This channel is a hidden gem, I truly love just watching someone go to the store, buy fish, talk about the fish, clean it, and then cook it. Very swag.
If you like this style of video, you could check out the Japanese channels his style is based on like Kimagure Cook and Masaru. Their videos are subtitled.
I've been going through tough times, but these videos bring me peace! Love the way you're so knowledgeable and the way you treat the cat! I'm excited to see what new things I can learn from you, Mark!!!
Great looking food. I lived in Japan for eight years and fell in love with the food. I also fell in love with one of their women who has been my wife for 59 years now. Keep the videos coming please.
Hey Mark! I’m looking you forward to become famous! I can see you are learning some filming styles and cooking skills form certain Japanese YT channels, and you are a little bit struggle with some knife problems. So, I recommend you a Taiwanese channel calls “Making sashimi at home”, its video shows the complete process of cutting fish. I hope this can help you a lot.
Caught some Bonito on a charter one time. The captain used it as bait to catch a shark and then release it. When we disembarked I asked to keep the fish we didn’t use and he said it was a trash fish. I kept it anyway and the next day I bought some charcoal and some olive oil and salt and just cooked it on a grill at a park. It was absolutely delicious just with the salt and oil and it was more satisfying and healthier than any steak I’ve had. I love eating fish and it’s absolutely one of the healthiest meats on the planet.
Wow that sounds gooood! One time I caught a lady fish on a charter and the captain told me it was trash fish but I still wanted to keep it too! I've seen some vids of people eating them on youtube too. Someday I'd like to try one.
dude that fish market was so legit, im in north east SC and there aint nuthin like that place. one day tho ill try some fresh skipjack, cant wait lmao. great video!
Thanks! lol yeah they love it. Just have to be careful not to give them too much as canned tuna tends to be high in sodium and it can be too much for cats? (I read this the other day).
I'm telling ya'll, it ain't no Green Sunfish....but Bonita get a bad wrap from alot of people, it's not as bad as most people say it is. Prepared correctly, chefed up it's a very very edible fish!!!
They aren’t a skipjack but a similar cousin the bonito or false albacore is a lot more oily but I eat one at least once a year as sashimi. Skipjack are a different species entirely they have horizontal bars along their belly.
@@cheffingupwithmark5732 did you try chill the fillets in fridge before skinning helps a lot just peels of so nice with a knife don’t know why but it works
I could be wrong here, but this fish looks like sumagatsuo/yaito katsuo which is similar to katsuo but a different species. Suma is said to have higher quality, fattier meat than regular katsuo. Also tends to be rarer and more expensive :) the only time I’ve had this fish was at 69 Leonard St in NYC. Fun facts about other katsuo names in Japanese: hatsugatsuo, early season katsuo caught in the spring, prized for its lean taste. Modorigatsuo, katsuo caught in the fall which is returning from its migration north, fatty from eating all that good stuff. Mayoi katsuo, “lost” katsuo that’s caught out of season in the wintertime outside of its migration cycle. Hagatsuo, a different katsuo species altogether.
Yeah after doing some research it's a Sumagatsuo I'm pretty sure because of the pattern. In the comments people have been saying they call it a false albacore. it seems to be a mix between a mackerel and a tuna. it's dope how there is so many different types!
@@cheffingupwithmark5732 It is a Little Tunny/false albacore. It’s in the same family as tuna, but it’s definitely not a skipjack. It was called bonito too at the market you got it from, bonito is not a species of tuna but rather a family of different species.
Man! I just can't get enough of your videos. Too bad my daughter has a girlfriend. Lol. Thank you for all of your videos. Entertaining and informative. Hey you never said. Did you save the head of the Skipjack to eat later?
I need to see if I can find a fish market like this in Florida. So far all I got is local catches but nothing where I can get fish like the silvercarp, amberjack or skipjack
Enjoyed the video and I’m glad you enjoyed the fish. Just one thing I think that was a Bonita not a bonito Bonita have a much larger bloodline and Bonita have different markings. Great video though.
Dude, it all works, the shopping, the cooking, the humor, the cat! Wishing you much success.
