Petrol Titanium - had mine since 2010 and it is as great now, 92000 miles later, as it was when I first got it. I've taken it across Europe several times and still use it to commute 30 miles every day. It is a beautiful machine. And it is bomb proof.
Actually I don't regret it one bit. It was an A4 though, and it was 2.5 years old. The BMW was four years old when I sold it and bought the brand new Audi. Both of them were nice cars, but way too expansive - not only the purchase price, but particularly the service (and I'm from germany where both are comparativley low). The Mondeo offers SUPERB value for money, and I've been driving it for over a year now without experiencing any problems.
I have owned mondeos since 2008 had a r reg mk2 as my first and a mk3 1.8 petrol had afew diesels including the st tdci and a 2.5 v6 zetec s , I had a mk3 for 5 years and it was the best car I ever had it sadly died at 234k had it from 70k other than the known issues was great, however I moved onto the mk4 last year, 2.0 tdci, absolutely great car plenty of power, economical spacious, had a edge then moved onto a ghia model, but unfortunately previous owner didn't look after it, due to the ulez announcement I went ahead and bought a 2.0 petrol version, and i can honestly say it's the best car I've ever owned and I've owned many cars of its rivals, it is on the thirsty side but its effortless its reliable and it gets me wherever I need to go, I could count on it to get me everywhere its been looked after all its life and I've replaced everything its needed, top mark to ford from me, I'm thinking of the mk5 but the ecoboost engine I don't like from the stories, I might just get the 2.5t :)
Incredible you are happy moving from A4/BMW to Mondeo. Owned a Mondeo for 10 year, got a chance to drive A3 and BMW 3 series for 6 months. Now changed to BMW 3; never looked back.
I drove BMW 320d’s of the same era for work and they were quicker but that was it everything else was just awful and definitely not worth the price tag they were asking for it. The soft suspension models were all over the place and the harder models rattle your teeth out. The non sport Mondeo had great handling and was so supple and the sports model even with 18s was way more comfortable than the BM. The Mondeo was a bloody bargain and what the 140 tdci lack in top end it always felt like it had more grunt than the BMW. Probably a combination of their transient overboost and gear ratios. Audi make interiors and party piece engines not cars. I’d take a Mondeo straight on track but I’d want a fair bit of tweaking before the BMWs short of the M cars would be as enjoyable on track.
I had the "old" model (2002) and two weeks ago I bought the new one (145bhp petrol engine, estate version) - the difference is enormous, I just love that thing...
They are bringing out a completely new shape Mondeo. I saw an impression in a well known UK motoring magazine the other day. It will be more in a Coupe shape. In blue it looked beautiful. So we have something to look forward to !!!!
Nice review, he forgot to say "GRAZIE" and mention the help given by Ghia of Turin, Italy (Ford Subsidiary) who provided the ooo's and ahhh's of the quality interior & handsome exterior design. Yes the same design house that gave you the most beautiful VW of all time. The taut chassis was provided by Volvo (Ford Subsidiary at the time). Just wish the Anglo Saxons would give credit to the others in Europe and USA that helps give them a quality product but they just cannot stand it.
I have a 2009 XR-5 Turbo (I'm not sure if they're called this in other countries besides Australia, but it's basically a sports trim of the Titanium), bought second hand a few years ago. I'm still amazed at the features it has, even compared to current cars...must have been ahead of its time when it first came out. Great car!
They sadly didn't give the Titanium X Sport the "ST" moniker which other sporty Fords in the UK got. The last Mondeo ST was the STTDCI in diesel form and the ST220 in petrol form, both MK3 Mondeos. The MK4 TXS didn't get the name but I would have preferred the XR5 moniker. The XR range has appeal in the UK too from the old Fiesta, Sierra and Escort models.
@@TheChiraagG Thanks mate. Update: I've since sold the Mondeo as it was getting too expensive to run - lousy fuel consumption and dearer registration than a four cylinder. I bought a 2013 Audi A4 - nice (but with half the features!), but I still miss the Mondeo!
@@ecurb10 yeah I mean if fuel consumption wasn't an issue and I was in Aus I'd just go Falcon FPV GT-P. But yeah the Audi TFsi fare better in that regard. I find the Mondeo has a good drive for the size of car, especially on British roads. Actually Aus has some fun twisty roads too
i have just bought a 2ltr tdci hatch o8,just fell in love with it,much better than the avensis by far (i was a die hard toyota fan) until i took this one for a test drive.Amazing car !
