I don't know about that. The youtube official 3 Stooges channel has every Stooge short ever made and all the Stooge movies. It would be easy to spend the entire day there watching them!
Listening to your radio repairs brings back a strong sense of nostalgia. It was 1979 or 80 and I was about 12 living in Navy housing in Pearl City Hawaii. I got my first battery transistor radio from my dad off the Navy ship he was on. I remember being hunkered down in our quarters during a particularly bad storm with all the power out. I sat in my room and listened to that radio. I distinctly remember listening to "Rock With You" by Michael Jackson, "My Sharona" (The Knack), "When Your In Love With A Beautiful Woman" (Dr. Hook) and "Sailing" by Christopher Cross that night. I still have a picture of the dial in my mind. I was hunched under my blanket and I thought I was king. I know, I know....no one cares. Irrespective of that, this content really kicks nostalgia in the backside. FWIW, I was using the grey/brown monaural hard plastic ear phone that came with the radio.
Hi Shango, I have a one owner Ranger 700, my Father's. And yes, it is a DX beast. The selectivity is top drawer too. I remember listening to the AM band at night in the early 60s, the stations would just roll in. I run mine on 10 9 volt batteries and 6 AA cells. They give me about 8 hours of run time on the filament battery. Only mod was to install a 1N4007 and a 150 ohm resistor to sub for the tired selenium. I've never touched the alignment, still hot as a firecracker. Really enjoy your videos.
Shout out to 1530 am out of Sacramento. I live like 1500miles away in canada and that station comes in every night. They play coast to coast at night and no canadian stations do so im happy they exist! Great video shango!
A while back you mentioned an AM/FM radio kit from WeMake/Elenco. Well I bought one and just got started building it. I am having a blast and learning a lot. Thanks for mentioning it on your video.
I have a 50's Columbia console I inherited with a push pull output amp. But what really surprised me was the vented box cage the AM/FM radio came in. Looks like something used in the Mercury Space Mission capsules. 😅
Motorola was definitely top of the line for its day and blows away anything you could find today. I worked for a Motorola dealer during the "Works in the Drawer" TV days.
I can't imagine a more challenging resurrection than some of the desert sets you found abandoned laying bleaching in the sun and getting rained on for decades. I look forward to seeing this new one. And I for one never thought any of the videos were staged or the sets were props. It's obvious they are real if you watch the videos.
This is a great video! I like that old Motorola 700! I'm North of the border in Ontario within the groundwave coverage area of CFZM 740. Thanks for the amazing videos you've been posting on your RUclips channel!
I worked for Motorola back in 1978 at their Business Band FM radio plant. I know some of the higher power radios went out of the factory emitting loads of spurs across the spectrum when transmitting. Happens when you overdrive a cheaply made class C RF power amp.
Love your ability to bring back to life all these old classic devices. Also, loved more the Camel Lah Word Salad. I was rolling on the floor. God help us all.
I have an Emerson 569, same face as the 558 but with provisions for AC power with an external rectifier can that plugs into the wall. These things are dogs to work on, I lucked out with mine and was able to get it working on both power sources. Tiny battery compartment- used 12V garage door opener batteries for the B+. For the size it’s a decent performer. Better than most coat pocket ‘40s sets. Not a whole lot of volume on the weak stations, but it holds its own.

I know this is easy for me to say, but if you live streamed a video while you were making repairs or diagnosing, and had a moderator there reading out the comments while you worked on the device, it would be interesting to see what the viewers had to contribute.......maybe do this for a period of time only.... great video thanks for making it.
I remember in earlier days that rosin was smelling like that. I am not sure if (solder) rosin came then or now from trees, but I do know that some rosin smell that good, like the rosin that comes from the bud of the populus balsamefera (the balsam poplar), or some pine trees.

For the battery eliminator not a lot of power is required for the B+. An audio amplifier producing a sine wave connected to a step up transformer would not produce a lot of interference from harmonics. Something like a LM380 or maybe something stronger would be good. The filament could use a linear regulator. The way to prevent interference is to use sine wave power.
@@shango066 10k hours, and so far only a single tube replaced IIRC... nice! I expected the CRT to last 20-25k hours, but the horizontal and vertical output tubes, booster diode, HV rectifier and shunt regulator to last more than 10k hours is something I did not expect. It would be nice to see a visual examination of all the tubes, to see any discoloration of internal elements and metal deposit on their glass envelope, and the visual state of their getter. It would provide a useful aid to determine an approximate number of hours on used tubes. Also a CRT test and the test of at least the high power tubes would be great to see.
Excellent radio and excellent video! The Country station might have been 550 KUZZ from Bakersfield if AM makes it over mountains. I wonder if that radio would tie the Panasonic RF-2200 in the desert for sensitivity. I also understand that there is at least one Sony radio that is equal or even hotter than the Panasonic.
one way of getting 'noise' free 90v ish would be to use a capacitor multiplier string, a 'cockroft walton' multiplier, you'd need a x10 setup, will take about 20 small electrolytics and similar number or diodes! only problem is it'd only be suitable if the 90v and 9v or whatever LT is, has common negative, you wouldnt be able to isolate them and use it on a set with a bias resistor in series with HT negative
Every hippie should be carrying one of these around at the beach ⛱️. Sad 😔 that almost everything on the AM band has gone to talk shows. I remember the AM band broadcasting baseball games when I was a kid. That was about 1977. Your friend, Jeff.
I found an Emerson tv very similar to that one a little while ago in an abandoned building, It’s in rough shape but nothing compared to that one lmao l

You're correct. Ancient Rome would feed theirs troops lead as a sweetener.

Yes, and I read that the Romans would sweeten their wine with lead.
