hello before asking question make sure you did full research about what you are asking…
the thing is “kwati kaile khanxa”?? yes that girl was right.. we newari people eat kwati in kwati punhi(janai purnima)… we newari people call kwati punhi(janai purnima)..
and we newari people eat kwati in maghe sankrati aswell but the kwati we have in maghe sankrati is different from the kwati we have in janai purnima…in maghe sankrati we have a kwati of rice flour …..
so better research properly before asking question…..

To the question, “When do we eat Kwati?”and whoever put correct answer as “ Janai Purni”, just a food for thought. Every festival celebrated in Nepal has its own unique story, legend, significance and sometimes even a logical reason that has its relevance till date. Newari people eat "Kwati" on “Guni Punhi”. It is believed that Kwati helps regain nutrition after slogging in farm for rice plantation during rainy season. It is celebrated on full moon day before “Sa Paru“( literally translates as Gai Pratipada in Nepali, so translating Sa Paru to Gai Jatra makes sense here). But “Janai purni” and “Guni Puhni” are NOT SAME festival. Literal Newari translation of “Janai purni” is NOT “Guni Puhni” either. Just because both these festivals fall on the same day doesn’t mean they are same. Both are completely different festival with different religious significance and celebrated by different ethnicities. I’m not trying to put one festival over another here but what I mean is, at least associate the term Kwati’ to actual festival it comes from. Let’s reverse the question and let it be like, ‘”when to people change janai?” and someone answers “Rakshya bandhan”. Technically, it’s correct but sounds off right? I hope you get my point here. Youths nowadays talk about preserving our culture and going back to the roots and least effort we can out from our side is to associate these specific words to its actual festival.
I’ve seen people nowadays refer to "Guni punhi" as "Kwati Punhi", although I've never heard my grand parents or parents refer it as "kwati punhi". So, Lunibha’s answer can still be considered correct but "Janai purni" is NO way a correct answer to the question ‘ When do we eat Kwati?’