I had an Opel Vectra and rented a Ford Mondeo while it was being serviced. I loved the Mondeo so much I replaced the Vectra with one. While my Mondeo was being serviced last week I rented a brand new Volkswagen Passat with Bluemotion Technology. Now I'm looking for a Passat to replace the Mondeo. I much prefer the exterior of the Mondeo than the Passat but the Passat has a better interior and better features.
changing from a BMW 3 Series Coupe to a Mondeo Estate in a couple of weeks. It genuinely feels as good as the BMW, and even thought I'm getting the Zetec, it has everything on it that the 3 Series does
Lol, misfueling. Not enough car enthusiasts in the UK I think, we know what petrol our car takes in Australia. :P Anyway, car just arrived in Aus and it already seems to be a hit here too. Great car I think.
@flyerholland Rental cars cover up to 30,000 miles before they are stuck off as deletes. Delete means they have been sold to someone and are due to go on. Fords usually start to rattle inside after about 2,500 miles, I always found them to rattle after this amount of milage. The build quality on Fords and GM is crap though. The top half tends to be ok, but they flex and creak around like soft butter around the handbrake area.
My subjective opinion: I've bought this car... (BTW it was really great jump from my old Mondeo to this sugar) and I wanna see you when you sit into this, especially your stunned faces. The focus RS with it's trick differential to prevent torque steer and this mondeo's suspension system that pitches the car forward are pretty odd. Why don't they just give it rear wheel drive to make it the best handling saloon car in the world?
I would say it's better than a 5 series. Even if it was the same price! The interior of BMW's is mostly boring cheap plastic, but people only think they're better than brands like Ford because of their brand image.
@fentonjd The Insignia is a big sucess and it looks very beautiful. There is far more room on the back seat of the Mondeo. Three big people can sit comfortably in the back of the Mondeo. Well if you take the M3 its a different story, different pricetag too. Only car I see out of mondeos leauge is the AUDI A4, simply because rust aint an issue, making the car cheaper come resell time.
I agree with you 100% And to even know that piece of recycled plastic crap is Fords flagship in europe makes me sick! Come on, 225hp 5-cylinder volvo engine for a top flagship model? The mondeo's competitor, audi A4 have a their top model as the RS4 with a 4.2 liter V8 engine screaming out 420hp! Brilliant car!!! Had to chose between Insignia and this... and no question , it's Ford! Awesome handling, 52Mpg easy with the 2liter TDCI, great look and huge boot! :)
Yeah I know what you mean. If I get like a bmw or audi I feel like I need to do some corporate raiding or need to get myself an important buisness meeting I have to attend.
Any people with some clue will always get a german made car instead of any ford, look at the new Audi A4 that's just released now, it will spank the mondeo in any way possibble, and then some more
10 years ago- US car designers didn't even know what independent suspension was- even now they use live rear axels and cart springs in what are supposed to be performance cars- come on even cheap korean cars have modern chassis- no wonder ford are going under and gm (which includes about 10 brands) have been thrashed by toyota. people arn't stupid- they wont quality, cutting edge design and fuel economy- none of which is offered by any US manufacturer.
@mondeoman1993 The BMW 3/5 is over priced but it has a high quality. The statistics show it. Well, I drive a Mondeo 2.0 TDCI and I am really happy with this car, which is half the price of a BMW.
In terms of space, the Superb is MARGINALLY larger. I love how you hate the Mondeo so much but can't help seeing all of the videos and following me around, getting all shitty at me. ;) I know deep down, you love this car but can't bring yourself to say you do, because it has a Ford badge on it.
Trouble is with Monds is they are nice to drive/look at/ be in but they lack cabin quality, I work for enterprise & drive these a lot, I wouldn't like to own one. Things like doors seals, trims, linings always peel away or fall off on the outside & the inside does develop annoying rattles. Buy German if you have the money don't down-step from German to Ford now I can see why.
@cattleman6420012000 To me Insignias are a bit of a let-down over the big press hype, I find the ride is unpleasantly firm & crashy, the clutches are often violent & snappy especially 2.0 CDTi's which are easy to stall. They are absolutely loaded with equipment especially Elites but its completely opposite to a big-comfortable car
Twin exhaust and sports body kit won't change that boring unimaginative rear light! The Mondeo dosen't achieve the head turns when it's on a street(never did)! On the other hand the Insignia is a far more attractive car! Maybe it's not as good as a Mondeo but it's prettier!
