During the Ancient times we didn't exist, the medieval period we were getting slapped around like a fish. By the 1700s onwards, so the time of the British empire, we ruled a quarter of the world and a fifth of its population. We were rich as hell and powerful to. So how in the eyes of a Brit, is it a 'negative' thing to happen to the United Kingdom?
