I could just sit down and listen to Gareth talk for hours. What an articulate person with bundles of talent.

The three of these folks really gave the game such a unique atmosphere. Roddy's music is so fantastic and emotional, Singelin's art style is so deep and filled with detail for your eye to rest on. And the razor-sharp resource management in the early game really sinks you deep into the experience from the get-go.

Definitely. When I replayed the game a 2nd or 3rd time, it's almost a breeze doing the start over again. It's good because it makes the game feel less repetitive. I remember on my first play through how many stupid mistakes I made with regards to keeping my dice full. Taking on way too many quests at the same time. Etc...

I absolutely adored playing this game, the characters were so incredibly written and the story was thrilling but also heart-breaking at the same time (especially the story line with Lem & Mina) the characters in Erlin's Eye have stayed with me ever since I've played it, I have that lingering feeling after experiencing something so profound, I don't want to let it go just yet.

Incredible game, one of my favourites. The gameplay is so smooth and the writing is so meaningful. The DLCs got me so hyped for the sequel!

One of the best Sci-fi stories, so beautifully told. A delight to interact with, and a delight of presentation! Minimum Viable Design... Now I see why I related so hard to his sensibilities on the "system" that builds on The Eye, without spoiling much. But you can tell he understands what precarity is, and without knowing, I was simply playing one of the best explorations of what living in poverty actually feels like. Interesting to see that same survival instinct turning into something like Minimum V D and build videogames. I Had no idea it was people only and before the game the only one I knew was Amos Roddy from In Other Waters. Beautiful exploration/use of simplicity.

Wow, this just hit my radar, will play. Void Bastards is indeed an inspiring design. Allowing a small and highly creative team to realize a fully engaging world and satisfying gameplay loop without needing to subject 400 people to 7 years of work. I like these kinds of unique and thoughtful solutions, as you might see in Inkle games as well (Inkle’s take on structure blows my mind). Seems like British games have been doing this really well in the last decade.

10:03 "every time we get a new hobby and go 'can I monetise this?'". This got me good.

The game is nice, kinda.. But it's criticque of capitalism is so tame and... toothless? For a whole game you, stranded person in a lawless society never robbed, never left without payment after job, even largest gang on the station acts more like police than gang.. even getting "protection money" for Yatagan feels monotonous and orderly, instead of tense (you are extorting money for mob boss and noone is angry or scared or begins to hate you for siding with a mob which should be controlling, taxing and oppressing people). For me this game is like good idea and style but completely lackluster worldbuilding and insufficient personality are making it childish

That's an interesting point. There was an RPG set on a prison planet where basically every quest giver would try to screw you in some way or another

Honestly, I think that depends. I dont think any medium in this genre should always be so harsh or aggressive. Present those themes sure but there are different ways to go about presenting them without being straight up in your face about it. The game (to me personally) is about survival AND community. The game can already feel kinda hopeless even with these npcs so imagine without. Just paying that hundred or so cryo everytime i needed a fix was robbery enough 😅 also, yes the yatagan feel like police more than a gang but if im not wrong, thats how older gangs started? As a way to protect the community and do what cops or the govenrment wouldnt, but then money and drugs got involved and ...ya. as for always getting paid i just straight up believe that the npcs that give you work, really truly need you and maybe at one point they thought of double crossing you but after seeing how well everything became after you started workin, they probably feel like they need you even more and so they continue to pay you. Alot of the npcs on the station i believe arent even from the eye. Maybe have lived there for a while but they all know the struggle, at one point they got to the eye and faced similar hardships to you. Had to use every connection, chased down loose ends etc just to be where they are when you meet them. They had to carve out their living little by little just like the sleeper.