@1ns4ne1d10t Repair it! I don't know how you drive the car, that such things happen.;o) The parts in my Mondeo don't fall off. I drive a 07 model. Sure it isn't an AUDI, BMW or Mercedes. But it also doesn't cost that amount of money. The only thing i would describe as a problem is a sound that comes from the pillar between or behind the doors. But for that exists a technical service information and Ford does fix that. I'm very happy with that car, especially with the 2.5l Turbo engine&220hp. :o)
@flyerholland "No way I worked for a rental company" Unfortunately I did. I worked for Enterprise rent-a-car, I have fully checkable work references to this employer and an employee No with a RALPH update code, ex-colleagues of mine would be able to confirm what my role was, and I have it all on my Jobcentre records and my official P45 tax records too. I can't lie about it because I once had video's on here of the rental cars and I have subscribers who have seen the vids. :-P
The Mondeo called to me and I obeyed. Ok money has alot to do with it and yes I know this was published in 2007 but I DONT CARE! and wooo you get a lot of Mond for the money. I have a 2010 Mondeo Zetec 2.0 and Like and arranged marriage she has grown on me and I respect her.If I get an Echo chip on her I will love her even more and when people are talking about " oh blabs car does this and does that" I can say so does mine! and I paid sweet FA for it.
@Nakke144 I'm not a Ford hater, if they built decent cars then the story would be different. Perhaps Ford should sit up and take notice of my comments. If they do this then their cars might improve but I'm trying to do everyone a favour here. Do you want them to be improved or do you want them to stay abysmally awful.
Well, ford is notorious for their design and styling and quality, especially in the 80's and 90's Also the new mondeo's wheels are way too small to match the body. It's a fiasco
Who’s here after this week’ Smith and Sniff?

They are absolutely loaded with equipment especially Elites but its completely opposite to a big-comfortable car
Best Car in his Class.
BMW 3er,A4,C-Class are more expensive.
Twin exhaust and sports body kit won't change that boring unimaginative rear light! The Mondeo dosen't achieve the head turns when it's on a street(never did)! On the other hand the Insignia is a far more attractive car! Maybe it's not as good as a Mondeo but it's prettier!
Probably an either/or thing though. If you keep putting it to 60 two seconds faster than a Mondeo can then you won't be getting 7mpg better out of it!
Great!!!
Then need this in North America.. hell even everything the car offers in a Fusion.
The USA version was the Ford Five Hundred executive sedan and the Ford Freestyle crossover station wagon/SUV.
@1ns4ne1d10t
Repair it!
I don't know how you drive the car, that such things happen.;o)
The parts in my Mondeo don't fall off.
He said chasing down BMW, not a 3 series, besides, the Mondeo competes with the five series.
jaffacake1578 it cant chase a prem car down because its none itself. it battles the cheap ones the french shite mobiles skoda opel and vw.
@1ns4ne1d10t which spec is your mondeo then? oh, and is it an 07 or 08 model?
@flyerholland "No way I worked for a rental company" Unfortunately I did. I worked for Enterprise rent-a-car, I have fully checkable work references to this employer and an employee No with a RALPH update code, ex-colleagues of mine would be able to confirm what my role was, and I have it all on my Jobcentre records and my official P45 tax records too. I can't lie about it because I once had video's on here of the rental cars and I have subscribers who have seen the vids. :-P
That new one will propably get rust as easily as the old one.
The Mondeo beat the 5 Series and Audi A4 to car of the year 2012... again... doesn't that say something about a car design dating back to 2006-07?
what a car
The Mondeo called to me and I obeyed. Ok money has alot to do with it and yes I know this was published in 2007 but I DONT CARE! and wooo you get a lot of Mond for the money. I have a 2010 Mondeo Zetec 2.0 and Like and arranged marriage she has grown on me and I respect her.If I get an Echo chip on her I will love her even more and when people are talking about " oh blabs car does this and does that" I can say so does mine! and I paid sweet FA for it.
not just chasing, actually overtaking it is more likely. mondeo produced from 2000. beat bmw 3 series '98. onwards on the top gear track.
as a side note, i have renamed "Ford" to "Fraud" as i find that a more fitting name
Ford FUSION Sounds Familyar ??
crap, ignore my last post, didnt really read your post before jerking my knee. Im the 'idiota' in this particular case :D
want one want one want one...lol oooo actually i want the SVT (US) version or ST ?!?!?!! gimme gimme
Well, ford is notorious for their design and styling and quality, especially in the 80's and 90's Also the new mondeo's wheels are way too small to match the body. It's a fiasco
@ipbalkenende what japanese? mazda isn't ugly
thats exactly what it supposed to be isnt it?
