I'd clicked the ol' subscribe button before you even started talking about bothies - you must be my kind of people! 😄I moved across Australia last year to get to better knitting weather (Tassie is the closest I can get to Scotland, apparently, while also being the furthest away from Scotland).
I loved that you included your spinning in this podcast. I have a little peggy wheel with 1972 written on the bottem. I still have it as something I can't part with but I got to the point where my husband couldn't fix it anymore so I replaced it with a majacraft which I just love. Vannessa your grey fleece will make a lovely blanket. I originally wanted to learn to spin so that I could weave with the wool and that is what I do. I use a commercial yarn ( usually ashford or skeins southlander.) as a warp. I don't trust my home spun to be strong enough to tension it on my loom. Thanks Susan and Vannessa for a fabulous podcast. I can't wait for the May episode. Claire Lee
Hi Claire! I love that you are living our dream, weaving with your homespun! Yes, that’s a great idea about using commercial yarn as the warp. I think I will only ever use my homespun as the weft. Thanks for the comment! Happy crafting!!
Hi I'm Donna from Blind and Knitting. Morning fellow nz Podcaster, thought it might be a good idea for us all to connect. Plz feel free to leave this group if it's not for you or add to it if you know other nz Podcasters. I thought we could chat and get to know each other and maybe run kals, competitions and any knitting bits together. I got the idea as I was watching podcast and she had done a Xmas wool advent share with knitting traditions, Ruth loves to knit, Finnish knitter and few others. Would love to hear your thoughts. Regards Donna. Blind and Knitting
Hi Donna we are definitely keen to connect. We’ve tried to put our email address up but had some difficulty in this chat box. So I’ll pop it in our description box, flick us an email and we can go from there 😊
