Only to fail to produce any profit from it whatsoever, as the Ethiopians weren't very cool with the whole war crimes commited.

Have you thought about instead of passing the same "liberal" laws every time you do a playthrough, you would actually roleplay more? E.g. if you do a Persia playthrough you would go for Theocracy, have religious school, National militia and so on? Instead of Laissez faire, public schools, intelligentsia in government yada yada...
