    Dave I wouldn’t worry about what other people think. Keep doing what you’ve been doing. I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning and I’ve enjoyed them all. Thank you. On a side note you should bring back some of your videos from The past. A lot of us would love to see them. Again thanks for all the videos.

    Here’s you a really funny squirrel hunting story. My entire life my grandfather told me when he was young they “barked” squirrels cause they were poor and couldn’t afford ammo or small caliber rifles. Basically you don’t shoot the squirrel you shoot the branch the squirrel is on and bonk him on the head with the butt of the rifle when he hits the ground. Grandpa was a WW2 vet golden gloves boxer and a bit intimidating. I listened to that story for about 30 years until one day I got brave and said “grandpa I think that story is BS and you are full of crap” he looked at me serious for a sec and said: “damn boy I was beginning to think you were stupid. I’ve been telling you that lie for 30 years now” 😂 😂 😂

    • @robertlogan9682
      @robertlogan9682 3 года назад +10

      Barking a squirrel comes from the days of the muzzle loaders where you had a .45 or .50 cal and you didn't want to blow the animal into small pieces. You'd shoot just below it and the bark would hit the squirrel killing it.

    I remember watching you Dave many years ago after turning off most wilderness survival shows. Within 10 minutes I said " finally, a man that is realistic, tough and a wealth of knowledge. I grew up in the woods, had no training and fell flat on my face many times. The skills you teach are vital and your demeanor makes people want to learn. Keep it up man, the world needs more men, ( teachers ) like you!.

    I'm glad you have the interest and gumption to do these videos Dave, because for me, it brings back fond memories of the times I did pretty much the same things....first time I went camping was with my Dad, we hiked 7 miles into Fish Lake, (He carried me, my little pack, and His the last mile). I did make it all the way out, going out it was mostly downhill.....I was hooked, and have been camping ever since, until my Wife of 58 years was invalided by several strokes.....She needs care, and I'm it. I can still get out for a couple three hours periodically, and Treasure every outing. it's not the same without Her there to see and enjoy with me tho.....when you can GO ! don't wait GO ! ...and keep going Dave...We'll stay with ya Brother, and THANKYOU !..........OnWard.........

Like many of us what we carried 15 years ago might not be exactly what we carry today and there's nothing wrong with that. I believe it was Mohamed Ali who said "A man who thinks the same way at 60 as he did in his 20's has not learned much" or something like that Lol. Cheers from Canada !

    Been watching since I was a kid back in 2012. I love the evolution of gear and the priority on weight. Packing cheap gear that’s super heavy is not as appealing to me now as it was before. Mobility and ease take priority. Would love to see a gear comparison over the years to really emphasize the advancements you’ve made to your kit. Keep up the new content, we love it!

    Been watching you from the beginning and you have taught me a lot. Never feel bad about owning nice/expensive things. Those things are the reward for all the hard work and countless hours grinding it out. I constantly hear “it must be nice”to own that truck, camper, etc in a sarcastic tone. I always tell those people nothing is stopping them from working extra shifts or having two jobs, or living within their means in order to save money. Be proud of what you have accomplished!

    You are the first of my subscription videos I always watch before the rest. I've enjoyed them over the years. The first one was you making Mountain Man Breakfast with Rufus. I miss that video, it was a good one. Keep up the great work

    Nice camp, Dave. I like your meal philosophy (bring some, forage some). God bless.

    Good stuff Dave. I was in the heavy carry crew a while ago but finances allowed be to build a lighter kit over time, game changer!

    Man you are an inspiration from the time I first watched you on here and the time I hung out with you in texas. You earned every single bit of greatness you have achieved, and the envy of others just shows toy did something right.

    My late grandmother used to make gravy and biscuits that she added the squirrel that my grandpa, father and myself hunted. That was some good eating and this video reminded me of it. Keep up the great work Dave.

    I am a long time subscriber and learner from your channel, and I wasn't into the ultra light weight modern equipment. That is until last year (I think) when you put the Nesmuk mentality into the equation. Then it all clicked for me. As you grow I (we) grow, so I say thank you Dave!

    Yeah bro Squirrel hunting was the first hunting I done as a kid. That was 22 years ago, it never gets old. I plan on taking my boys this year. Never stop teaching America to get back to the basics! Meeting you at the knife works in Pigeon Forge was one of the highlights of my trip last Thursday!
