I used to be poor. I lived in the ghetto. Poverty is more often born out of an inability to manage money. Lots of my neighbors wasted paychecks on luxury items like nice cars, drugs, booze and smokes and had nothing left over for groceries and rent. Some of them qualified for Section 8 housing with $200 monthly rents and they were STILL being evicted. There are exceptions to the rule of course, but having 5 kids, no money management skills and impulsive buying habits are a big reason why people are poor. No racism, just truth.
See it all the time with friends. Never have money. Work all week and broke. Some have nice cars some do not but most of them don’t even pay rent and still broke. Although some people operate financially in the way you've named, you're generalizing the issue and implying all people operate in this fashion which is certainly not true. There are many reasons people are poor that for most part is no fault of their own. For instance, lack of opportunities, lack of adequate jobs, low paying jobs in which they referenced as the working poor, and lack of education are but a few top reasons people are poor.

I work in retail/grocery 50+ hours a week (and balance college) so im constantly exposed to these specific types of bums abusing the system. There are exceptions. I met a young black woman with a child that was on welfare and she was going to college and working. Admirable. I understand why this has so many likes. Ted is presenting his point in a very logical manner. But in many other instances he has portrayed this argument very "all encompassing" as the host said. He still has much to learn about compassion and humanity.

There are exceptions. I met a young black woman with a child that was on welfare and she was going to college and working. Admirable. On the other end of the scale was a rapper in NYC that pulled up to the welfare office in his LIMOUSINE and got his check. He was actually trying to prove a point...he was saying the system was corrupt and needed to be audited and he was correct. I recall a time when you got flour, sugar and government cheese and now you can actually buy prepared food with food stamps. It has gotten out of control.

A lot of people (in most cases people that have to support a family) who are employed have to be on welfare because the minimum wage is so low.
