i was staring at the dog waiting for it to move. Then i looked at Steve and realized it's a still picture. 🤣🤣🤣

Well, one thing's for sure.....
Steve is an excellent ventriloquist.
Not to mention his dog is very well trained-- namely trained to sit perfectly still.
He made my favourite Pixies album and my favourite PJ Harvey album.The sound of Surfer Rosa is just awesome. Legend.
Totally agree, by far their best album.

I recall at the time Albini was quite a bit more hostile about Pixies. He called them "bland college rock" at one time.
He's definitely mellowed with age. I heard an interview where he was even being extremely complimentary to Kurt Cobain and how innovative he was. I had to do a double-take.
He said that in 1991 in an article or interview but later, as It is written in "Fool The World" bio of the Pixies, he apologized for those remarks saying that he didn't hold the band reputation as high as he should.
@@Brokenface Probably because he's admitted that his business temporarily dropped off after he made those remarks. No band wants to work with a producer/engineer who's going to trash them afterwards.

@@windydragon6522 "now" is irrelevant. Pixies THEN is quite a bit more profound. Pixies along with Sonic Youth were absolute watershed American bands. They ushered in that late 80s early 90s "alt" explosion of bands. Who cares if they are "bland" now? Have you heard those recent Stooges albums? Their current incarnation is quite bland compared to their first records that changed the face of rock music forever. Sorry, it can't still be 1969 fifty+ years later. Even Miles Davis' final albums were fairly mediocre.

Albini is a really smart and nice guy. And also a genius. Big Black was one of the best trios ever
The sound bytes were funny and enhanced the humor of the album. My issue is that the "all broke hearts" section in I'm Amazed was cut

Rumor back in the day was that PJ Harvey hired him because she thought he recorded Spiderland.
i did ask him about the rumor that PJ only ate potatoes while making that record. while he could not confirm, he said he would not be surprised if that were in fact the case.

@@zippymufo9765 Okay, but that doesn't negate the fact that she thought Steve recorded Spiderland. She probably never heard of Brian Paulson.
But isn’t that exactly what bands expect of a producer, otherwise they would just produce the record themselves. And by the way, those snippets between the songs are great and really add something I and everyone I know who likes the Pixies, think.

Surfa Rosa certainly sounds better than Doolittle.
Opinion is divided. I've heard music people say Doolittle is much better produced. I'm no expert.
I prefer Doolittle, but I really love Surfer Rosa as well.

The underlying assumption is that producers don't add value to record is blatantly false. Surfer Rosa being indeed a great illustration they do. This change in mood is more something Steve may want to discuss with his therapist than fixing an actual issue there.

Anyone who has kids who might be listening to this... Play if for your them so they can hear what self doubt and insecurity sounds like.
It's not about that at all. It's about learning from your mistakes and being brave to accept, learn, move on and be better from the experience. There's nothing insecure about Albini. He was brave as fuck.
Surfer Rosa is the best album he worked on. In Utero is grossly overrated and if not for his PRODUCTION, it would be nothing more than a footnote as Nirvana's final album.
I agree wholeheartedly. I always feel people trying to be high brow hipster doofuses when saying it’s better than Nevermind.
When In Utero came out it wasn't for me, fast forward 30 years and a mate gave me Steve Albini's mix and then I got it. Songs are unbelievable 🫠
