With that outta way, now it's time to state that this is not a multilanding shuttle. With 305s isp, you'll get only one landing on Kerbin (or KSRSS Earth), while using NERVA engines, about 800isp + RAPIER you'd get max 2,5x landings on K-Earth.
Even small electric props are extremely powerful on Eve. Their maximum speed is low but they can get you out of the lower atmosphere Also if you stow them away in a cargo bay they don’t produce drag during the later ascent Might even be enough for vertical take off, not sure
Hi Vaos. I made an SSTO that fits inside of a MK2 bay using a box wing at the back and canards at the front. It flies really well and gets into orbit comfortably. I haven't tried landing full yet, but it lands really nice empty at a languid 60 m/s.
I think the landing gear can still work...but... . I would probably mean having more gear than you need, because it's so much force in such a small area. Probably have to double up on the rear ones, which means extra weight. Not sure how much that would affect its performance. . Also, a lot of the problem is that the craft was too high-centered. Maybe consider having the bottom airbrakes stowed instead of deployed for touchdown, and see if you can get them deeper into the body of the craft so it doesn't ride so high up. Your CoM is so high off the ground compared to the width of your wheelbase, that even a minor bump will knock it over and send it rolling. If you can, you might want to see about getting the CoM lower down...but I don't know that that is feasible, or that it would really work. Having the CoL above the CoM can make the craft a little more stable, and having the CoT above it makes the craft want to naturally nose-up. So it might be more trouble than it's worth.
Nice send-off lol. I don't t think you needed to remove the landing gear. I use to make small slender rocket planes that land vertical then flop over onto the wheels for traditional takeoff. I only ever used it on man and minus and also had to use a chute on kerbin. But think x15 body design. .
The problems to your stability at landing is your angled wings at the botom of the craft, I have a plane where the angled wing put a strange and heavy roll effect when I not perfectly horizontal to the ground. I think it can help to flat a litlle bit the wing but this craft is awesome
lol thats old. it had an upgrade ( watch linked video at 1:20 ) Before I ditched the design completely for an even smaller shuttle. 😎 ruclips.net/video/pEnH8qcgDt4/видео.htmlsi=T7rkmruHLjjtilmZ
I'm such a rebel. @vaos Sometimes when you play "Icon of Sin", I try to imagine what the musicians looked like while recording it. Pretty sure I'm not doing that right. The monstrous demons and flaming chrome skulls pounding on metal drums, gigantic electric guitars, and screaming minions... were actually props, animated by the muppets of Fraggle Rock and Labyrinth. Those little guys actually have quite the vocal range. Enjoy!
Yea I did my best to copy this design, and I've come to the conclusion that the craft is massively unstable in the roll aspect. Plus the lack of lift means it needs to land fast. I believe if these two issues could be fixed, it may be able to land on wheels. With extensive improvements (such as winglets that widen the craft too far to fit in the cargo bay) it can manage to land at the KSC, however nothing I can do will allow it to land on even the slightest incline/decline
I think the landing gear look great but you’d need some vtol rocket engines to control your landing. This might be a great craft that lands back at KSC.
@@vaos3712 impressive considering rapiers aren't exactly peak efficiency in closed cycle mode and you're carrying a bunch of useless liquid fuel tanks with you. If I had tried to build a craft like this I probably would have tried aerospikes or a vector engine, since you're probably not going to do much landing or getting off of kerbin and the only other body you'd have to worry about way laythe, and laythe doesn't take all that much dv to get into orbit.
@@lb2791 When landing in a breathable atmosphere, is when the ship is fully fueled. When landing on a Moon, you empty out the liquid fuel tanks naturally. This gives you a little over 1400 delta V.
How crazy is Tylo?! Kerbal tour guide: "This shuttle can land and take off from anywhere except Eve or Tylo. In a vacuum, it has over 1400 m/s delta-V." Kerbal kid: "How much more would it need to work on Tylo?" Kerbal tour guide: "Almost three and a half times as much." Kerbal kid: "Whoaaaa!"
hahaha 5:23 "I almost ate that!" It almost makes me glad I don't use a clouds mod. :D On the other hand, I love the sounds Waterfall is giving the RAPIERs; that real sweet roar! i tried this out. added tiny wings in each side for slightly better stability, but i kelly finding that it would blow up mid decent.. maybe i missed something i’m not sure. i also didn’t use parachutes so that could be contributing it but i managed to fully land the thing during just a normal flight.
@ it's very much possible to land on, but it has a pretty thick atmosphere, so you need a lot of heatshields and a TON of thrust as it has stronger gravity than kerbin
Really cool ship. Reinstalled this about a month or two back trying to get back in the swing of things for KSP2... How do you get the readouts left and right of the altimeter. Is this a mod or alt-F12 thingymajig.
That was hilarious. Landed the ship went out to celebrate and slipped all the way down with a face plant to top it off. That was great
WOWOWOWO Playing KSP for 5 years and didn't know about the fine-tuning caps-lock magic! Viva la VAOS!

5:20 Looks just like that shuttle landing scene from Alien: Covenant!
Digging the airbrakes bracketing the engines. I keep trying to do that on my craft, but I've never gotten a design with them to work well.
both of those ships are some of the coolest ksp designs i have ever seen
dude, that was super cool, especially the mothership, and the way that small shuttle came out of it and returned agine. Plz I wana see more.
Damn, both the warp ship and the shuttle are some of your finest design work thus far, at least visually.

Now that warping scene was dope.
Grandma's vacuum cleaner was really loud while recording that scene, sorry everyone!
I really like the design of the shuttle
Exactly what I needed right now! Thank you Vaos
The cinematic flutter of the B.R.A.K.E.s. Nice touch!
love the big fin on the bottom! keep up that design asthetic
There used to be a mod for angled landing gear. Would be so helpful here for the expanded wheelbase.

A box wing would be ideal for fitting into Mk3 cargo bays as Vaos wants. It could even be a triplane - I mean a double box wing. :)

Oohhoooo a new video, and the ship looks really good! Looks like the resistance transports from star wars
Love it a good bit of engineering and imagination
The glitch you're talking about is the switch from orbital speed to surface speed. The two numbers are different for some reason.
i think orbital speed is different with surface speed because orbital speed adds the planet rotation speed too
I didn't realize Waterfall replaced engine sounds too
The first landing was like a scene from star wars
Love the Freespace reference and noises. NEED MORE! Love love love it!
I'm 100% sure there is a version of this with foldable wings that makes the landing gear work. Only question is if you are willing to search for it.
